good to hear that from SWP back I missed that post.
If we all just waited for the science before we posted this thread would be an awful lot shorter.
well, the government isn't waiting for it so why should we...

The government's secretive Covid contracts are heaping misery on Britain | George Monbiot
Bypassing the NHS and handing crucial services to corporate executives has led to the catastrophic failure of test and trace, says Guardian columnist George Monbiotwww.theguardian.com
Baffles me and im like a broken record. The vulnerable arent being shielded but most importantly of all they really arent shielding themselves. It’s really in locally in North Manchester at the minute.
2 of my mates dads have got it, 1 is in intensive care.
Brother and gf had it just out of isolation.
5 of my mates have currently got it and some of their immediate family no doubt have it too.
I really don’t understand how old and vunerable people aren’t being told to isolate/shield, the shops, pubs and restaurants are full of them.
keeping away from my parents, drop anything i need to at the bottom of the drive etc
I suppose it depends on age and how at ease they are with dying. If I was 90 I don’t think I’d want to be shielding but if I was 50 and classed as vulnerable I would.Baffles me and im like a broken record. if i was of an age/condition that i knew this may finish me off i wouldnt leave the house.
but i drive past a deli in bramhall most days and its always busy with the older people. Mental
Yes but if you were 50 and vulnerable you may have a family, job, business, mortgage to keep going, or you may work in an essential service. So unless paid and your job kept safe how do you sheild yourself.I suppose it depends on age and how at ease they are with dying. If I was 90 I don’t think I’d want to be shielding but if I was 50 and classed as vulnerable I would.
If they’ve lived a happy life, consider seeing family/friends and doing what they enjoy as worth the risk then so be it. I understand this may put others at risk but if they’re of an age where you could drop dead anytime I can understand them not wanting to spend the last year(s) of their life locked up indoors.
Yes, I saw that. Costed until the end of the financial year. Lets hope they were working on the worst case scenarioJust watched the Burnham press conference properly
says he requested £90m as he expects it cost £15m per month
so Gov must be expecting Tier 3 to run for the rest of the financial year, April 2021
Won’t be an economy left after that

Some of that could be coincidence or just tenuous links. But the secrecy, obvious nepotism and clear lack of accountability later on in the article stinks to high heaven. Not good at all.If this is all true, then its frankly ASTONISHING:

Get you totally. My mum has terminal lung cancer at 71. Be lucky to last til xmas. Where as shes careful to a point , c19 is also the least of her worries.I suppose it depends on age and how at ease they are with dying. We pay them. Keep them safe. Let everyone else keep the economy going and any one with any of the traits that put u at a risk if u get covid you get financially looked after.Yes but if you were 50 and vulnerable you may have a family, job, business, mortgage to keep going, or you may work in an essential service. How many working people are we talking about? Where do you draw the line, diabetes. weight, asthma , ethnicity? We pay them. Keep them safe. Let everyone else keep the economy going and any one with any of the traits that put u at a risk if u get covid you get financially looked after.
if you are over a certain age youll still get your pension or if you are on benefits due to your condition then that wont change anyway.
Otherwise we look after you financially
Not one country is a success either!!How many working people are we talking about? Where do you draw the line, diabetes. weight, asthma , ethnicity?
What if these people works as doctors, nurses ,carers, essential services. Self employed, who dose their jobs, are their jobs kept open for them. What does keep them safe mean, keep them at home , what about their family and children are they kept at home too so it doesn't get brought into the home?
Saying shield the vulnerable and let the rest get on with it is a non starter, probably why not one country has tried it.
New Zealand, South Korea pretty much. Quite a few far more succesful than us. As I said the reason nobody does it is it's far more complicated than it sounds,it's just a bland statement that is meaningless when you look down into what it really entails. Not one country is a success either!!

I know mate and agree that that number is not in itself alarming, but it's the upward trajectory which is concerning and the fact that any measures we introduce won't turn the daily deaths supertanker for another 3 or 4 weeks. About a month ago, Witty said unless we were to act we'd be at 200 deaths per day by mid November, and here we are in mid October seeing those kind of numbers already, and this after we DID introduce more measures. My point was about 240 deaths not being sobering. There are times of year when that many people die of flu but nobody blinks twice when that happens
