Ad outlandish as this sounds maybe May would have been better if she was still PM in dealing with this crisis.
I felt she got a raw deal.

She was weak bud, what did for her was her remain stance when dealing wth the EU, the difference between how she did it and what's happening now is night and day.

I take your point that she might be a better person than Bojo but she was weak.

through choice of them all from years back i'd pick Borris anyday to deal with this at a stretch maybe Thatcher, she was ruthless and probably would have dealt with the lockdown to militant but she would have achieved the goal,,,tin hat

See, that’s what England is all about. Fuck the blame game, get out there and clap and bang anything for the carers.

Love this country.

Unlikely.
Getting our bueucacracy to move quickly is an anathama.
For things to improve, the command structure would have to have been flattened. Embedding the army to monitor what was going on at the coal face would also have to be done and distributing power to the peripheries would also have to happen as well as harnessing universities and the private sector without the dead hand of beauracracy getting in the way.
Strategic and tactical flexibility is NOT delivered by UK government or NHS beuracracy.
Nope, the key issues were as I posted,we went off our own way, stopped testing, went for herd immunity and were still going to mass gatherings,as was boris, they had to change when football shut down and even then didn't want to,time wasted

Quite patently wasn’t the government’s fault though, and you well know that. They were being led by our scientists at that point.

So do I, but that clapping is ridiculous and looks a wierd. It's ultimately a hollow gesture that serves no purpose.

Let's make Tuesday at 8pm 'Boo China' if we're gonna do silly things on our doorstep.

Totally agree with all of that.

The big question is why is this virus killing many people and yet barely making others ill at all. Instead of pinning our hopes on a vaccine which almost certainly will not be here in time, I think we have a more realistic chance of finding a drug or cocktail of drugs which means you just get sick, but much less so, and you don't actually die.

I think we are just still too short on time and sufficient data to answer that big question. Following could be contributing factors -

1) it’s suspected that a high viral load received plays a role in how far the disease can develop - yet to be confirmed,it seems logical to me, but applying logic here can be flawed after what we are starting to hear on the data about smokers/nicotine.

2) variations in our ace2 receptors could be playing a part here and the amount and location of these receptors.

3) we have generic data on cause of deaths, but I suspect we haven’t had time yet on a global scale to collate this data and find patterns not just on the pre-existing conditions a person had but how they reacted to ICU treatment in relation to their underlying condition I,e respiratory condition vs diabetes vs BMI level -

I suspect we are all in the dark at the moment on this one.

The medical officers have said when asked they provide the data and advice but the gov make the decisions, they would have been given more than one option as that is what modelling does,to absolve any government is bollocks,i am sure they didn't tell boris to shake hands and to tell us to do it and go to the rugby and brush it off

Each to their own. I certainly don’t view it as being silly, but if you want to boo China on yours then fill your boots.

Yeah yeah, whatever suits your narrative.

That is so misrepresentative karen, its just a political dig, nothing else.

At the start of this, even with extremely small numbers, we had nowhere near the number of tests required so they focussed on the very ill (like you), should they have just random tested instead ? Of course not they focussed on testing those most in need, not even the NHS working with the seriously ill could get tests. Its only in the last 2 weeks we've got anywhere near enough testing capacity to test 'large' numbers, but even now its still not nearly enough.

Potentially confirms what I posted before that excess deaths have hopefully peaked.

Excess deaths are going to go on for ages, maybe a year,so those cancer treatments for stopped, mental health, people still won't go to hospital with chest pain or stroke same as till now
