I think it's probably time to admit defeat on this one. If he were going to renew, he'd have done so by now. COVID aside, this summer would be 'p*ss or get off the pot' time for him - last chance for us to offer a good contract and still be in a position where we could command a good fee. The fact that it's gone quiet and Bayern rumours are coming back, to me all points to him leaving whilst we can still get money for him.

Well if he wants to leave. Take that 70 M and get Upamechano from Leipzig as our new Otamendi replacement to play with Laporte. That would be the best solution unless he wants to stay and signs a new contract what’s probably not going to happen.

Werner too, can play LW as well as striker and has a similar release clause. Has a very good G&A output over the past 4 seasons and has similar pace.

I'd make a FINAL power play for Messi using Cancelo (£50m) and Leroy (£70m)- there is talk Messi is allowed to walk for nothing this summer but I don't think he would want to damage his legacy by triggering that clause.

However...

We could also chuck them £20m to take Semedo.

See how Uefa fancy ad revenues without Messi in the Champions League ;)

Bayern will be a powerful pull for someone like Sane.

Not as much as Barca or Madrid, though.

That's how you change the equation.
Sell sane for 80m
Id go all out for Harry Kane At £120m
If we put half our chances away we would be up there challenging
Then next year kun leaves and we have no issues

Sounds more like a fair price for someone who could be one of the best players in the world in a few years. And if he said no, we know he's just stringing us along and we should sell.

The cost of replacing such a player is far greater than any increase in wages.

I get where you are coming from but there are a number of things which go against your argument imo.
Does he not get on with Pep , and is his attitude wrong ? It appears that Pep has been frustrated with his performances on the pitch , does that carry through into training etc, does it cause issues within the squad etc. Does he have an over-inflated oipinion of himself, and believe that he is already " one of the best players in the world " , if that is the case I can't imagine it going down well with our management team/

He clearly is very talented and capable of some excellent performances, but equally he can also be quite ordinary when not on his game.

Clearly it is all about opinions , but if Pep is frustrated with him and it is due to attitude or application, then getting the best price possible and moving on seems like the best option .

And before I am accused of being a hater, if Sane really wanted to stay and would commit to the club , rather than having to be tempted simply because of the contract offer , then I would be delighted.

However, I am firmly of the opinion that he is off asap.

I won’t comment on Kane - I’m not a fan but we won’t get anywhere near £80m for Sane - I suspect. Sane has played along to Bayern’s narrative and we will be lucky to get a fee at all. With football delayed and him coming back from injury he may stay here until next summer and sign for Bayern on a free and bagging a huge signing on bonus.

No and I never suggested he did, but he made significant contributions to 2 of our best ever seasons. Yeah he did score against the rags? Yeah he had 2 great games against Schalke.

He's a scapegoat because despite being one of the best wingers in the world, any lack of tracking back or failing a couple of dribbles is seen as him being inconsistent or mentally weak. We handled it badly because we allowed his contract to wind down so much we'll be lucky to get £60mil for him.
Allowed? He's had a very large contract on the table for nigh on 2 years now. Should we waterboard him to force him to sign?

I agree, I just feel any of the arguments against him, you could make for him being inconsistent, the same could be made for Sterling & Mahrez, and Bernardo could also be more prolific. What's important is we learn from it and re-invest the money wisely.

He looks out of pocket but he’s busy engineering a free transfer so his sign on bonus will more than cover anything he’s lost. Sane, Bayern and Sane’s representatives have played us and really fucked us over - which is unusual because we are good at renewing contracts typically but I suspect Bayern have been in Sane’s ear from the moment he left Schalke. We need to remember keeping any decent German player out of Bayern's clutches is difficult - they own the Bundesliga and the DFB - so anything they want they usually get - and usually on the cheap.

For the quoted 50-70m I would say fuck it & keep him.

Said it from the 1st season he had wow what a player, his individual skill, goals passes & speed what more can we ask for
But then you can see his sulky bottom lip, his stupid mother talking shit & then sulking everytime he was taken off or not starting

He then turned down 2 maybe 3 very good offers & work rate off the ball in a team with Pep as manager just doesnt go.

I just new out of all the top players we have on show he would be the 1st to fuck off & it's going to happen

So if it was me fuck the money keep him & he gets his own deal sorted in January

He will still play & do his best imo but unless we are going to go balls deep in Gnabry or Sancho then he fucking stays

If we sell & buy nobody then it's a fucking disaster

Up there challenging?
I thought same mate ;), kane would get 40 goals a season playing for us the amount of golden chances we create & miss, “challenging” would be the least of our worrys, sane’s gone 100% in my own opinion, fantastic player when he wanted to be almost unplayable, unfortunatly being unplayable 25% of the time dosen’t work when your boss is a perfectionist

And any player that isn't a total dick, would ensure a club that enriched him, treated him well, and gave him some of the best training available would get something back for their efforts. Those that would not, in my opinion, are awful people.

We’ve been posting pictures of him more than anyone on our social media.
If he is really going I don’t think he should be in any

Up there challenging?
For the premier league this year
Can’t say we would win as Liverpool points to date is ridiculous but we would have been close enough to put them under pressure and see if they cracked
Rather than the free run they have had

That boat sailed last summer. We would have done the deal with Bayern and a deal of £120m would have got over the line.

They would never have paid £120m.

If they would have, they wouldn't have spent every single day of the entire summer chipping away at it the way they did, the'd have offered a half deceng amount to start with and shown a bit of intent.

£70-80m with one year left and in the current climate is a deal to do imo. Leroy isn’t going to sign a contract here and no point in losing a lot of money for the sake of it? Do Bayern still have coman? Maybe a deal including him? Or Alaba? Would prefer sancho or Ferran Torres but seems peps pride won’t try and bring sancho back . :-(

run it down, a message couldn’t be sent more emphatically:::

Business head obviously tells you to take the money, however, something very seedy about it all, the way to bite back is alarm the little shit that 2 years without top level football is a long time!

Love Leroy and what he brings to the team when fit and in form. The amount of goals replayed from the last couple of years that involve him show his worth. That said, you never know what being out for 8 months will do for a player who relies on blistering pace. For that reason if he won't sign an extension 70m is a fair chunk to find a replacement. We need a similar player because I believe him missing has been the biggest reason - after Laporte - why we have been a little off this year.
