COVID-19 — Coronavirus

My stepdaughter who lives in Yorkshire received her letter from the Gov. because she has a low immune system due to existing hospital drug treatment.
Seems she has probably contracted CV (only 29) according to local hospital. They have reserved an isolation bed for her but because she seems to be breathing ok they prefer her to stay in bed at home and they ring her every 2 hours night and day.
She has been told to stop the medication that she self injects that causes low immune system.

NHS really are delivering what was promised in the letter.

Sorry Chippy but we have been told repeatedly that we have no-where reached the peak and therefore these figures announced today unfortunately do not surprise me in the least.Be warned that this increase of 260 ? will be eclipsed time and time again before we hit that summit.
You're looking at this too simplistically mate. Of course we expect the numbers to go up, no-one is questioning that. What you don't seem to be considering (and the point I was making) is how fast are they going up?

Numbers of deaths per day has been multiplying by 10 roughly every 9 or 10 days. That means an average daily increase of 26% per day (assuming 10 days).

The impact of that, if continuing is, clearly awful. It would mean 2,600 people per day dying in 10 days time, based on todays figures. Truly shocking and of course we all hope that the recent measures will soon kick in and the rate slow down so that it is not as bad as this. (Although who knows).

But the figures over the last two days have been terrible. They *should* surprise you and worry you. We went from 115 deaths on Thursday to 181 yesterday. A rise of +57%. I hoped this was a spurious one-off, not to be repeated. Then today we went to +260. An increase of +43% on the already alarming 181. To put it another way, the average daily increase since Thursday has been +50%!

115 + 50% = 173
173 + 50% = 260

That is shockingly bad and MUCH worse than projected.

My mrs uses gloves for the post slits it open and then uses a pair of tweezers to extract the letter.

I feel like I’m on the set of Silent Witness watching a post Mortem. Surreal times!

Why not handle the post, refrain from touching the face, then wash hands?

I know several doctors and nurses on the front line in the UK and the stories they are sharing are very distressing

I know some and their stories are very different. Wards have been emptied and readied but not a mad influx of people. I'm guessing the London hospitals are having a more difficult time than in the North.

There is over 1, billion people in China and under 4,000 deaths from corona virus don’t care how many doors they’ve welded anyone who believes them figures is deluded

I’ve got a policy now of just ignoring any posts where people are comparing data out of China and I feel really sorry for people who keep citing Chinese PR releases about them getting back to normality - beyond gullible

Drop in the number of cases though which is good (assuming we are doing at least the same number of tests).

Another 269 people have died in the UK after testing positive for coronavirus, taking the total to 1,028.

The vast majority of those were in England, where a further 246 deaths means a total of 935 people have died there.

NHS England has said the victims were aged between 33 and 100 years old, and all but 13 of them had underlying health conditions.

Scotland has had 7 more deaths bringing the total to 40.

There have been four more fatalities in Wales, bringing the total to 38.

Northern Ireland has had 15 deaths after two more people who tested positive for the disease died there

The highest number of deaths in one area was at Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust in England where 16 people died. Fifteen of the deaths were at the Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals Trust.

Out of the 269 coronavirus-linked deaths announced on Saturday, more than 75 were in London.

Hundreds of frontline NHS staff will be tested this weekend to find out if they have the coronavirus.

Cabins have been set up at the Chessington World of Adventures theme park on the outskirts of southwest London.

NHS staff will drive up to them and get their nose and mouths swabbed by nurses to be sent off for testing.

Conservative MP Alister Jack became the latest cabinet member to announce he is self-isolating after experiencing symptoms of the coronavirus on Saturday

USA numbers look pretty small today. Guess there is some delay in reporting, or less testing, no way it drops this much, barely 1k cases today after 19k yesterday.

Still having issues with thick cunts not understanding social distancing. Just been down to the shop to get a few bits for my gran. Only me and this smack rat in the shop and she is stood right behind me when I am paying not even 10cm away, never mind 2 meters, despite signs all over the place and markings on the floor.

Fucking thick twats in this country. Feel so sorry for the poor shop workers who have to deal with people like this all the time.

Quite funny we’re I live they are blaming the cigans ( Roma gypsies ) for spreading this . Victor orban is wanting to take emergency powers in which he can over rule any duma vote . In theory he wants self rule which is very dangerous

The NHS could have prevented "chaos and panic" and was "wholly unprepared" for the coronavirus pandemic, the editor of one of the world's most prestigious medical journals has said.

Writing in The Lancet, Dr Richard Horton said warnings issued to bosses in the health service about a possible outbreak such as COVID-19 were ignored.

He said his own journal on 20 January pointed to the risk of a global pandemic, saying "preparedness plans should be readied for deployment at short notice, including securing supply chains of pharmaceuticals, personal protective equipment, hospital supplies and the necessary human resources to deal with the consequences of a global outbreak of this magnitude

Dr Horton has also said the government's "Contain, Delay, Mitigate, Research" plan was unsuccessful.

"It failed, in part, because ministers didn't follow the World Health Organisation's advice to 'test, test, test' every suspected case.

"They didn't isolate and quarantine. They didn't contact trace", he said.

"These basic principles of public health and infectious disease control were ignored, for reasons that remain opaque

He added that: "The result has been chaos and panic across the NHS.

Went out for a walk in the hills this morning, brilliant until I walked the last bit along the road home.
Two male cyclists, side by side about half a metre apart, one on the road and the other on the pavement I was walking on! I wanted to shoot him.
Hard to definitely say but I doubt they were from the same household, they weren’t keeping their own social distance, breathing all over me as he passed, and shouldn’t be on the pavement anyway.
Some people don’t give a shit.

Why are you surprised? The numbers are as expected. You give the impression of following the data and if that's the case you know what the trajectory should be and what the lag between interventions and outcomes should be.

Sorry mate but you are just mistaken about this.

Our daily deaths have NOT been increasing at the rate of +50% per day, or anything like it. And the past 2 days they have.

This therefore is not expected. The last 2 days deaths have been MUCH worse than expected. Hopefully a blip yesterday. And hopefully another blip today. As I said.

We haven't had the idiots from last weekend added yet
I am feeling very depressed about the numbers from here and elsewhere today,i feel it is the tip of the iceburg
It’s not going improve any time soon. Certainly for 2-4 weeks. So if it’s depressing you, I’d honestly suggest not clicking on the thread for a bit for your own mental health.
