Pep's contract situation | 2 year extension confirmed! (pg1817)

Pep is simply the best coach in world football by a mile. The owners will not fall for this latest crap being peddled that he is a failure because he hasn't won the CL or that he's a failure because he's only ever won it with Messi and will do everything they can to keep him at City for as long as possible. I hope they succeed.

After Pep the only way is down and/or a gamble on a younger coach. Either way, we should try and keep him for as long as possible.

5 years is enough, he has done enough for this club. He has given this team an identity, made them better, changed the club culture, but ultimately, for City to move forward, they need to step up in Europe, and good as he is, maybe he just isn't the man to carry them forward season after.

Replacing him won't be as tough as some are making it out to be. Just need to make sure the decision isn't rushed and everyone is on board.

if it was Pochitino not winning a thing after 5 years, then maybe i would agree. but this guy is a trophy winning machine. there aren't that many around, if you hadn't noticed.
winning (not winning) the chumps lge, for me, is not a big issue. i have no faith in the integrity of the competition, and the football gamesmanship is woeful. not football i like to watch.
anyway, as long as he is happy and as long as we play great attacking exciting football, and also as long as we take trophies away from the red teams in the league, for me he stays.
i actually cant believe there is a debate on this forum about the future of PEP fucking GUARDIOLA as MCFC MANAGER. my mind is boggling!!!!

Why do we have no "Laugh at the lunatic" emojis on this new site? Definite oversight, @Ric

When you say “them”, don’t you mean “us”?

Why, why down?

We have one of the finest squad of players in world football, magnificent training facilities, an incredibly ambitious owner, becoming the manager/coach of Manchester City FC is a dream for 99.9% of the managers in the world.

Pep Guardiola is one the finest managers of his generation but there will be life after Pep, and there will be further success.

We have just said goodbye to the clubs finest player in David Silva, but we carry on, and we now possibly have the pleasure of one of our own taking that mantle in the coming years in Phil Foden.

Until Poch is given the same resources as Pep it will be impossible to know whether he can compete at the highest level.

I also highly doubt Pep could have done as good a job at Spurs as Poch did.
There’s a reason the biggest and best jobs in world football get offered to Pep and why Poch has been unemployed since leaving Spurs.
Also, what exactly did he do which Pep couldn’t replicate bar a CL final where they shit the bed?

Maybe, but with Pep it feels different.

Pep's the once in a generation manager, one of the all time greats. This may seem contentious but he's a better manager than any of our players are as players (barring maybe KDB). Replacing Pep will be like United trying to replace Ferguson or Real Madrid trying to replace Ronaldo (the recent one). You can get someone in who's actually really good, but it's highly unlikely they'll have the overall impact and quality of the previous incumbent. And unlike with players, there's not exactly a large pool of top managers to bring in and if they don't work out it's much harder to just get someone else like with a player.

There's a very good chance that whoever comes in after Pep won't reach the highs he achieved. HOWEVER that's not necessarily an awful thing. The next guy could still be absolutely high quality and still achieve great things for us. Luis Enrique never hit the highs Pep did at Barcelona but he still did phenomenally well there.

It took time for Bayern to get over him leaving but look now, quickly evolving into a young, exciting side.

True. I think the long term goal is for the effect of Pep to leave a side in place that's predisposed for greatness, as opposed to Ferguson who left a very leaky ship behind. That way we can have a run of not necessarily perfect managers and yet get back up eventually when we find the right one, like Bayern with Flick.

It is possible that we don't go backwards. Maybe we bring Arteta in and it turns out he is as good as some people thought. Maybe there's some young prodigy out there yet to be given a chance.

But I think it's unlikely it happens right away. Not unless we get Sam Allardyce in. Then we're set for 101 points.

Pep is the best at what he does. Only Zidane currently runs him close.

But Pep needs top players and huge financial resources to make it work. I don’t see that as a bad thing as working with those conditions brings an extra level of scrutiny that other managers never get. Also, we have those resources so he is the perfect man for us.

However, I don’t understand why people are so keen to play down the job Poch did at Spurs. He inherited a side that was a top 4 contender and turned them into top 4 regulars. He made them title challengers for a season and reached a CL final. All with a net spend of £50 million throughout his tenure.

Both Poch and Pep maximised the potential of their squads. The real difference is that after a poor season, Pep went out and bough Ederson, Walker, Laporte, Mendy, Bernardo and Jesus etc. Whilst Poch was never given the funds to kick on.

It might be that Poch turns out to be a manger who thrives at low pressure clubs and cannot hack the pressure of competing for all trophies. However, his work to date certainly suggests that he deserves a crack at a club with top resources.

I just find the argument that Poch hasn’t won anything to be lazy when you consider he has been competing with clubs with vastly superior resources. Pep has never had to compete with that.

You mean like we did against Lyon.

Why the fuck are we still talking about Pochetino? literally the only inkling of any sort of link is, he is unemployed, and as it stands pep has Only one season with us next.

That is some bloody creative arithmetic getting those 2 to add up to him being even a consideration for our next manager, let alone the right choice.

My preference would be Nagelsmann, his tactics seem to fit with the philosophy of the City project.
Be interesting to see if the 'City project' is agile enough to evolve and move with the times. If we keep falling short in Europe will we still appoint future managers based on the Barca Lite preference for a specific style of football.
