Not at all accurate actually but a common impression that many have. Some links in this post ->
COVID-19 — Coronavirus
haha, who are these scientists - the same ones that worked for the tobacco companies and lied about the cancer they knew it would give us? The same ones that work in institutions fully funded by the carbon fuel industry that warn of the grave dangers of nuclear - in a scenario where over 7 million people are killed annually by the pollution from gas and coal fired energy generation and we’d need to have 10 nuclear plant melt downs a day to even approach similar annual deaths from nuclear?
There are always scientists that will give opinions to support major industries - that’s why we’ve killed off most of the insects and ruined most of our soil.
The fact is that many “scientific opinions“ are poorly researched and lacking in hard scientific data - just deliberate faff to support a counter argument to keep something bad going on so that industries can continue to make money (often while people continue to to be injured and to die) hence I only ever take notice of fully independent science that’s back by data from robust and repeated studies.
Anyhow, I read it, and I thank you for it, but I’m not convinced.
In fact I had a laugh at that “the way the seats are laid out” line (as if the planes have 1 line of seats down the middle separated by 2.5 metres) because we all know that the seats are as close as they can possibly get them, to minimise separation and maximise close proximity. They do, of course, lay out their seating for best profit not for viral separation!
And even if the risk on board is less than we might imagine, even if flying cramped up were to be magically and perfectly safe (due to a helpful dose of Lilly the Pink’s medicinal compound) there are still obvious risks that you avoid by not getting on a plane, there are the boarding queues at both ends, the baggage collection queues at both ends, the air that you breath and share in the departure lounges while your plane suffers a 4 hour delay due to unexplained technical issues.
I‘ve not a clue how old you are but I remember when smoking was allowed at the back of planes. I once got stuck on a flight about 5 rows in front of the smokers - I was about 4 or so metres from the blue cloud at the back, sat in clear looking air, and the crew had the air con going full whack, but I was still choking, from it and my eyes were stinging after less than 30 minutes, so not everything goes through a hepa filter - some of it goes straight into your lungs, onto your skin, into your eyes and into your clothes - from 5 rows away.
If you can remember how your clothes stank and your eyes smarted after time spent anywhere near smokers, then take that knowledge and combine it with your knowledge that a virus has no discernible smell or taste - the smoke that you suffered from was only breathed out lung air with something in it that made you appreciate how it spread out and how everybody got a share.
I‘ve flown a lot down the years are often caught a cold on the plane - covid is much more virulent.
I‘m not having a pop at you or anyone, only explaining how I come to have my opinion and, while I obviously don’t agree with it, I respect that you have yours.
You might have enthusiasm for the cattle run through a couple of airports, the busses between terminals and even out to planes, the snaking claustrophobic queues for customs etc. but it remains firmly on my don’t do list.
Finally, sorry to ramble on, it’s a very valid and engaging topic but I found myself stood on a soapbox for a couple of minutes and even managed to bore myself when I read back through
Happy flying.
