I've stuck up for him a lot over the years but I think he's been poor for a year or so now. Looks pampered and seems lacking in effort and concentration

Not concerned about him long term because I think he just needs a kick up the arse. Glad to see him on the bench for now and hopefully he can get back to his best.

The whole team has been poor for a year, he has suffered because Pep has had no choice but to play Sterling. We basically played him into the ground imo.

He has had a bit of break now and really should rest again mid week, he could do with some goals against Fulham to get the mojo back.

His performance tonight was the exact same performance he has been putting in all season and the exact same performance he has been putting in for the past 18 months, minus the goal(s).

I will back anyone putting in that level of performance who scores 30 goals a season. I will not back a player putting in that level of performance every week, who isn’t scoring goals. At the moment, he doesn’t deserve to be anywhere near the starting XI.

I’m hoping people aren’t slagging him for the chance he missed by doing brilliantly to get in front of the defender but sadly running out of room after the keeper came out?
Or for the great shot after creating space but was cleared off the line?

He had a hit and miss game, but as everyone else will point out the misses I think it's worth stating that I once again thought his movement off the ball was excellent. If not for Dias he could have played a key part in a goal.

Clearly out of form with his finishing - some great runs to get opportunities but doesn't look like scoring a one on one at the moment. I think he needs to get a bit more serious - it's his first extended run of poor form but I'm sure he'll come good with a bit more application and a little less advertising distractions.

Madness that he's being singled out for tonight.
I don’t think he is being singled out for tonight. I think people are getting frustrated that this guy, who many were labelling world-class, seems to be regressing at an alarming rate.

With Sane gone and Sergio perma-injured, we were looking to Sterling as being the go-to guy. We shouldn’t have to worry about him, we should be concerned with others e.g. Torres finding their feet. Instead, we are left wondering what the fuck has happened to Raheem.

If we take last weekend out of the equation, we have our two most experienced wide forwards producing the grand sum of frig all. It can’t continue like that. Hopefully Mahrez has somewhat turned a corner, Sterling has to do the same and do it fast.

I don't think any of the forwards were any better or worse than Sterling tonight, if anything he was a bit more dangerous.
Agree he needs to up his game though. He is much better than what he's offering atm.

Conversion rate is a joke.

It is great to see him working hard, with a smile on his face, but he has to stop forcing and start reacting.

Top strikers are instinctive. Raheem may be the least instinctive, most mechanical and least technically competent “world class” striker I’ve ever seen.

“Streaky” is the kindest word one can use for his game, and I wouldn’t give him 50-50 on a 1 on 1 with any named keeper in the world.

He appears to overthink when he has time and hesitates, while trying to create a better chance for himself. I have never seen a player run so fast with the ball under so little control...and then, every month or two, he scores a worldie and you think there’s a REAL top player in there somewhere...and then we go back to where we are today.

I think he is a case study in player psychology and the effects of positive feedback on his performance.

Much like investments you may hold, I ask fellow forumites:

“Would you buy him today at the prices we would expect to sell him?”

He is not my kinda player, unfortunately.

Not much substance, and very little style. As a senior player he needs to be more of an influence and presence.

Doesn't deserve to be in the 11 in this form.
