Running thread

Grrr COVID has done for me for running for a bit … nice sunny day, jogging along at reasonable tilt, then some lass appears looking at her mobile and not looking to keep a safe distance, so I swerve right while keeping an eye on her, just at the moment a tree root comes in line with my foot, hit the ground like a sack of spuds and my shoulder takes the full force.. blooming agony.. not broken but pain is something unreal. No running for a few days - cooped up and it feels a lot worse without the run or a good bike ride.

Oof - hope you're ok though mate.
But...did you manage to get a pic of the lass bearing in mind you couldn't take your eyes off her?

Can't road run due to a problem with my lower back at the moment but have started to try and run on the spot for around 30 mins in the garden surely this is still ok for Fitness I have been told I am waisting my time doing this any advice

I've started running quite a bit recently. Could anyone recommend a watch /fitness tracker which can store music on so I don't have to run with my phone please? I'm hoping for the cheapest option, but the really cheap fitness bands like xiaomi mi band 4 and Samsung galaxy fit only do music via Bluetooth from phone.

I bought the Garmin Vivoactive 3 Music last summer after dropping and smashing my phone whilst out running. It was £150 off amazon.

Looks good, the Garmin connect app's great and the sound's decent (only using some cheap bluetooth earphones from decathlon). Would definitely recommend.

You are Negredo and I claim my £5.

Just back from my one longish run a week. Pushed myself to run for an hour solid and managed 11k. Would like to say I felt good, but christ I didn’t. Not sure San Miguel and gin last night helped though.

No mate, why?
Ah, never mind. Me and my daughter were running past a couple who had just finished their run this morning, and from the time he said for her I’d guess he must have been in the 22/23 range so thought it might have been a huge coincidence and it was you, lol.

Said it was random! I’m sure we would probably know each other’s face and have let on to each other before.

edit....and also I’d have guessed was early 50’s which I’m pretty sure you’ve said before was how old you were.

Yes we probably have done mate, and Yes early 50’s, my girlfriend is 35 and struggling to get under 30 minutes for 5k.. my times really piss her off lol.

Went to do 5k round the lake in Heaton Park but it was absolutely packed, gave up as sick of avoiding dogs and other runners or cyclists... will go early from now on.
10ish is not too bad mate, can just about get round without too much aggro.

On a different note, one thing we’ve been doing to mix it up a bit is doing reverse parkrun route, and also doing old route starting in front of the hall and also old route in reverse too. Once you’ve worked it out in your mind it’s easy enough to do. Quite enjoyed it and it’s kept my kids focused/entertained.

Must have been high humidity this morning - the sweat starting rolling down my head not long after setting off. When I got back almost an hour later I had to sit in the garden at 8am for 10 mins just to let it all evaporate/cool me down. Was a right old slog

Did Alex parkrun on Saturday in about 22.40.Much harder to push for a good time when you are running solo.Got 8 miles in yesterday around Trafford Park was hard after a load of tinnies on Saturday
Has anyone had a go at the Ross Barkley 5k ? Its basically running 5k from lots of sprints and reps then pausing your watch

My daughter has just got into skateboarding (she's 15 and autistic - Asperger's as it was previously known). She has these obsessions but generally they are positive as it helps her health and routines (her daily exercise and nutrition is astounding).
Of course, I have to go out with her at the moment in time (and she doesn't really have any friends anyway). We go out to some quiet areas in the evening away from it all and part of our daily exercise. I'm personally loving it...but after getting a bit 'creative' on the board (I was never a skater) I've come off twice. Once landing on my right shoulder, hip, arm and knee and yesterday landing on my left ribs (knocking the wind out of me). Few cuts and bruises but my knee was in agony after the first fall (managed walking but couldn't run). Couldn't sleep on my left hand side as my ribs feet bloody broken. Hey ho...I'll take it easy next time as I find my balance (too much fun to give up now...and you've gotta jump straight back on as with life in general).
Question is, with any impact injuries is it generally ok to go run and try and stimulate the injury? I've had worse injuries just through running which last lasted far longer than somersaulting off a skateboard injury. As of today the knee feels a fair bit better but will lay off running for another day or two.

* checks for a skateboard thread...

No but if its sprint based itll be an absolutely evil ****.

My current regime is all hill sprints based.

Horrible but makes me feel tremendous.
