I would love for Foden to be in the Peps Pet camp. The likes of Gundogan, Rodri, Sterling and seemingly this season Mahrez find themselves firmly in the Pep Pet camp, where no matter how poorly they play, they find themselves starting the next game.

What I fear, is that for whatever reason Foden finds himself in the same camp that Sane found himself in. The one where X amount of great/good performances are cancelled out immediately by a bad half, or even a momentarily lapse in concentration leading to poor ball control and he finds himself out of the starting XI again.

Maybe Foden is just too off-the-cuff for Peps liking? Our play (bar KDB) is very regimented. We have full backs who barely step foot in the opposition half. We have a CDM who barely passes forward. We have inverted wingers who barely beat a man. Everything about our play could be written in an SOP and maybe Pep just doesn't like too many people like KDB and Foden in the side non-conforming to the defined process? Maybe this is why we have become boring and predictable and Foden is pissing in the wind trying to nail down a regular place in this side.

Definitely comes across to me that Pep is frightened to play Foden as he takes too many risks. Fuck knows what he was waiting for in the spuds game (or any other game we have been shit this season) before wanting to make the change. The West Ham prime example, came on and scored straight away because he makes things happen.

We're 5 years in to Pep's time here, and his substitutions are really, really simple.

He makes changes when he wants the game to change.

At 1-0 down in the Spurs game, from the 5th to the 65th minute, things were going fine. We were camped outside their box, we were looking after the ball and not letting them counter, we were trying to force another goal after Laporte's was ruled out. He had his best XI for this on the pitch, all we needed was another breakthrough as the Spurs side gets more fatigued from working hard without the ball. Tha'ts not unusual for us, we score more late goals than any other side for exactly this season. Gaps open up as people get tired.

He's not going to bring on Foden, who's been losing the ball a lot recently, because if you lose the ball by trying to force things when people are overcommitted forward, you get fucked on the counter like we did when Mahrez lost his patience and gave away the ball terribly.

If Foden came on at half time, given how often he's lost the ball this season and the bollockings he's gotten for it from KDB picked up on mic, it'd almost certainly have been him who cost us a goal, and sooner.

When we go 2-0 down, Pep knows there's no point trying to be patient and throws on the fit attackers he has on the bench.

He's explained decisions like this dozens of times over the last 5 years, and like it or not, everyone should understand how he uses substitutions by now, and that he's not going to throw a weeks worth of planning and preparation in the bin just because we go 1-0 down.

I am very aware of why he makes the subs he does, doesn't mean I agree with it.
Camped outside the spurs box creating fuck all. Lloris made his first save at 89mins didn't he?

Mahrez gave the ball away consistently either through shit passing or running the ball off the pitch, he should have been hooked after 20mins nevermind 65. Foden would have struggled to play worse than him and its not the first time this year thats been the case. I refuse to believe that Foden is more likely to cost a goal than Mahrez is at this current time.

I am sure Pep thought it was going great, more possession, passes and everything in between with nothing to show for it, a similar pattern to this season and the end of last year. This is worrying in my opinion, seems to believe that we are still living in 2018-19 and will blow teams apart, its not happening anymore and hes showing nothing to fix it. This last point not strictly for the Foden performance thread but still.

It's 8 league games since Pep and his ways posted the third highest goalscoring season in Premier League history so I don't think he's that bothered if you're worried about how we score goals or blow teams apart.

He should be bothered, because we are not scoring goals and just about getting past the likes of Sheff Utd. That is not a cause for concern?

What has last season got to do with anything where we finished nearly 20pts behind. 3rd highest goal scoring season did us no favors there did it. Bizzarely we won the golden glove as well so where did it go wrong?

No. It's literally not cause for concern if we go a few games scoring less than normal, most of which has coincided with both strikers being out.

Pep, not being overly emotional and reactionary isn't going to panic because the goalscoring tactics that worked for the first 4 years he's been here haven't worked in the last month.

Jesus played Saturday and we still created nothing. Losing both Aguero and Jesus should perhaps lower the amount of goals, not knock it to zero. We don't even look like scoring from anyone else. The only chance we have got of any midfielder scoring is if KDB or Gundogan are taking a freekick. Both are playing so deep and look out on their feet so cant even get forward to support the play.

Fair enough if you disagree, its what forums are for. I just worry we are sleep walking into huge issues this season.

Simple finish but he's great at finding space in the box.

Why is every post a question ?
Kaz l believe those loveable scouse scamps have referred to you personally on twitter as a certified nut job in the cesspit of Blue Moon.
If this is true my question is: may l be the first to congratulate you?

Kdb is often our most advanced midfielder at the minute, if pep wants two deeper midfielders, I’d like to see Foden given the role as our central advanced midfielder and Kdb playing a bit deeper alongside a holding player where he can dictate more and Foden gets more of a license to do his stuff. He’s out most inventive player right now.

And by a distance our best finisher.

Foden must play, he is David's understudy and has benefitted from years under his tutelage. Its time that Foden gets a cemented start in our XI, we are so much less dynamic without him.. not to mention his finishing.

Brilliant goal and we look a better side when Foden is playing. Of course he has bad games, but he gives us energy and is always looking to create and he is a big goal threat.

Probably the most valuable member of our squad in terms of his worth on the transfer market. I'd say he's worth more than Super Kev. If anyone wants to buy him it's £175m. Super Kev £120m. That value alone justifies the expense of running a top class academy.

He's a brilliant player but we do need to be careful with him - burning him out by 26 is no good to anyone.

I'm not sure how you have figured that as even being a consideration?
This is a player who can be the world's best and could have 15 more years in and around our first team. The game is littered with top talents who burn brightly and are gone so managing his game time astutely could give us an eternal gem. We play nearly seventy games a season. For me, one in two games is about right this season.
