>> It is not a right wing disbelief in science.
I disagree - it is largely so. Conservatives whom I've interacted with believe that:
1) Wearing masks to prevent the spread of COVID-19 is ineffective/unnecessary;
2) Vaccinations are far more risky than any potential benefit that they may provide; let nature take its course, providing natural immunity once people catch and then recover from disease;
3) Vaccinations are a bigger threat to my children than not vaccinating - I don't want my child to end up autistic;
4) I don't believe in climate change - so , just as a double check, I'll conduct my own (absolutely unscientific) experiment - I'll pick a date, say 10/11 and I'll look at the temperature on that date over the last 50 years where I live - and what do you know? - as I thought, we're actually cooling - believe it or not, this from an intelligent Master's Degree college graduate...
And so on...
I do agree that the reason for pushback against science seems to be rooted in "restriction of freedom" - but which I'd alternatively characterize as "rejection of inconvenience" - as exploited by the right-leaning politicians.
