Running thread

I managed 12k on Saturday, and 11k yesterday, and I'm pretty tired now.

Whilst running, I listened to The Railway Children by E Nesbitt - a throwback to bygone times, when life was simple, innocent, happy. It was also about to be disrupted by WW1. A very enjoyable book though.
Not sure what it was about this bit in bold that I read this morning but it prompted me to get off my arse as I hadn't ran all week whilst eating shite and consuming gin like oxygen.

Much obliged.

Done the same 11k course that I did last Sunday in pretty much the same time. I am especially pleased at this as I was ready for jacking it in after the first couple of miles as I was fucked on the uphill and not feeling it.

I did 8.5k in 60 mins mate.

So, pretty slow. But I was focusing on keeping the pace steady and breathing properly.
Yeh I am gassed all the way round to be fair - think I need to vary my speeds to try and improve my overall stamina.

I annoyingly might actually phone someone so that I am forced to have a conversation (lucky people).........

Edit: Just re-read it, not that slow though?

Well done. Don't give it up, but don't get too hung up if you miss a day or two.

I'm covering 10k in about an hour at a gentle pace. I find the longer distances much more comfortable if I've got something good to listen to. More often than not that's an audiobook, but can be classical music, especially early in the morning. I was keeping pace with Bittersweet Symphony the other day.

if i do a 6+ mile run .. i tend to go for... nothing for 2 miles...then LBC for a bit... then radio X ... then capital

It's a pretty "meh" time for 8.5k imo mate but the feeling of control over the run is really nice.

I'm learning from others on here that times aren't important and it's the quality of the session that really matters.

Proper fat mess at the minute and really unfit. Would the couch to 5k plan be good to start? It’s 9 weeks building up to 30 mins of continuous running. First weeks are stop and stArt like 1 min run 1.30 walk etc

So you were walking . Pfft.

Sounds like a great place to start mate. Just remember the golden rule of running for fat loss: run slowly.

Good luck with it - why not come back here and let us know about your progress? When are you doing your first session?

I've run practically every day since lockdown and I was training for Manchester marathon.
I'm down to around 11.5 stone now and I'm nearly 45 years old.
Shame I dont think the marathon will take place even in October.

Did another 5km yesterday evening (after the 11km on Sunday) - I had absolutely nothing in my legs after about a minute and a half.

As it very quickly dawned on me that merely completing it would be a challenge in itself and that I wouldn't be breaking any land speed records, I adopted a very remedial pace to complete it.

Still didn't enjoy it even then........

5.41km - 30.11

It does...it's a tough but to crack (it took me 3 years with three attempts) until I got it (and I've historically hated running even though I grew up doing sports pretty much every day). Still have the occasional down day run but lately I've really enjoyed it. Gyms being closed has pushed me back on the pavements. An evening run can be massively blissful especially if you don't hammer it and find some great tunes to run with.

My man.
