So do I, but that clapping is ridiculous and looks a wierd. It's ultimately a hollow gesture that serves no purpose.

Let's make Tuesday at 8pm 'Boo China' if we're gonna do silly things on our doorstep.
Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, Friday & Saturday could be left for 'boo Scousers' days, i think the vast majority of the UK would come out in force & it would raise community spirit

My missus does it, I don't, because I see some of those doing it and I know its a hollow gesture from many, like the drug taker in a flat opposite, yes we see him get regular deliveries, same format each time several times a week (could even be daily), he comes down to the entrance on his phone and waits, a car turns up (different car every time, though I'm sure they repeat), passenger window wound down, he chucks in some money, and picks up his packet, no contact (at least he social distances I guess), car drives away, he goes back inside. Of course it could be something innocent, but having seen him wandering about with his son, both off their faces, I think I'm fairly accurate, yet he doesn't miss the chance to show his appreciation.

I think our death rate looks horrific compared to other countries , only surpassed by Spain Italy and Belgium. However I have read that some countries are only reporting deaths that are a direct result of the virus such as Germany and we are putting all people down who have Coronavirus at the time of death as that being the cause. So this may skew the rates. However the proof will be in the final analysis and comparisons of overall excess deaths between countries. Currently it looks as if the government have some serious questions to answer when this is all done and dusted.

Has there been an explanation as to why our new cases today, is our second largest so far ?

Tests were at 85,000 I think up from just over 50,000, if positives weren’t much more it would mean we are testing the wrong people. So it’s probably a good thing.

That is so misrepresentative karen, its just a political dig, nothing else.

At the start of this, even with extremely small numbers, we had nowhere near the number of tests required so they focussed on the very ill (like you), should they have just random tested instead ? Of course not they focussed on testing those most in need, not even the NHS working with the seriously ill could get tests. Its only in the last 2 weeks we've got anywhere near enough testing capacity to test 'large' numbers, but even now its still not nearly enough.
They took a decision to stop testing in march ,that is on record the WHO shouted at us test, trace and isolate,at the start they did but that was Feb and start of march, they asked me if I had been in contact with anyone and I had to tell anyone I had been in close contact with so they could get tested, contact tracing to find people who had ir,not really random,we went away from what everyone else was doing, lost the chance to get ahead, there is no point saying any different, that is fact, boris did tell everyone he was still shaking hands and his dad said he would defy him and go to the pub,do you think the medics didn't tell him how serious this was.we were slow to react despite having time in hand to see what was unfolding, instead boris carried on like trump was at the same time

look you can read my posts from the start,i was supportive to most of it till we got to the mass gatherings but when I wasnt, the herd immunity was stupid,i was shouting protect the vulnerable,i was also supportive of hancock before and after his illness

I said many times I am glad it was the tories and not labour in charge,i was fair,i think boris was a fucking idiot bumbling about shaking hands, signalling this was not bad,i was glad he was out of the picture, not that that he was ill obvs, the others were much more commanding

This is not hindsight,i was saying this at the time as many were

He sounded more like a prime minister today so let's see

So also slightly worrying that the numbers are far higher than we think.
I don’t think so we know there are more infected than those 4000 we were finding, the more testing is designed to find more so we can track and isolate, the more we can do that when the numbers fall then we know we are getting on top of it.

Interesting information on excess mortality in the economist. It shows who produces half weekly, weekly and monthly reports and the days they are published
https://www.economist.com/graphic-d...ess-deaths-across-countries#eid-england-wales

That’s a good read, seems to be well researched. Also shows that’s the ‘official’ death totals we see are verging on pointless. Italy only recording deaths from confirmed cases.

There’s going to be a wealth on data in the next few months for people like this to look at.

FWIW I think we’ll end up a very similar outcome to France, Italy & Spain.

Karen - We didnt have a medical testing industry. Germany and South Korea did. In fact South Korea built one as a result of their investigation report into SARS.
What we did/do have is lots of lab capacity at pharma businesses and universities. The only way that could be mobilised in the time available would be through tactical and strategic flexibility. It took Mat Hancock knocking heads together to get this to happen at the start of April. It wasn't happening before that point.

Perhaps what I should have said, is how woeful were the early numbers on confirmed cases.
