We are staying in a small, family run hotel in Grange. In the same hotel are a couple from Darwin(a very high area). Should we say something to management? Both Mrs Q and I are in the 70‘s and over bracket; as everyone else in the hotel is. MrQ doesn’t want to make a fuss but I an concerned.
Lancashire only went into tier 3 yesterday so it’s possible they were already at the hotel? In which case, they could hardly kick them out. Personally I would just keep my distance.

Yes, the rules allow people to complete their holidays if they have gone away before eg the tiers changed.
It’s an awful situation to be in. My son has gone away, from Friday, for a much needed break with his girlfriend to a cottage in the middle of nowhere in the lakes. We are Stockport. He had a message from the agency he had booked with, Cottages.com, at the beginning of last week, to say if Grt Mcr went into tier 3 his booking would be cancelled. Up until Friday morning, he pretty much didn’t if he’d be going or not.

Are gyms now the only way to exercise? All I see on social media is gym goers playing the mental health card. Exercise helps with mental health because it releases endorphins. And there are a million different ways to release endorphins, you don’t HAVE to be in a gym for that.

I agree however for a few it’s also a social aspect, mixing in classes for example, helps keep them going, not everyone who goes to a gym stands lifting weights, there’s spin classes, Yoga is excellent for mental health and well-being, day that’s the only class you go to and having that taken away from you.

When I say mixing I mean just being around people with similar needs. Not everyone is comfortable doing weights etc.

Apologies but i'm amusing myself by reading your posts in the style of dale winton. Theres something about a spin class that puts me in mind of him. No offence Im easily amused

Gyms are way more than just exercise.
I’ve ran a lot this year instead of going to the gym but i miss it immensely. I had a lot of friends there that that I’ve missed for much of this year.
And yes, the classes too (my back’s been playing up since stopping yoga which also helped with my well being).
I cannot exercise in front of a zoom call on the living room floor...just not the same.

I chucked in my membership, YouTube fitness challenges and running outside , much more worthwhile. For me anyway.

If a thousand people from the disease ridden hotspot of Darwin are in the hotel with you, 8 of them would likely test positive, so you’ll probably be fine.....
Mind you, if you’re that worried you could always just go home.

if your a young woman in a City perhaps you feel more safe exercising in a gym especially with long dark winter nights ahead? I guess you are also lucky and dont have to play the mental health card.

Makes sense.

You living in Sweden?

The impression I have is whilst the rules are somewhat laxer in Sweden, they are observed by far more of the population. Interested in your perspective.

Also, what's the situation with universities over there? Have they gone back normally?
I think most importantly the rules have been the same from day 1.

Rules:
Gatherings of more than 50 have been banned.
Table service only in bars and restaurants and 2m distancing between groups.
No general entry to Sweden from outside the EU.
Novisits to care homes, hopital wards etc.
All have stayed the same since march.

Advice:
Stay home if you are ill (at all).
They have changed the sick pay rules so you get it from day 1, where before you didn't get the first day.
Masks still aren't manitory - mostly because it sends the wrong message imo- you shouldn't be out and about if you're feeling ill.
In the spring they advised people in Stockholm not to travel outside the city and that seemed to work. Data from mobile phone masts showed a drop in travel.

Schools were closed in the spring for over 16s but tnow they are open again,

Support for companies that furoughed staff was improved so that a lot of people on lower pay kept 80-90% of their wage.

Universities are back, with a mixture of on-line lecures and labs/tutorials in groups.

I think people are following the rules. Perhaps because they're not too restrictive and they have stayed the same. People know whats what.

Having said that, they've just introduce a new rule for Stockholm - if someone you live with feels ill, you should stay home as well. Work from home if you can, if you can't you get an "infectious disease" payment.

Looking from the outside in, the UK looks a mess. You need more of this:

Vaccines and November more and more evident when typed in google. Just need to stand firm for a few more months and we will have this under control.

Plans already in place for December roll out, I believe. Might be best giving to the royals first, which might encourage take up amongst the elderly and at risk?

Being anti-royalist I'm fully supportive of your suggestion but, it'd tell us nothing as lizard blood isn't the same as human.

I was reading about the Oxford vaccine which is being produced for no profit. They have said the pandemic will be officially over by the beginning of July. I would imagine after that they can start charging for it.

Pfizer one looks like pole position at the moment, Novavax sounds like the one with the biggest potential but further back on trials.
