Summer Transfers

Would only buy Aouar if Gundogan leaves and he won‘t. If we still buy him - Foden should leave. Next year is the Euro and looking at Sancho he might consider that. We better go for a CB,LB(backup) and LW if Sané leaves.(maybe Braaf). The CM Position is definitely not a position where we are bad.

A 4 of Bernardo, KDB, Foden and Aouar is fine for the 2 forward midfield positions starts for all 4 players.Especially if Foden and Bernardo play some games as our wide attackers. Gudogan doesn’t need to go if he is just used in rotation with Rodri as our pivot.

Only one can happen this summer.
1)Keep Gundogan
2)Buy Aouar (or another midfielder)

What is best for the squad?

for me Gundogan would be the first out of the squad - imho he is a huge weakness against any of the top teams we play but others will disagree.

Before Covid 19 there were a lot of clubs looking at Gundogan, pace and age are irrelevant only quality means anything in the Italian league, and they saw a bargain, unfortunately wages are the new transfer fee and those options seem to have dried up, but we have to look at our failing this season, Laporte and Sane`s injuries, we do not just need a Sane replacement but a back up, a Laporte back up and a Rodri back up, Silva`s foreign/squad spot is going to be in higher demand else where

That's all well and good in hindsight, but Pep has chosen to select Gundogan over Foden as an 8 on many occassions and that temptation will still be there next season if he stays in addition to us signing Aouar.

It's an issue we've faced with Sane after signing Mahrez, whereby we have 4 top class players vying for 2 positions. It just doesn't work and one of them will be unhappy and push to leave. That player will inevitably be Foden.

KDB, Bernardo (he should be playing more centrally in my opinion), Foden and Gundogan is more than enough depth and also allows us to give opportunties to other younger players - or perhaps even someone like Zinchenko.

The big issue with Aouar is that his numbers are poor. Our 8's need to have big numbers in them in terms of goals/assists. IMO he has neither. In many respects if he came to City I feel he'd frustrate even more than Gundo has. He's a lovely footballer for sure, the kind Pep would love. But in the end I suspect that Foden would be much more impactful as an 8 and Aouar isn't the kind of 6 who would work in the PL.

I know that the stories are coming out of France and they seem well sourced. But my gut tells me we're really not in for him.

Wasn’t really having an opinion on Aouar in particular, I don’t really know a great deal about him. Was commenting more on numbers, and the fact we could keep Gundogan for a deeper role and have room for a new face in the forward midfield role, 4 for 2 positions would be best 3 leaves us an injury from being very light.

If thats the choice, keep Gundo. We can't go into the season with just Rodri at the six. If it were up to me though I would move Gundo on for a more dynamic option to compete with Rodri.

exactly

Gundo is no good further forward and as a 6 he is very average (good enough against your average prem team but against the better teams he is a liability - we need someone who is more dynamic and can actually tackle (which Gundo cant)
Ferna is still the best option there but I dont think we will ever see him there again unless its out of absolute necessity due to injuries.

If we wanted a true revolution in the midfield, selling Gundo and getting Aouar and Camavinga could be a shout.

KDB / Foden, Bernardo / Aouar as the 2 8's and backups - and dont forget Bernie and Phil can play wide with Rodri and Camavinga behind. Might help with a CB especially with Rodri being able to drop back. I think 6 mids for the 3 roles is ideal.

Both @Ezzy and @93.20blue said it was done, we even thanked Tevez and everything!

I'd be stunned if United sign this kid.

Almeda was at the campus with his agent last summer.

Think his club asked him to sign a new deal so they could then get some proper money for him.

I see no lure for a player such as Almeda choosing United over us.

When we play against poorer teams that aren't good and will only sit back and counter, we can afford to push the 8's up and attack more. We dominate possession and chances because they aren't good at holding the ball themselves. Against better teams Pep will usually play Gundo with Rodri because he wants ball control. He needs both of them to play out from the back trying to be more in a 4-2-3-1 against dangerous teams that press well and are good with the ball like Real Madrid for example.
It can stifle our attack more and you can criticize Pep if you want for this, but he wants to control the game as much as possible. Ball control=more possession=the opposition getting fewer chances. It can backfire and he can be overly cautious at times, but Gundo also has the ability to be a deep lying playmaker from a 4-2-3-1. There are some games in which he wants Gundo to be both 6 and a 8. If he sees we dominating a team in their half Gundo can go forward and be an 8 or get into the box himself. Of course he's not the best 8, but I believe this is why he gets chosen more then people would like.

If the papers are to be believed he addedaround 5 mill to his buyout clause ( no need to negotiate if he has a buyout of around £19mill really). He wanted to guarantee he would get his big move to Europe when the clubs come for him.
The 1 thing they would have as an ace in there pocket is Gabriel Heinz, if I'm not mistaken he is his manager.

Hope we do get him as he looks a talent.
