I will see you that and raise you this one. Though, if I were a cynic, I would say there may have been brown envelopes or threats against one's family involved in this one.

I would suggest Glyn Pardoe (much better than Donachie) and for a limited period, Andy Hinchliffe. It has always been a problem position.

Glyn was a good player but remember he was converted to full back by Malcolm Allison and Joe Mercer. He started as a centre forward/winger but he was horrIbly slow. He was an excellent full back. He was prior to Donachie if my memory serves which is why I said Willie was the last.

Mendy was excellent when we got him and still decent this season once he had recovered from his injury it’s just people don’t want to remember or care about that and instead focus on his injuries and recovery period and the two games where he fell asleep for a split second and cost us but was actually playing well Zinchenko has done better than anyone expected in the position and is very solid and technical he is just not very exciting Angelino is performing at a high standard in a very good league just not played here and not rated at left back but is at left wing back this is some what unfair look at his highlights defending ask people to name specific mistakes he has made and you do not really get an answer Ake could play left back Cancelo has finally come good at left back not his chosen position.

There are few left backs of any quality anywhere.

Would rather any of our left backs than Chilwell based on how he got done by Mahrez I don’t think I have seen any of our left backs ever perform as badly as he did even Mendy after injury

Have you forgotten Mendy getting done by Traore. It was painful to watch.

The biggest issue with Mendy imo (and it was exactly the same with Kolarov) is that he loves to get up and join the attack but he isn’t keen on getting back in position if we lose the ball leaving us vulnerable to the counter. Kolarov left Lescott exposed dozens of times and Mendy does the same thing to Laporte.

Space is a lesser issue, it's his fitness and trust in his body after ACL injury to both knees. Else him going up and down isn't an issue, all quality full backs or wing backs in modern football do it, they are expected to, it's a demanding position, and it is exactly why I have not quite understood why Angeliño isn't being kept, yes he's defensively naff but who cares, if the backline is stable he will be a great asset and he impacts nothing on the foreign spots as he is club trained. More importantly, an important backup to Mendy.

Angelino can’t defend. Zinchenko can’t defend. Mendy still haven’t found his Monaco form. I saw a glimpse of his quality against Liverpool but he need real competition so he can get back up to his top level.

I’m hugely impressed with Nicolas Tagliafico from Ajax. Great crosses, strong when defending and poses a threat on set-pieces. He seem very strong in the air despite his height. I think we could get him quite cheap as well. Surprised Chelsea didn’t get him. Would’ve cost half of Chilwell and he’s even the better player.

He does look good but there is a worry that he is a man playing in a little boys league? why, it was a league that Angelino excelled. In recent times we have let a LB move to Arsenal, a LB move to liverpool A player that can play LWB move to utd Bayern buy a player that has turned into a world beater, all would have improved us and cheaply, good LB`s are thin on the ground now, think it is going to be Cancelo and Mendy next season

Yeah I like Tagliafico too, unfortunately just seen him quoted to Leicester for £40m since they're seeking a Chilwell replacement, if he was sold to another league his old price would have been relevant, €25-30m that is. But now they've seen what Chilwell has gone for and upped their asking price. Usual business.
