I quite like there being 2 threads tbh. Adds to the drama of the occasion.

Like, this is such a big deal it needs two threads!

Well if we ditch Jesus, we are then much more desperate for a cf than we are for Messi.

I'm not sure who we can guarantee to replace Jesus & for how much.

I think we are going to have to look at replacing the goals that Sergio scores year in year out anyway. I would like to hope that the club has succession planning on this. Not sure Gabriel is that player, who knows he maybe? It seems that the negotiating game with Barca will run and run with different stories, many of which, will be false coming out. Today the message is we don't want to include Jesus and Barca don't want him.

Messi, if he signs, will probably add 30+ goals per year. I would love the team to be built for the next five years plus but having already signed a 22 year old and a 24 year old and having Phil in the picture, should mean we have at least some sort of continuity. It boils down to the club wanting to do anything they can to win the CL in the next couple of years. Signing Messi gives us a chance of making that reality. I don't buy into those who say he hasn't done that with Barca in recent years. They have big holes in their lineup. We are a different proposition with many top pieces already in place, we just need that extra factor that could stop situations like against Lyon happening again.

Either way what a time to be a City fan - in my opinion this happening is what we needed, it kind of gets the juices flowing again. 2 to 3 more years of Pep, Sergio, Kev and Messi is something I only dreamed of.

Still disappointed he didn't pat Milner on the head as we went past him! ;)

The most amazing single thing about that is that 99 players out of 100 would have nutmegged Milner with their right foot, regardless of which their stronger foot is! Messi's balance is so perfect is that he just shifts it, casually, through Milner's legs with the outside of his left foot. A far more difficult thing to do, which takes absolute precision at speed. For some reason it makes me think, not of a footballer, but of some of the things you see Ronnie O'Sullivan do…

I doubt this transfer has suddenly come about in the last 10 days.
These sort of transfers take many months to negotiate & especially when you're dealing with the likes of Messi,so I'm guessing this has been on the cards for some time.
With the season ending late it sounds like Barca are trying to pull a fast one on Messi's contract to get a transfer fee.

The goals from Messi, Jesus, Aguero, Sterling, will be the factor which separates us from the rest imo.

Take out 20 goals from the total, not so big a difference anymore, compared to what we already had. Add Messi's goals, to Aguero, Jesus, Sterling & it's hard to see how we can not win most games, even if we had Otamendi, Zinchenko & Garcia in the team.

You would think that extra 20-30 goals must be the straw that breaks the camel's back for most teams that are taking points from us currently.

But it does rely on Messi & Aguero staying fit, for it to be that significant.

I'm actually really looking forward to Torres & Foden next season too, which is going under the radar.

Of course, like every City fan, I want to see Messi in a City shirt. Just would be a lot happier if we can tie down a deal for a world class centre half first. Give Messi a solid base to work in. He will love playing with Kevin.

Spot on - 100% agree.

right did my rounds this morning and what i can pick is from mates friends and internet is this is going to run on well into next week ? but one option i heard today is city are looking at maybe a loan for messi ? a £70million fee and wages will be paid in full by city and then city next summer will sign messi for another 2 years on a free ?

but like its been said everybody got the ITK and one of my contracts was the one that told me about the CAS report well before and he was spot on, so looking like next week and nothing is done or dusted nailed on yet but its closer than ever
and this time messi wants out

Do you seriously believe that we have stopped looking, just because of this one impending transfer ?

The loan thing is a clever idea tbf.

Allows them to save face. Euros would be better & Messi should take a pay cut, to thank us for rescuing him.

Barcelona are a joke, they remind me of that desperate girlfriend you dump who just can’t let go. In a frantic last attempt she makes up that she’s pregnant to get you to stay or to stall the situation so you reconsider. When really, you’ve already been talking to a much better looking, much more fun, younger bird. Who you’ve heard is absolutely cracking in bed.
All you want is your ex to F**k off out of your life for good and let you go. You know she ain’t pregnant, she’s just a desperate psycho.
That’s Messi’s situation with Barca right now.
it was interesting that khaldoon said this week that sergio can choose when he leaves as thanks for his long service,i love the way we let our oldies and legends choose what they do and when

Haven’t a clue how this will pan out in the end. Whether we’ll get him or not.
I was of the opinion at the start that this was part of the yearly game with Messi where he would ultimately end up staying at Barca.
But it seems now or never for him and he really is nailing his future colours to the mast, it would seem.

Seeing this I think we are playing it cool and properly. I don’t think our team would wish to leave him exposed with his arse out, but will have a cost and risk analysis done past which they won’t entertain Barca.

We have a great team that know what they are doing as I’m sure Messi does too.

However this turns out I think already the media exposure for City no matter how the usual suspects slant it, is nothing but a positive and will have put us up on a higher platform, that without him having signed yet.
Merely the suggestion that we are the only club Messi will join. His choice. The only place he would trust.
Let that sink in. They can try spin it any way they like. This and the CAS ruling are the biggest wins we’ve had this season.

This is a big kick in the teeth for our detractors.

Hi everyone and sorry for my terrible english.

I´m a Barça fan and a reader of this forum, because i like your club since the signing of Silva (and now i like it much more because Pep).

This is my opinion: you are going to sign Messi 100%. Because Messi wants to live the club, he´s decision is firm, he needs a new challenge, he knows the talent of Pep and is a Kun Aguero´s close friend. And the most important thing, you are the only club wich meets to fundamental conditions: have the chance to win important trophies and have the money to pay him.

My opinion, too: he´s not going to leave for free, he´s not right about his contract issue. And nobody is going to sing him in this conditions and risk for a vey expensive penalty. And there is another issue: the FFP. You have to lose some salaries to can afford his signing.

So, the only way is an offer with cash and players. Minimum two players and maximum 3. What players are interesting for FC Barcelona and no crucial for you? García, Gabriel Jesús and Bernardo. May be Cancelo, but probably not.

Probably, you may think you have much more power in the negotiation. And is 80% true. But this is not a normal transfer. Messi is the biggest legend in the history of the club and the person who sells him will be a real villain for all his live. So is gonna be a tought negotiation, and if Man City doesn´t do the correct offer, Bartomeu will be happy to reject it. And Messi can stay and change his mind because in march we will have elections and a new board.

And what is a proper offer to me? García, Bernardo and Gabriel and a small amount of money (20m?) or García and Gabriel and more money (80-100?). You can think is too much because he´s age and the difficult situation for our board. But remember that it´s not a normal player, he´s the symbol of the club, of the city and our hero. For less than that the fans will burn the Camp Nou and they probably will in any case. So i think you will sign him but it won´t be easy.

And my third opinion: a transfer to City is the best for all, Barça, City and Messi.

Post data: the song has to be "you´re my wonder Goat".
I guess this changes your idea of acceptable player exchanges?
