Coronavirus: Football Discussion Thread

Can you imagine Leeds United fans right now. They have struggled for years to get back to the PL and just when it is about to happen along comes COVID19.

Just one Club who will be fighting for all their worth to continue the season at some stage or at least be guaranteed promotion.

However there are far too many Clubs who will not want the current tables declared as final due to all the financial ramifications.

One great big bloody mess, thank you God for the Carabao Cup and Charity Shield.

The problem is that apparently the PL don’t have any rules covering this situation. There’s absolutely nothing that says the season should be voided in these circumstances. So that option is just as likely to result in court action as any other.

Well i suppose the old D1 didn't have any rules between 1914-18 & then between 1939-45
So hypothetical they might have a rule, just encase we have a modern WW3,or something else like a pandemic..

Two shit stains in english football will be the ones missing out the most. Hahahaha.

You need to look at the original post which was that it was a slam dunk the government would take it out of the football authorities hands.

They didnt. They stood up and explained they're not going to.

The government took it out of the football authorities hands. Football has stakeholders, let me assure you that they had no say in this, whatsoever. They are already furious with UEFA for the Liverpool game the other night.

Let them have their fake hollow title. Everybody including them will know they haven’t really won it... and every opposition fan will let them know at every Liverpool game next season
That would be my view.
Let them have it if they think that's all that matters. Shower of self entitled wankers.Just get the thing stopped.

Would they not finish the season in July/August and start up the season Mid October. Premier League teams enter the FA cup in later rounds. No League Cup.

Agree - its the other end of the table where the issue is. Villa are 3 points short of safty with a game in hand! how do you sort that out?

Say that Villa are shit and their fans are pricks so they would have lost the game in hand and relegate them. if we're awarding titles by votes it wouldn't be hard to get 14 to agreed to that synopsis surely?

If we get the deciding vote in this the karma boner would last me until my death bed. I'm just imagining Khaldoon locking eyes with Henry accross a boardroom table with 18 other PL execs present and saying 'no'.

They should all want it null and void and I include Liverpool in that. Football is so low on the current priorities, that all football clubs should be coming together as one on this. If there is one club in the Prem that should be fully aware of how things off the field are more important than things on it, it is Liverpool.

You'd think so but the way their fans act in Europe and the glossing over of Heysel I'd say they'll want the League.

Only when it directly concerns them, ask Juventus fans about their concern.

They will just have to try and get these postponed games played over the summer, perhaps include some as pre-season matches for the next season. The real issue will be if the virus has a second wave (as happened in 1918) and it is still a huge problem here in June/July. Then all bets are off.

Who plays in the next CL then? You cant just give it back to City, Chelsea, Spurs and Liverpool because of last season.

I think they will find a way to play it out, even if it's just a bit of a pisstake with games every 3 days for 3 weeks in late July behind closed doors.

Theres just so many massive landmines around voiding or settling the league as it is that finishing it before the next one makes most sense.

One suggestion being made is the current season resumes next January through to the end of March. The next season then starts in early June - don't know where the Euros fit into all that?
