As a club why would you want a player on your books that wants out, costs a fortune in wages and can walk for free next season ? Surely you would want to at least get something for him now whilst you still have a chance ?
Apparently not. Costs them a €75m bonus if he stays till the end of the contract. Sorry, can’t remember where I read it, but if true, makes the apparent decision to cling on even more barmy.

The only journalist we should be listening to for news is Marcelo Bechler, Broke the news messi wanted to leave before everyone last week, broke the news that he chose city. Also the first journalist to report where Neymar was going, hes the journalist we should listen to.

Where's the fun in that ?

Messi needs to make a decision, if he wants Barca to have a good revenue from his sale or he wants City to get him as cheap as we can, there is no middle ground.

Feeling a bit like for him it would be very good if we would put down 200m cash fee for Barca plus his salary. Even if it causes serious issues for us for ffp maybe.

City's interest is what needs to be priority here not that Messi wants to leave in a friendly way whatever that means after this saga.

we need to play this clever and try to manouver Messi towards that free clause rather than keeping Barca happy with some player transfer and large cash to be paid as transfer fee.

I would rather have it all go to court and Fifa intervene and set a price 50m pounds than us paying 100m and give players in return to keep relations nice and happy...

We cannot be naive, Barca would lobby the shit out of uefa if they had an option to ban us from CL with it..

If Messi really wants a good revenue for Barca too because he is that nice, he will have to join City for zero salary and the salary we would have paid to him in 2 years we can offer that as transfer fee.

Then he would be really nice to Barca thats a middle ground.

As another poster commented above, it’s not a good look for Barca to be seen to be pushing Messi out. But do you feel this situation has been preempted by Bartomeu as a way of shifting Messi whilst taking advantage of the ambiguity of the contract terms to make a few quid, and making it look like Messi is pushing for the move?

The ‘no privileges’ meeting with the new manager and the treatment of Suarez look provocative.

This is a President implicated in Barcagate for hiring I3 to disseminate social media attack bots against players (And their wives) as well as board critics (Journalists & fan accounts) - so nothing can be ruled out

Your theory is out there along with another where Rosell allegedly is courting Neymar again (The other story that never seems to die). It's about money at the end of the day for this board so everything they do is with that on their mind

Early in Rosell's tenure, they modified club statutes to suit their purpose in a variety of ways, not the least of which was making it more difficult to hold them accountable - it gave them latitude/loop holes to maneuver within those parameters to ensure continuity. A license to rule with impunity and armed with Grupo Godo.

On the positive side, there is growing support among club members & factions to censure Bartomeu - it's one way to pressure change.

The other is for Messi to take to the courts in an ugly battle while Barto sits back to vilify the new Figo

His exit was always going to be painful for fans but keeps getting bleaker

Based on nothing but my own gut instinct, anyone else enjoying all this Messi stuff but feel that ultimately, Messi will leave us with egg on our faces and stay at Barcelona ?
I certainly think if he leaves Barcelona then he'll come to City but this nagging doubt that he'll end up staying at Barcelona won't leave me.
Fcuk it, like everyone else, i have no real idea what's happening haha

I have a gut feeling messi is never going to play a single game under Ronald Koeman, it just doesn't seem right, so either Koeman gets sacked or Messi joins us.
In fact I think he was brought to push Messi out.

The kippa
He got a much bigger turnout than Messi when they transfer listed him though.
The Kippax was chocca for his first match.
He was a special player, some exciting times, his first touch and passing was incredible, never fit though. I must have been easily impressed as a 12 yr old.

I don't think we can reliably gauge Barcelona's intent at the moment.

I think their best move would be to negotiate what they can for Messi, otherwise they lose the player in a few months and it overshadows their season.

From City's point of view we're likely to get Messi for about £100m now, or on a free in the Summer. It's a shame because time is not on the player's side. You'd like to think that Barcelona will do the right thing for the player and also for their own self interest. Do you really want to alienate a key player and for what 6 months?

do you not think there is any chance of Messi feeling the pressure and doing a u-turn?

Im struggling to see how this gets done in the next week or two if your chairman refuses to do any business at all beyond saying that any club must pay the get out clause.

Messi wont strike/refuse to train - he wouldnt risk his reputation

The only way he gets out is if he can contractually leave...someone is wrong on this part - its either Messi's advisors or the clubs advisors

thing is waiting another season is no good for us or Messi - it doesnt really benefit barca either if they have a very disgruntled player on their hand especially one so powerful

I know people said it's frowned upon but if it got nasty enough could Messi buy himself out of his contract using the Webster ruling? It seems Bartomeu is digging his heels in so much that he is going to look ridiculous if he backs down and he seems the type to damage the club rather than that. If Messi can then can't he threaten that. The majority of fans seem to understand his position and are backing him rather than Bartomeu. Just wondering.
