Everyone knows the guidelines, it's not like they are hard to follow, why does it have to be up to the government to tell people what to do, there has to be common sense too.

Anyone not following the available guidelines are idiots, if you decide to go somewhere "nice" and it's crowded, then go somewhere else that isn't, don't make a beach or tourist spot more crowded, just because you want to be selfish.

Also if you have symptoms, isolate, get a test done, and stay isolated until you get the result, in fact better still isolate (test apart) for 7 days regardless, just in case you get a false test result, if symptoms persist get another test.

I don't see why people can't take responsibility for themselves and others without having to be told/ordered too.

Because it's already been proven it doesn't work. If it did, there'd have been no reason to create most of the (very dubiously written) laws they did in the first place.

In a nutshell this is it. I think most people do use their common sense, indeed many were locking themselves down and taking precautions before the government issued any official instructions. The reckless and idiots have been the same all the way through this and nothing bar imprisonment will stop them continuing to be idiots.

How has it been proven that it doesn't work ?

It has worked, the vast majority of people have done as they were asked, and still are doing, the problem we had was the advice was given too late, and initially not emphasised enough, so we had to lockdown (long after it taken hold), but once people understood how serious it was, people took notice.

Some, a sizeable minority still don't think it applies to them, are too thick to understand, or the odd nutjob who still think its all a hoax, but the majority have followed the guidance, and continue to do so.

People have to take responsibility for themselves.

1) Eastern countries are "used" to outbreaks of things and embrase things like masks quickly and still regularly wear them from the 2003 SARS outbreak.
2) Thailand isn't a 1st world country. there maybe loads of cases/deaths going unreported in small outlying village areas.
3) different strains in different areas maybe having an effect.
4)Thailand specifically is quite tropical so high humidity which apparenly is more hostile to the virus on surfaces
5) Thailand disifnected the streets every night ( as did a lot of eastern countries )

Let's look at it another way, Hong Kong has one of the greatest population densities in the world coupled with a large number of travellers, particularly from China.

Hong Kong is no different to somewhere like New York yet New York has seen 23,000 die of Coronavirus, Hong Kong has seen 4...... In Hong Kong they don't worry about R because it's technically impossible to calculate as there are so few cases.

Another thing to note, Hong Kong never locked it's population down.

It doesn't make any sense whatsoever that purely wearing masks or anything else is the difference between 23,000 people dying compared to 4.

Because it's already been seen over the last few weeks, even before the laws were changed, that social distancing and keeping to the rules were being ignored by more and more people, relax them further and that will break down even more. You have to account for that, absolutely people have to take responsibility for themselves but the government can also make steps that ensure they do too, such as not changing the laws as quickly (some of which are way too early based against their own timescale they set only two weeks ago).

It may still be the minority and I'd agree with the sentiment it is. It's about making sure that minority is kept as...minor as possible though.

And despite these "idiots" we still have managed to get it under control. I was taking my own precautions in mid Feb, because I read the stories about how serious it was, and avoided the places where I'd be more likely to get infected (Wembley apart, but even there we were careful).

I think the biggest problem we had as a country was that it got a very foothold here before we really knew about it, because of the half term holiday at the end of Feb, with people holidaying in the Alps and Spain just as it was spiking there, and bringing it back unbeknown, and in places like London is was spreading rampantly within a week.
 
556 deaths today according to BBC news. Always more on a Monday but it looks like we’re going backwards. Worrying figure, highest since 12 May. Hope it’s a one off because according to the trend it should be around 300.

Most people that I know and associate with are doing exactly the same now as they were mid March, in fact they are probably being even more careful now than then.

Those I see that are flouting the guidelines, and undoubtedly some are, I don't associate with, and having seen their actions its even less likely I ever will.

At the end of the day, I can't completely cut out my chance of catching it, but I can do my very best, so I will. I look forward one day to be being able to go out with multiple antibacterial wipes, and crossing the road to avoid others, but until I'm sure I'll stay paranoid, hopefully preventing me, and my friends/family for becoming infected.

Usually less on a Monday, reporting Sunday figures. Tuesday usually the higher figure.
 
That was a great news conference today.
400 extra deaths appeared from nowhere with no explanation.
The Manfred Mann 5 4 3 2 1 chart disappeared without explanation
No figures available on how the new world class track and trace system is performing.
Still no info on number of persons tested daily.
Apart from that......

At the start of the 6 o’clock news it said there was 39,045 deaths in total. That’s 556 more than yesterday’s total. Hopefully they got it wrong.

Edit: You’re right, they said 111 but that doesn’t tie up with the total they quoted. Will have to wait for government figures.
