Running thread

My daughter has just got into skateboarding (she's 15 and autistic - Asperger's as it was previously known). She has these obsessions but generally they are positive as it helps her health and routines (her daily exercise and nutrition is astounding).
Of course, I have to go out with her at the moment in time (and she doesn't really have any friends anyway). We go out to some quiet areas in the evening away from it all and part of our daily exercise. I'm personally loving it...but after getting a bit 'creative' on the board (I was never a skater) I've come off twice. Once landing on my right shoulder, hip, arm and knee and yesterday landing on my left ribs (knocking the wind out of me). Few cuts and bruises but my knee was in agony after the first fall (managed walking but couldn't run). Couldn't sleep on my left hand side as my ribs feet bloody broken. Hey ho...I'll take it easy next time as I find my balance (too much fun to give up now...and you've gotta jump straight back on as with life in general).
Question is, with any impact injuries is it generally ok to go run and try and stimulate the injury? I've had worse injuries just through running which last lasted far longer than somersaulting off a skateboard injury. As of today the knee feels a fair bit better but will lay off running for another day or two.

* checks for a skateboard thread...

try a bike

First time I’ve pushed myself on a 5k since getting back into running at the start of lockdown and 24:10. Really happy with that and though it was hard it felt really good. Training hopefully starting to pay off.

Well done mate, motivating yourself. Not pushed myself on a 5k for 6 weeks now so will be interesting to see how I get on when I next go for it. Been ticking over on longer runs, at a slower pace.

Yes thats been me for the last 4/5 weeks. Nice to really push myself and see how my legs held up and was suprised i was able to keep it going at the same pace for 5k. Back to more sedate runs i think though now for a few weeks.

Ha...I've got a bike and have been biking for years. Ironically had a fall on a bike coming back from a park run a year or so back. Far, far worse than many skateboard fall. Flipped over the handle bars...was out of action for weeks.

these last few weeks have been the first time I have been on a bike since i was 12. (20 years ago)

Did the same over handlebar although i snapped my collarbone in half.

Was a good goalkeeper then. Didnt play to the same standard again

So..........not been out running for about a week (which is sh1te) but have had a lot on and still been out walking a few miles a day with the little ones but I have decided to take the plunge and order some improved footwear.

Behold, I am awaiting the arrival of a pair of size 10.5 Hoka One One Carbon X running footwear (I am now literally the epitome of all the gear, no idea).

I want to really start hammering it once these arrive and hopefully live up to expectation........

I was lucky when I came off my bike. No cars on the road (and it was near the Junction of Princess Parkway). Cable snapped on breaks and wrapped around the front wheel. Some nice sprains, cuts and bruises after that.
Felt like I broke my ribs the other night however...although healing up quite well today so could maybe be back running tomorrow.

heres to you fighting fit soon.

6k today in 27:33. Nice change running after the rain had fallen, with a bit of a chill in the air.

Pushed it a bit the last 3ks, running just under 4:30ks. Felt like I still had a bit in the tank so might push it a bit going forward.

Did 5k in 23:32 today, park quieter for a change, wanted to be a minute quicker but yet didn’t have the legs today for it.

Back to longer runs from tomorrow.

Excellent that mate. Been enjoying running, longer, listening to the podcasts but not pushed myself to run faster for 6/7 weeks now, until today.

Going to keep going with the 10ks/11ks, but run a faster 5k each week from now on. Struggling to be motivated to run much longer, knowing there is not an organised race on the horizon.

21 mins 5km today.

Trying for sun 20 again by summer, feeling fitter tho my weight training sometimes feels counterproductive when I start to feel leggy.

Can manage need to hang in the lower region of 6min miles longer than I can at the moment, but also struggle to care or push myself when out running for my own sake.
