GM scoreboard:

Manchester is top, of course, with 333 cases down from 378. Total cases 12, 958. Pop score up 60 to 2344. Closing in on Oldham as worst in GM.

However, it was overtaken by Liverpool today which had a mammoth 609 cases and its pop score went up a huge 122 to 2376 - and has fast tracked into the now fourth worst in UK. But all but certain to be third tomorrow.

Bradford had 262 cases, Birmingham 245.

Knowsley added just 167 - but that is huge for such a small area so its pop score rose by 110 to the highest in the UK at a staggering 2561.

Wigan 170 - down from 179. Clings on to an unwanted second spot. Total cases 5422. Pop score up 62 to 1650.

Stockport 159 - up from 118. Closest it has been to Wigan in a long time. Total cases 4127. Pop score up 54 to 1406 after just two days in the 1300 club. Lost ground on Trafford here for first time in ages. Lead now down to 148.

Bolton 157 - up even further from 109. Total cases 6343. Pop score up 55 to enter the 2200 club at 2206.

Rochdale 135 - up from 129. Total cases 4872. Pop score up 61 to 2191.

Trafford 120 - up from 115. Total cases 3689. Pop score up 50 to 1554.

Salford 110 - well down from 167. Total cases 4738. Pop score up 42 to 1830.

Oldham 99 - down from 147. Total cases 5683. Pop score up 42 to 2397.

Bury 89 - down from 109. Total cases 3806. Pop score up 47 to 1993.

Tameside 73 - down fron 82 and now the best performing borough in GM in recent days. Four singke figure totals in this week. Nobody else has managed more than 2. Total cases 4156 . Pop score up 33 to 1835 - lowest rise of the day.
 
I'm in oldham. We have had 3 staff test positive in the last week. Had none between March and September.
But you just have to carry on.

labour would not have done any better as they would have had the same civil servants and the exact same SAGE specialists and the same people running the NHS and PHE . Unless of course kier could depart from the scientific advice.

however where boris has totally fucked up Is Comms.

the communication throughout this has been dreadful. Winging it , flowery language. Flip flopping all the time.

people just lose confidence.

compare with the tartan fuhrer . She has done pretty much the same things as the Tories and in fact I think they have performed no better or even worse on a per capita basis .

the difference is she provided clear guidance using language which is precise , consistent and regular. It gives confidence and trust,

waffle, ambiguous language and using long words impresses nobody and just makes people think you haven’t a clue.

Seriously, what the fuck has Brexit got to do with any of this? For all you know, that conspiracy theorist may well have voted Remain, and if you want to go down that route it’s the younger age groups who have been most responsible for spreading this virus during this second wave, plenty of whom have ridden roughshod over the guidelines. Perhaps you can remind us all which way the majority of that age group voted in the EU Referendum.
That aside, there are Covidiots and conspiracy theorists in every age group. As for fully sympathising with young people and students who want to “go out and enjoy themselves”, well cry me a fucking river. That generation still have their whole fucking lives ahead of them once this is over yet they deserve the most sympathy for not being able to go out and do the things they want to do? Jesus wept

I agree with what you say about
Communications.

I think Labour would have done better on track and trace because they weren’t ideologically opposed to involving local authorities and local Public Health Teams. The track and trace couldn’t be done effectively without them and the Government has learnt this very late in the day. I don’t rate Labour either btw but the response required better suited them.

The public servants probably should have spoken up when local public health capacity and capability were being undermined but Councils were facing 30% budget cuts during this time.

The Government have done pretty well in trying to protect jobs.

IMO anyone with a bit of common sense who could see what was happening in Italy and Spain back in March would have closed down two weeks earlier.
Could have saved 30k lives.

I've no idea if Labour would have done any better, but I don't think they could have done worse. All the gifting of contracts to incompetent tory pals surely wouldn't have happened for one.

In terms of comms, you get the impression that Sturgeon actually gives a shit and isn't a compulsive liar at very least. That does matter to people. Boris Johnson is a despicable human being and a compulsive liar only out for himself and his cronies. Terrible comms is due to a lack of ability and most importantly a lack of empathy. He doesn't know how to connect to people on an actual human level, other than when being a clown fucking about, so he just can't get through to them. None of his team can as they lack an actual heart. So bored of being patronised and gaslighted by his lot. Fuck em.

fair point on track and trace but again I am not sure whether that’s a central PHE decision or govt, I don’t know .

everyone seems power mad on this, I would gladly delegate it if I was PM!!!
