Scariest away day following City

deffo ST JAMES PARK Late 1980s in the match labelled in the Sun that morning the Tolmie v keegan match they were 3-0 up after 15 mins and with them 5-1 up they decided they weren't happy enough so decided en masse to enter our end

I'll add a few personal ones to the usual 'orrible places !! Luton 1975, fighting and mayhem during the game and 'back and forth pitch invasions afterwards' held back as best as possible by the Police. Arsenal 1978, thought I was going to get done by 3 gooners but managed to escape. It was punk era and one of them had a vest type top with an open zip exposing his nipple which made it slightly surreal!! Chelsea league 1986, just before the Full Members Cup I think, not nice at all. Spurs 93, toxic due to the recent FA Cup q/f. Stoke away in 98, in their bit and surrounded by complete nutters who wanted to kill and maim. Millwall 'banned' game, thought I'd be with 'families' in the Family Stand...….got that one wrong (see Stoke 98) !!!

Full Members we did ok given so outnumbered.
We did indeed. Saw some amazing things that day by some City fans.
Anyway after the match I walking back to the train/tube with one of my mates, and who asks to tag along? Daft Donald. Tells me all the chelsea boys are looking for him.

Derby away when Quinn went in net, we were in the ley stand, a bit dicey for a while
Around 77 ?
I was a 14 year old living near Derby. M1 roundabout was a short walk away from my house so i went there to hitch a lift to baseball ground. Had a City scarf cos i thought a Blue would pick me up but a nice young couple stopped and took me to the ground.
After the game i walked back to a good hitching spot and it was going off all over.
The couple that picked me up earlier once again stopped and told me to get in. The nice young man driving was covered in blood and had had a kicking off City.

City's mob were giving Chelsea the runaround earlier in the day, I know that because I saw it. City had a big and tasty looking mob and while Chelsea's numbers would have ultimately 'won the day' they were getting scattered before the game
2 coaches went from the Hat and feathers Ancoates that morning, the Muir brothers Tate and other game fookers on bosrd, fun day.I remember on this site few years ago we had photos of the coaches outside pub and the lads, but I wouldn't have a clue how to find them again.

Went on the special to that Luton game( Deb leading the singing). Never knew they had any sort of crew but they sure did. Boiling hot day iirc.

my personal worst would be newcastle away 1978 fa cup we won 3-1 newcastle brown bottles raining down pitch invasions non stop fighting crazy crazy day, brum away was always bad, leeds away but we often gave them more back, rags was never fun,or either scouse clubs, lets be honest in the 70s most aways where scary, yes i remember full members v chelsea too our new mini bus went back nearly every panel damaged.

Indeed, it was hot, hot, hot ! Rodney not happy with being subbed so marched with the band and sat on the touchline with his shirt off IIRC

Schalke.
Walking across an eerily empty car park after the game a big bloke dressed in full on German costume came barreling towards me shouting and frothing. As he got closer i decided he was having it, no questions asked. Luckily he stopped about a metre short and we had a Clint Eastwood moment before he turned around, took one step and fell flat on his face.
Ajax pre match.
You all remember the handbags across the canal afternoon they showed on news at ten right?
Well this fucking idiot found himself in their boys boozer on the opposite side to City.
I'd been in the place about an hour and got talking to a sound bloke as we sat outside watching the world go by. I could see my mate i was meeting on the other side.
Things started getting a bit giddy as more of their boys turned up looking for trouble so the Dutch coppers pushed us inside and the shutters came down for a bit. I got sussed and things weren't looking too good for me until the old boy i was with stood up and had a word with a few of the keener lads.
Turned out he was old school hooligan they all knew. Stayed in the bar after the shutters came back up and my new mate pointed out how the Dutch hooligan squad deal with 'arrests' as it unfolded outside. They do not fuck about.
Post match- Scrapping in the rld til 1am.

Aye was there kicked off everywhere even inside , not only did we have Chelsea to deal with there was a group of millwall ripping up seats and lobbing them into our end
They didnt last long in our end. They were full of themselves at first, and then scrambling to get out of a small opening in the fence.

Nothing really bad fortunately. I've never been to Leeds or Millwall

Though West Ham and Chelsea 84/85 League Cup were very intimidating

Kept in for ages, the fuckers were still waiting for us.
Portsmouth in '85 and Cardiff in 84 were similar.

A brick through the special train at Wolverhampton in 1984 that hit someone and injured him quite badly is the worst I've seen

Anyone else go to Chelsea league cup mid week about 83/84 we got stuffed 5-1 it pissed down torrentially and we were in that open end?

Not a big away following that night but still the loons were after us a petrol bomb was thrown and hit the metal corrugated fencing as we were coming away from the ground.

Piss wet through all the way home on the special train.

The

then again Cardiff had its moments
Went to Cardiff mid 80s - 200 on train - tasty set of lads - about 100 police waiting for us at station - loads on horseback - surrounded us and escorted us to ground but that didn’t deter the taffs and they continually broke through the escort - did all the aways in those days Chelsea West Ham Leeds Boro Birmingham - all notorious but that trip to Cardiff compared with the others

No trouble and it started our relationship with West Ham. I was in the Lion and the Lamb with Mick Fiorini etc when Mick has the construction cap. We marched down Marylebone Road to Kings Cross and we surrounded by Dibble with dogs. They put us on the tube and corralled and detained us at Moorgate. 150 in the cells. I wriggled away from a dibble who had me pinned and dived in a taxi with other escapees. We got relegated and the Hammers applauded us.

Agreed. Leeds are faggots.
