Running thread

No expert or long distance runner here, but hoping there's someone on this thread who can advise me. I'm 36 had a hip resurfacing two years ago. I'm active, do weights 4 times a week, boxing once, and walk the dog for an hour every day. But...... I miss running like hell!

I've experimented a few times with flat jogs but it's been awful the week after. I just did some hill work for 40 minutes, and felt fine. God knows how I'll feel tomorrow!

Anyone had a joint replacement and got back to running? I've been reading for a week, andn apparently there's no concrete evidence it'll reduce the life span of a new joint. Any thoughts on the matter? Cheers.

Can’t really offer any advice, however there’s a bloke at my local running club who had a full hip replacement last year. He’s back up and running short distance (1-4 miles) and building fitness for longer miles. He’s 79 haha.

Out of interest, what kind of fuelling did you do before and during the marathon?

Before was breakfast of alpen cereal, coffee and then peanut butter on toast, during was 3 or 4 SIS energy gels, water, lucozade sport & quite a few jelly babies handed out by the london crowds

I'm 51 and not done any running whatsoever for nearly a year. Before that I used to run 5k in about 27 minutes about twice a month. I gave up as kept getting calf strains and a sore achiles. Anyway, today I decided to give it a go again and ran 3.85 miles non-stop in 34 minutes 58 seconds. Avge pace of 9.04/mile. The route was far from flat from home, into and around Heaton Park and back home again. Although I'm knackered I'm quite pleased with that and am pleased to report no injuries at all! Happy days. PS. Thanks for the inspiration to all those on this thread!

Taken the plunge and finally got round to booking/paying for the Great Manchester Run half marathon, two weeks today!

Looking forward to it although slight trepidation as only ever done three 10k’s so it’s going to be a big step up.
