COVID-19 — Coronavirus

The ones that seriously need to be named and shamed are those who deliberately ignore the rules. They are doing more damage to the country than overweight people.
I agree about people ignoring the rules but as a fat fooker I realise I have to do more. I was on a ten mile hike across Ilkley Moor yesterday and I’ve been cutting back on the booze.

Anything that makes it more difficult for the virus to spread and / or damage people can be a good thing.

Of course, but singleing out us lardies when there are others doing much more damage was what got me to post about it.

France yesterday reported 52,000 new cases.

A report I saw suggested the real rate is 100k a day. I don't know where they get that from because the UK infection survey suggests that in the UK only 1 in 4 new cases are being reported, and the UK tests a lot more people than they do in France.

Is this a blip? Their doubling time is about 9 days.

Whilst your on your high horse, should we also shame

Smokers
Druggies
Alchololics
We already do shame those.

Smokers have to stand outside to have a cig and on the side of their cig packets are horrendous pictures of cancerous lungs and children inhaling smoke. We tell them they stink, we tell them their teeth are brown, over the past few decades a stigma has certainly been attached to smokers.

Drug addicts and alcoholics have been social outcasts for decades.

But fat people, we have to embrace them and make sure we aren’t offending them. There are no pictures of shrivelled dying hearts on the side of sweet packets or clinically obsessed six year olds who can’t get out of bed on the side of a packet of crisps... but there should be!

I won't disagree, but thinking this is the Covid thread, I thought you were simply highlighting obesity as being the key problem.

I would add, there are instances where obesity is as a result of an underlying medical issue rather than over indulgence.

Not related to covid
And can you imagine if it was Covid related. If we knew that smoking, taking drugs and drinking too much made your chances of dying of Covid greater. We’d never hear the last of it. There’d probably be a ban within a week. Yet the government know that obesity is a factor but don’t seem willing to publicise it too much.

Those three addictions indirectly affect covid by consumption of needed medical resources.

Well, I would imagine having fucked up lungs through smoking, fucked up liver through alcholol abuse and fucked up everything from drug abuse does contribute to your resilience to covid

Other than druggies, the others both get taxed to high heaven which helps pay the medical fees caused by abuse of alcohol and fags. There is enough negative info around the dangers of all of those, whereas fatties are tiptoed around through fear of upsetting them. Maybe it's a lack of education about the dangers of being fat, maybe they're just lazy and greedy either way you shouldn't let yourself get to that state. Gastric bands on the NHS FFS.

i read a study that concluded the pull of resources on the NHS from smoking and drinking related problems outweighed the taxes generated from them (and certainly the direct NHS funding, which is even less).

There is also enough negative info about being overweight. Not everyone who is overweight can simply diet and exercise.

I agree that for the majority, gastric bands paid for by public funds is wrong

When was the last time you heard of 13/14 year olds killing themselves over being shamed for smoking/drinking?

Its happening a lot with body shaming.

Personally I was bullied for years as a kid due to being overweight as a kid but I had medical issues preventing exercise.

while health is a big issue, "fat shaming" isn't the way forward. Also, asking smokers to smoke outside isnt' "Shaming" its preventing people dieing from them smoking near them.

Show a bit of empathy ffs. Some people battle with depression and comfort eating is their go to, which might put a smile on their face at the time but ultimately contributes to longer term damage and suffering. It's a vicious circle but this 'lazy and greedy and shouldn't let themselves get to that state' is an absolutely sickening way to talk about people. What's easy to you might not be so easy to someone else.
