Txiki Begiristain

We have Pablo1 yes, but with a large chunk of that 10 year span spent using the nucleus of the players recruited by the previous regime and signed whilst Roberto Mancini was manager.......not bad if you ask me for Cook's legacy to last 10 years and clean up domestically everything on offer at least twice in that time.
It was easier to sign players with an unlimited budget tbf.

I think Txiki has gotten a couple of signings wrong but comparing his signings with Gary cook's is madness. Cook didn't have any FFP restrictions to abide to unlike Txiki. There is no chance that Txiki could have bought someone like Aguero or Silva without breaking transfer records. So blaming the whole transfer policy at Txiki is foolish. Yes he has made a lot of blunders and we should be critical but he has got things right too even when UEFA is after our ass all the time.

I would have boldend out the first 3 of this seasons signings, but it is too early to tell yet whether or not they have been good signings or not, the others have had time to establish that question.

Players in Bold are good signings IMO made by the club at the time they made them, or did well for what we signed them for, those in none-bold are bad/irrelevant and poor signings IMO for a wide range of reasons, lack of football skills, injury prone, too much spent, signed and never played much etc

But THAT is a full breakdown of ALL signings we made that cost money to purchase (first team or then loaned out) or were free signings made for the first team only.
So Gary Cook had about a 70% success rate in signings with many proving to be stellar signings. I don't think Txixi comes close ..Sorry to offend.

it is your opinion-fwiw, Navas, Delph, Gundogan have all been v successful signings, champions, centurions, multiple cup winners, value for money-your bar is pretty high if you think they were poor buys. And plenty of the signings you list eg Mooy were never bough for the first team and proved 'successful' in other ways.

This list is very revealing. It shows that you just have a terribly childish opinion of what a bad signing is.

Fabian Delph. £8m, sold for £5m. Net cost of £3m for the starting LB in the best season of the club's history? Yes please, good signing. Had a lot of important games, shame about the injuries in his first 18 months but did well for us.

Ilkay Gundogan for £20m a bad signing? Not a chance.

Obviously anyone who thinks Jesus Navas was bad purchase is a wrongun. £11m for the first season alone was worth it, and even after that, he was a good squad player people scapegoated because of Pellegrini's poor tactics. Love seeing him winning in Sevilla and back in the Spain starting side.

Mooy, Angelino, Enes Unal, Harrison, Douglas Luiz bad purchases? Why? Because they made us £50m profit? Looks like Luiz is going to come back into the squad next season and he'll have cost us <10m for a Brazil international.

I think he's at least on par. I'm only interested in Manchester City first team signings, as Cook didn't have any CFG considerations or long term project players.

2013/14 - He gets 4/5 right.
2014/15 - 2/6
2015/16 - 4/4
2016/17 - 5/7
2017/18 - 5/6

20/28 successful. I'm not going to go further because I think everyone bought after 2017 could still very easily be viewed as either a failure or success by the time they leave.
