You just find the most negative article you can and go with that, that’s fine some people thrive on doom and gloom. The reality is it’s not 1%, it can’t be from what we know.

No, I'm just reporting what the scientific community has found, and I suggested a commonest range of 0.5 - 1% The article covered a number of studies, not one. If I wanted to cherry pick I could easily have done so. They reported IFR 0.9% as a best estimate for the UK. Live with it.

In June and July, thousands of people across England received a pinprick antibody test in the post. Of the 109,000 randomly selected teenagers and adults who took the test, some 6% harboured antibodies against SARS-CoV-2. This result was used to calculate an overall IFR for England of 0.9% — or 9 deaths in every 1,000 cases. The IFR was close to zero for people between the ages of 15 and 44, increasing to 3.1% for 65–74-year-olds and to 11.6% for anyone older

My daughter, heavily pregnant at the time, had a few sniffles, snotty nose etc,got a bit paranoid and booked herself in for a test(she's only 17....I know,I know).
The day she booked herself in,she went into labour, was whizzed in hospital and had the baby(a boy.....a blue,I'll make sure of that.)
After she arrived home,a couple of days later, she got a text saying her test was negative......SHE NEVER HAD IT DONE.
This needs looking into as so many people are saying it's happened to them.

The problem is as I see it the answer is probably both at the extreme ends of the problem, full lockdown/fuck it and see what happens. Neither are going to be expectable so it’s just a question of the best compromise.

Test and Trace is useless.
I simply fail to understand why penalty clauses are not in the contracts with logistics and testing firms. PHE testing s a bag of shit too.
Then there is the problem with quarantine.
Less than 25% properly quarantine. A further 50% break quarantine on a few occasions and 25% don't bother at all. If quarantine isn't fixed a "circunit breaker" or 'red zone"rules simply won't work.

I am in despair right now. As soon as these “measures” were announced it was obvious they were not enough. Even the tier 3 restrictions that I am in right now are not enough to make any difference to the r number. They will change nothing. We live in a country that is occupied by obscene numbers of imbeciles, tier 3 restrictions should be the bare minimum even in places that are currently in medium risk. Yet they are our top level of measures. It’s truly absurd. Nobody is following them. It needs to be infinitely tougher.

I would agree but honestly, there’s so much anger out there that any tougher restrictions will result in riots and mass protests soon.

I think we’ve got these tiers for a few weeks then the circuit breaker thing. After that the public won’t stand for more. Is my guess.

Had this shared with me today a pub in liverpool offering pizza slices to get around the closures.

Then the public need to understand what a pandemic is and that nobody said it would be easy. It’s like people think they are having their lives inconvenienced for no reason. We are too stupid a country to avoid the disaster heading our way. We had our respite over the summer... now it’s a long, long winter and people need to realise it quickly.

if they don’t get it by now. They never will. Most ignore the news and are anti Goverment ‘’they’re all the same’’

so we’ve got no hope with some.

I don’t know if I’ve just got mellow as I’ve got older I just stick to the rules, it fucks my social life up a lot but I’m on the plus side can’t remember when my finances were so healthy, due to the fact I can’t go out and spend it, if everyone does that bit more it’ll get a bit better imho

20%-30% of people under the age of 30 couldn't give a shit about anyone else and don't see why they should protect others. Its only like the flu to them.

Yep, it’s depressing. It’s not even a difficult concept for them to understand that whilst they are incredibly unlikely to die themselves from covid-19, or even get seriously ill, they are no less able to spread it to others more vulnerable. I just can’t fathom how they don’t get it. Or if they do get it, why they don’t care for loved ones. They must all detest their families.

If betfair opened a market as to when the first vaccine was approved for use in the Uk, we would all have better idea as to when it was likely.
Not bound to be right of course, but would be a lot more informed than random articles in the press.

Yep. I remember reading articles which speculated that the Oxford Uni one would have been available THIS October. I've heard some say another full year from now and others say in the next few months. Haven't a clue when we should expect one.

Young people will always tend towards risk taking behaviour. It's a studied fact that a major neurological structure involved in assessing and avoiding risk isn't formed until well into their twenties. It's an evolutionary thing. They are meant to use this age to socialise and take risks to secure partners, social contacts, status. The evolutionary advantages of being cautious pay off much more later in life, and so that's why we all end up looking back our younger selves and scratching our heads at the stunts we pulled.

Human nature notwithstanding, the authorities could have done a lot more to talk to them. Well targetted messages do work. I think it's important to reinforce that obviously there will be more chances in the future to go out and have fun, and the more effort we put into the little things now, the sooner they can come.

But it's only one example of our overall failure to communicate clear and well judged ideas and advice.

There has to be some way of talking to us all and saying, in the best possible way, it's down to us as individuals. If the rate goes up, the govt have literally no choice but to act. The more work we put in as individuals in doing our part, the sooner the restrictions are lifted. Although there's no guarantee that will be all that soon, every avoidable transmission takes it further away. Ask for patience and understanding from people, and they respond. You have to ask earnestly and without fear. It's no good for me, Boris doing his usual, well, I don't even understand the rules, haha what what chaps. That's not leadership, it seriously dilutes the non-verbal, contextual message that people take away from it. It's like ....someone not looking you in the face. They are not buying what they are selling, for want of yet another way of putting it. And that's just down to Boris' character, sadly, he really isn't one to risk unpopularity by asking for serious commitment, appealing to conscienciousness. Many other leaders would get a better response, just from them having a different style.

Still, the lack of targetted TV or online ads, or public information on various things, just baffles me. Like we're not even trying, for some reason.

Which is a shame, because some research suggests that a number of the young people who catch this disease may be facing long term debilitating problems. Has anyone told them that? That it's not just enough to say, our age range don't die. It's not just about the risk of death. It's long term damage. And at the moment, we definately can't rule out young people being succeptible to that.
