Can't believe how busy the roads are this week compared to previous weeks.
Looks like people aren't bothering with the isolation anymore, a couple of friends in different parts of the UK say it's the time where they live

Definitely busier all round,I've posted before that I work at a waste plant.
Trade waste only,we would normally take about 400t a day, probably another 1500 to 2000t a day of the rest(drilling mud from the rigs).
First 2 week of lockdown we were down to 50t a day of trade waste.....this week so far we past 600t per day......summat ain't adding up.

Mrs just had a call from this number 02031298110,,the guy had an Australian accent although this seems a London number and the guy was pleading with her not to drink the tap water as it was infected, anyone else had this, should i pass it on to police?

Some prick in london on the wind up

what is the R NUMBER,( laymen's terms)i feel I should know but don't,like most things I tend not to bother with things I should know
The number that one person can infect others,it was six which meant one person would infect six people, then they would infect six more etc,now it is one, which means less people are getting infected, the key to avoid a second peak is to keep people away from each other and lift restrictions gradually keeping the R under one, this is what lockdown was all about

It wasn’t overwhelmed, there may be an excess of deaths because people got the wrong message with other conditions, it was never overwhelmed though.

Looking at the huge number of excess deaths not attributed to COVID, I'm not sure you can say that's simply because people are refusing to admit themselves to hospital.

There's been a big reduction in people being referred to hospital (causing modellers to predict a huge timebomb of cancer deaths), thousands of operations have been cancelled, there's been a huge increase in DNR forms, doctors and nurses are working on wards and equipment they've no experience on, ambulance waiting times are the longest on record (even for life-threatening emergencies), there's a huge shortage of PPE, there's been an enormous number of NHS workers who died, and all that's without mentioning the fact we've just had the highest number of NHS weekly deaths in history.

We're not the only country to have these problems and some of the above issues were inevitable but I just don't think you can say the NHS hasn't been overwhelmed on the basis that we've got a few empty beds.

Why does Johnson keep saying the NHS hasn't been overwhelmed?

Whitty has just put him right there by referencing all the excess deaths as a result of people unable to get NHS treatment for other conditions.
It is more people have been hesitant to seek treatment rather than unable to get it.

so how many people one person can infect ,because of social distancing then that should be one ?,sorry since ive finished work(furlough) my brain isnt working properly

If we had not social distanced one person gives it to nearly 3 people while they are infected. Therefore it expands massively. By social distancing the r rate is less than one therefore one person gives it to less than one other person. Therefore the infection is on the decline.

I think NHS has coped well with capacity. I think Northwick Park Hospital was overwhelmed for a couple of days when the acceleration of severe cases took service by surprise. Also, Pennine Acute Trusts reported 88 deaths in a day IIRC that indicates delayed reporting or possibly services were overwhelmed. These possible examples are very much the exception to the rule of NHS capacity coping very well.

Whitty just gave today's Guardian article on misleading and untimely international comparisons a big plug
https://www.theguardian.com/comment...how-does-britain-compare-with-other-countries

Interesting read. Agree with Whitty when he said you're not going to get a true comparison until the end and that excess mortality is the best figure. The bit where I'd disagree with Whitty is where he said you've got to wait till the end to learn lessons. I'm not sure you can wait that long.

They reckon it's less than one at present. That's why numbers are falling.

I reckon the outbreak is due to a fuck up at the Wuhan virus lab. Nothing intentional, just a fuck up like the scientist knocking over the flask at the start of the original Survivors TV show.
The genetics are all wrong for wet market transfer.
Anyway here's what the Bat Lady used to do to get virus samples.

She went missing during the initial outbreak in Wuhan. Was she dead or in prison? Who knows. The CCP lie for breakfast, lunch, tea, supper and dinner so we'll never know for sure. She's been found now. Whether she's telling the truth - well who knows.

I suppose there's lots of ways of defining capacity though. If you don't send people to hospital who need to go or take too long to send them then the NHS might not get, by one definition, be overwhelmed in terms of its capacity but you'll get lots of excess mortality outside of a hospital setting.

There isn't really a 'can' here.

If one person infects more than 1, it spreads when person 1 recovers. That's R>1
If one person infects less than 1 (on average), when person 1 recovers, there are less people infected and the infection pool shrinks. That's R<1

My thoughts revolve around the a bility of this virus to seek out the ones with underlying conditions.
Perhaps those who suffer badly have undiagnosed underlying conditions?
To be honest I am not sure that is the important question. Superficially at least, this is a respiratory infection, so it's extremely puzzling why it should be so much more fatal in people who have a BMI over 25, or type 2 Diabetes, for example. Understanding how and why it kills people - and some people but not others - is key to understanding how to treat it.

i thought the genetics were right to be a natural virus and this had been confirmed, on the flip side anything natural can be produced i suppose as its their right infront of us, i did hear the UK gevernment and the US had formed a team of biologists to get stuck into this so there must be some doubt somewhere, its certainly one for thought but i swing towards a natural virus at this stage
