Is left back really a problem?

Mendys injury has ruined him. I've kept hoping he is gonna return to roughly what he was, but he can't defend, he can't attack, he isn't comfortable on the ball, he can't concentrate and is no where near as fast as he was. I've pleaded with people to give him time but its killing us at the back. Ake was brilliant today considering he was covering lb, lcb and rcb as well as stepping into midfield. Sorry benjy but its back up left back for you this season and sold next year. Devastated for you as a person cos it ain't lack of effort its just a horrid injury has ruined your top flight career.

We gave away a penalty because Mendy let the defender get the wrong side of him. I mean it was a bullshit penalty, but that doesn't mean it wasn't also bad defending. If they didn't have a diving cheat playing for them, he would have still been in on goal.

Come on mate he was dreadful in possession before that barring one decent cross to Delap. The brainless foul was merely the cherry on top of a shit performance. One too many from him, we need far better.

Yeah he was not good, but picking Mendy out of that game is just lazy, I'm not sure he even cracks the top 5 of our biggest issues in this game.

Walker had a worse game. Garcia had a worse game.

It was vardys second that left me fuming. Didnt even see a run inside him whilst looking at the player doing it.

New LB is a huge must unless cancelo is going there long term this season

Walker has far more good games than he has bad whilst Mendy is just flat out bad most the time

Yeah but Walker's usually good apart from the occasional fuck up. Garcia was good post-lockdown, and considering he's a 19 year old who was 5th choice at the start of the season, you can't be too harsh.

Honestly can't remember the last good game Mendy had. When was his last assist? When was he our standout defender? I know its injuries but we can't have a passenger.

But this isn’t just about this game. He’s not very good at defending and the offset of being good going forward seems to have been lost somewhere in Cugat’s surgery.

Txiki and co need to find someone as first choice. They also need a central midfielder that can run, tackle and pass.

Still days to go, a left back can be sorted. Please City, we need it.

I'm baffled at our scouting for full backs. How is it that Leicester managed to sell Chilwell for £50m and got Castagne from Atalanta for €24m, a player comfortable at both right and left back, and he has assisted or scored in each of his appearances so far. Could we not have seen this? It is so disappointing.

Thing is, we rarely make these transfers. The club are obsessed with the latest shiny toy when it comes to fullbacks or centre backs. More often than not, they are worse than what was "expected".

Never like hyped players.

Just the obvious players fans could scout.

It’s incredible though that we didn’t look at this and think we need to sort this out.

Zinchenko seems an easy move. He does well internationally and it should be simple to loan him to free up the space. But a central midfielder that can run, pass and tackle is just as important for our needs.

We need to start being more critical of the board & scouts. A huge chunk of our defensive signings haven't worked out, and we've spent big big money. I know we've had 2 unbelievable seasons, but we've not had a good LB for as long as I can remember.

This policy will have to change, it cannot continue like this. Several clubs have scouting departments that seek out top talent, yet we only realise it a year later. We could have had scouts tell us about a Koundé last year, available for €25m, but no, it had to be his season at Sevilla for an alleged interest and them to say pay the €90m clause or its nothing.

I don't think we buy bad players, but full backs is a massive issue, costing us evidently now. At least for right back it'll be sorted when Cancelo is fit, do not understand how they expect to last a season with just Mendy at left back or Aké. If Cancelo plays there it would yet again leave Walker starting and without competition when he clearly needs resting and some time off to regain his fitness and form.

Our general policy seems to be we work at the bottom, unproven end of the market to sell for profit via the CFG or a self capped £40-65m amount. We’re not comfortable going into the higher bracket for seemingly wanting to manage the media narrative about our spending.

I don’t know who is a better LB than Mendy but it must be a fairly long list based on the version we have now. They need to get busy before the deadline.
