I had no issue with him not starting together he had a poor game last time out and I think it was a toss up between him and Torres but I would have said he was a great option to bring on for 20-30 minutes to inject some energy into the team as the game slows through tiredness and to add something different, Liverpool tired badly, we had kdb carrying a bit of a knock and not playing all that well, sterling completely anonymous and Jesus just back from injury, he could have replaced any of them and made us stronger going into the last third of the game but to not bring him on at all is baffling.

I think he was probably rightfully dropped after the disaster midweek but we wrere crying out for him in the last 20 mins today

Agree with that. He deserved not to start today but should have been given 20 minutes. Pep of old would have gone for the win and thrown him on.

And yet we continue to watch Sterling and KDB struggling like fuck.No excuse for not introducing him today,it was just poor management.

Any other team and he is one of the first names on the sheet. He can change a game, and i suspect he would have done yesterday.

If he was playing for Barca he would be a €200 mil player, playing game after game. Everyone would say he is the perfect mix of Iniesta and Xavi. But he is playing for us, actually not really playing, so we are just lucky that he is a blue. Otherwise, I think he would walk into Sancho steps, which he would be entitled to. If he is fit, he needs to start. Not because he is a blue, not because he is an academy product, but because he is that good.

Foden was shocking against the Greek team, no wonder he sit out the Liverpool game. Besides, he is one of our players whose passing percentage is a bit low. Given that Kevin has the freedom to attempt risky passes, having another like him in midfield against a superb counter attacking team like Liverpool would be suicidal. Not that many realise things like that though.

Foden will be fantastic for us but the midfield role is probably the most difficult in a Pep system and the requirements go well beyond what is obvious to the eye.

I agree totally, but still think that from the bench he could have been an interesting option. Well, God forbid maybe even in the place of Kevin! His drive and energy could have helped us as Liverpool just wanted the game to end. But yeah, Pep definitely swapped creativity with more ball control, and one could argue that he overdid it and did not find the right balance but that doesn't mean it wasn't totally justified that he left out Foden.

Maybe Pep overdid it but had he taken risks resulting in a loss, we'd be in a more difficult situation, including giving Liverpool belief they can do it without VVD. Now, with Dias, Laporte and Cancelo learning to defend together and with Jesus and Aguero coming back we are bound to get better over the course of the season. Not sure about Liverpool, VVD's absence is yet to cause them problems. In short, it was only natural for Pep to be a bit more conservative in his approach. If Kevin or Raz played a bit better, we still could have won.

Nice theory however our collective midfield gave away a fair amount of possession without Phil’s help. His passing success is around 87%. He works as hard as Kev or Gabby and it’s difficult to see his contribution being less than Sterling’s yesterday out wide. There is no valid reason not to put him on for the last 15 Minutes even if Pep was happy enough to play for the draw.

Obviously, there is a valid reason and I explained it. It's not valid for you, fair enough, but why your opinion should be the benchmark for truth and validity? Maybe Foden would have been good, naybe not. To say it was crazy or stupid to not sub him in is born out of frustration but it doesn't make it true. What if Foden played, made a mistake because of his inexperience and we lost?

I would have rather we tried to win and ultimately lost than what we saw in the second half yesterday. Liverpool were there for the taking, they blew themselves out in the first half.
Foden could have been wide, not in midfield. He is also more effective pressing and his general defensive work superior to Sterling so your ‘explanation‘ doesn’t really stand up to much scrutiny (Imo). Just opinions mate and mine is as valid as anyone’s.

I don't think all opinions are equally true but it's great to have different opinions for no opinion tells the whole truth.

Agreed, Ansu Fati turned 18 last week and has already started more league games for Barca than Foden has for us.

I think his poor performance in midweek cost him yesterday, particularly that dodgy moment in our own penalty area which Pep couldn't afford to happen yesterday.

Absolutely agree with this. The only issue I have is that those same standards never seem to apply to other players.

Phil had a shocker midweek and rightfully lost his place in the starting lineup as a result but too often he's put in a quality performance and spent the next game sitting out while we've persisted with older players who have consistently disappointed.

There are a few players who have one bad game, or even have a brilliant game, and lose their place in the side (Bernardo/Foden).

There are a couple of others who are consistently poor, sometimes acceptable, seldom good, but keep their place in the side no matter what (Sterling/Rodri).

Incredible he didn't get on yesterday. It was impossible for him to do worse than Torres who was anonymous and Sterling who was pathetic yet again against them!

Spot on.
