Pep's contract situation | 2 year extension confirmed! (pg1817)

Correct, and I wouldn't even call this season a "failure" anyway, most of the time our football has been the best in the PL, it's just had a number of games that failed to meet the high standard we'd set. Of the 9 PL defeats we should/would have won 5 had we put our chances away, Lyon obviously, the FA Cup semi, a couple of the rag games, and wolves were fails, but we did beat the new spanish champions twice 4 months apart, not an easy task by any means.

There's a lot of crap written in this thread recently.

There’s different spins to look at the season, I don’t think it’s been a success. We can’t win everything every year, I know that but a semi against arsenal and quarters against Lyon are poor exits. Lyon mainly due to the silly team/formation change. Regardless id extend his contract as long as possible, no matter the small issues overall he’s been incredible for us.

You'e white-washing a pretty poor set of results. A better defence would be to look back at Pep's CV and to comment on the real weakness we have at central defence which is not a problem Pep created.

We entered 5 competitions and won 2, and we were runners up in another, semi finalist and quarter finalists in the rest, most other clubs fans would think that a very good season, our problem is that in the previous 2 seasons, we've entered the same 5 competitions twice, so 10 in all, and won 7 of them, it doesn't matter who the coach is, that is a very hard standard to live up to.

For perspective 15 competitions, 9 won, in 3 seasons, this wasn't as good as the previous 2, but we still played some exceptional football, sadly we failed in 2 of the biggest cup games but that's cup gootball, and a few in the PL.

Oh Lordy! We cannot win anything by the midpoint of the season, so even if we were ahead in the League and in all Cups, that is no guarantee we wouldn’t be on the brink of yet another catastrophic failure of a season. And quite how you would measure ‘overall player morale’ is beyond me; show of hands in the dressing room? The support of the fanbase? Really? When there’s unlikely to be anyone in the stadium for months. “Sorry your Highness, Pep’s lost Bluemoon!”

If the last couple of seasons are anything to go by, our position in the league at the halfway point is an indicator of where we will finish by the end of the season as well. Guardiola can easily lose the dressing room as many managers have in the past and if the murmurs from the players are anything to go by many are already beginning to question some of his decision making. I'm sorry but the fans being in the stadium isn't the only way to gauge the support of the fans. Social media plays a huge role in determining whether the fans are behind the manager or not.

As a matter of interest, when did you find Manchester City ?

This is such a pathetic retort that has become a huge problem with many on this forum. If someone has an opinion that runs counter to the norm your first instinct is to call into question their fandom. Do one.

The murmurs also said that the bond between the players and the coach was still strong. Hence we do not need to worry about Pep loosing dressing room. Not to mention Pep is in very strong position with the board and the owners.

Assuming you don't want Guardiola, who do you want then?
There's no obviously realistic alternative. Overall, I hope Pep extends his contract but he's blemished his record at City. I still think he's a great coach but he is capable of errors of judgement.

The season has been unsuccessful and the coach has fallen short of past standards. In part we were dealt a bad hand with injury, but the Lyon game was a self-inflicted disaster, and should be called out as such.

great football is irrelevant if you end up with little. Charity shield doesn’t really count does it, we didn’t start our season to win the league cup, we’ve lost the fa cup and champions league to far inferior sides. Our 100 point season United came second and lost the fa cup final, second in two major comps, no one would say that was successful. We’ve had a bad year but we are allowed it considering what we’ve achieved. Time to regroup and go again

Yeah I agree with the @Marvin post fully. He still is the best way forward (by far) imo and I think next season if he wins the league + improvement in CL that would be enough for me...

It isn't to me, I go watch to be entertained, and for most of the season I attended I found it very entertaining.

I've never watched City expecting trophies, I always hoped, but was for the most part disappointed on that front, I've always wanted to be entertained, and for the most part haven't been disappointed (at least the really bad years we had comedy value).

The charity shield clearly isn't a priority, and I never go to it, but we enter it to win it. Yes the other 2 have been disappointing, but a very small number of clubs win the CL, and even had we beaten Lyon there is far from any guarantee that we'd have won it. We should have beaten Arsenal yes, but the better team on the day won (as in the CL), I accept that is what football is about, 2 teams may not be equal, but the less good team can still win (see Wigan in the FAC final), it's football.

that’s the kind of point of it for me, I don’t demand to win everything. We lost to a poor arsenal side without any fight. We lost to Lyon without much fight and we was never in a title race. Again I’m not expectant of everything but to lose gracefully at times. Arsenal played great football for years but won little, nothing goes down in history with how well you play.

I'm happy to take it as it comes, the enjoyment from the last 2 seasons was wonderful, but a bit disappointed this season, but I still enjoyed the EFL Cup final, it's how football works. We could support united, chelsea, or spurs, who had there normal trophyless seasons, arsenal won the FAC on merit, so fair play to them, everyone else won nothing apart from liverpool. 4 domestic trophies available, and we won half of them.

You’re perfectly entitled to your opinion, though I would imagine that it will hold little truck with the vast majority of long-suffering supporters. ‘Rumours’ and ‘Many’ are simply your attempt to spin your chosen position. I too have heard ‘strong rumours’ that Guardiola will soon sign a contract extension and that ‘all of the players’ are fully supportive and cannot wait to play. The next few years are going to be fun.

However, judging by the repeatedly negative posts you have made about Guardiola, ‘Pep is a huge coward’, and players, Ake ‘Not good enough’ , Laporte ‘ Seems to bottle it in the big games’, Sterling ‘ He has been beyond garbage for months now’ , Stones ‘is a coward’, and Angelino ‘is fucking shite’, maybe ‘supporting’ Manchester City is just not your forte. :-(

Except Marvin wanted him out under any circumstances 10 days ago.
I believe Pep should either extend his deal or go this Summer. I don't want him managing City without a long term commitment to the club but I want him to extend because overall I recognise that even with the blot on his copybook he's a great coach.

It isn't difficult to go through a persons post history to pick and choose things to help "spin your chosen position"

Although some seem to hide their post history :-(
