Just read an article in the Financial Times that a study by oxford university suggests 50 percent of us may have had it.

Can someone post the link?

My old man is in the south of spain. Probably the best place for him tbh. They're militant at the moment so he's pretty protected and just walks to the shop every now and then which he says is guarded and they only let one in one out sort of thing and everyone has to wear gloves. Everyone is keeping their distance too.
yes he's better off over there, given the choice i'd be out of the UK, i have a mate whos from Sri Lanka and hes managed to get home to his village up in the mountains,no one allowed in the village and if you go out you dont come back, should have gone with him

Ok how about it is trying to protect the natural balance against the onslaught from humans trying to upset it?
Sorry. I dont think anything is trying to hurt us...even the virus. It just exists and it's bad luck that its impacting us. We need to be better prepared for sure in the future and there will be lots of benefits for the earth ( I hope)... but I dont think its it's a force.

hantavirus is not a new virus. it already exists around the world, and cannot be transmitted from person to person. it is only transmitted by inhaling urine/feces fumes of infected rodents ‘’

never heard about it before, tbh, but I'd not bet it won't mutate and start being able to fuck us up further. The fact that they tested other passengers from the bus says they don't exclude that option too.

A lot of talk about how this will prepare us for future pandemics both medically and how society reacts.

Surely the focus should be on prevention and not cure and tough sanctions on China and their disgusting wet markets and animal rights (or lack of)

Will we as a species learn anything from this or will we turn a blind eye for €$¥£ again?
the problem is its not just China its rife in parts of Thailand, live animal trafficing earns more than drugs trafficing

They tested everyone in Iceland and discovered 40 different strains of the virus. This could mean rapid virus mutation and could indicate that the chance of finding a vaccine are non existant.

40 mutations do not equal 40 strains thankfully ;) as the guys in the article say, the majority of mutations are not of medical importance and are mostly useful to trace the geographical origin of that particular sampled virus.
Dr Derek Gatherer, an infectious disease specialist at Lancaster University, admitted he was not surprised with the findings.

He said: 'This is much as we would expect. All viruses accumulate mutations, but few of them are of much medical consequence.
'They are valuable in tracing the origins of infection chains. It looks like Iceland has imported quite a few infections from other European countries.'

Allan Randrup Thomsen, a virologist from the Department of Immunology and Microbiology at the University of Copenhagen, said the results described by the team 'make good sense'.

Professor Thomsen said: 'It is interesting with the 40 specific variants that fall into three clusters that can be traced back to specific sources of infection.'
As am I. Viking genetic heritage.
Really? I didn't know that. Could you link an article, I'm actually curious.

Spain isn't that far out of facism, they're used to being told what to do. Thankfully the youth have also got on board. I went to the supermarket today for the first time in 13 days and it was a joy. Nearly brought a tear to my eye to see how respectful everyone was. Gloves were obligatory and 75% of the people had masks on.
Most of the population hasn't lived under fascism and half of those who had were against it.

It was because human killed and ate animals they had no need to eat,the chinese and obsession with eating weird things in unhygenic conditions passed this to the world
not 100% kaz but not sur the eating was the cause, the animals captive had low immune systems due to being caged and the virus jumped between them creating what we have now, that could have been picked up by human contact or touching body fluids then touching the mouth

As a veggie i would say none but if humans insist on eating meat then keep it to animals that are familar, commonly farmed and killed and eaten hygienicly
I'm a carnivore but always find it tricky that we say these things come from eating things we shouldn't. Is there a scientific reason that hygienically prepared dog is in any way worse than hygienically prepared beef? Is it purely hygiene or is there something inherently, medically "wrong" with eating things like cats, dogs, bats etc?

That seems a reasonable idea, keeping and eating them was the cause though
