Ederson

Walker Stones Dias Laporte

Fern or Gundog

Sterling KDB Foden Torres

Aguero

Play our strongest defenders - so Laporte shoehorned in to LB as I don’t think any of the other options would do better.

Fern or Gundog as holding mid (I’ve defended Rodri but his last few games have been very poor)

Foden in beside KDB to
Lift the creative strain off his shoulders.

Two wide mean who should be capable of being direct (last chance saloon for Sterling to not face a stint on the bench)

Hopefully Sergio is ready to start, his presence even if only capable of 60 minutes would be big.

Pep to rally the troops pre-match, send them out all fired up and get wired in about Southampton.

I don’t think we need to sacrifice our attacking play as much as we have been doing lately. Start at a high tempo and take some chances please!

Like to see us just say fuck it and go for the win . Draws are no good for us and if pep keeps saying they are good results I’ll scream . Get delap on the bench for impact and make sure sterling isn’t even on the bench because he needs to know that app pep doesn’t accept poor performances . Hope kun is back because we really need him more than ever now
.

The poll just shows we don't believe we'll score (enough).
We're frustrated to see all those chances and the poor finishing.
It's the only problem. Had we scored and won 3 or 4 more games we'd call our performances dominant and having a smart match plan...
The goals will/must come, we have to get through this.
Anyway, extremely frustrating.
Seems obvious to me, teams have worked out how to nullify Peps tactics. Chances on goal dwindle more and more.
We can't even beat West Brom at home.
Pep needs to change tactics and quickly.

love how raz is getting all the blame on multiple threads , way to go supporting players out of form

Just in: Pep Guardiola has revealed Sergio Aguero did not train after West Brom, and did not train yesterday. Pep: "He trained today, and trained really well but I don't know how many minutes [he can play]. It wasn't anything about the knee but it another position."

Pep Guardiola: "The morale yesterday isn't important, it is tomorrow that counts. Be calm in the moments where you don't get results and we will try to play good to get results

Pep Guardiola on resting
@DeBruyneKev
before January: "No, he is so important for us that he won't rest. He rested in the cl previously and right now we need him

Pep Guardiola: "Last season we scored more goals than
@LFC
. We conceded too much but we have to score more, everybody knows it but it doesn't depend on one specific player. Everyone can score, it depends on the mentality and the desire

Pep Guardiola: "The reality is comparing 40 goals we scored in the year we won the first #PL, 36 the next year and 35 the year after. This year we have 18 so in the previous seasons we were there really well and we have to score more..."

Pep Guardiola on solving attacking problems: "Insist, insist, insist. If 25 shots is not enough, create more. Insist, be positive, one day it will break. Be aggressive, put more players there and when we are able to score and win the confidence will be back

Pep Guardiola: "The way we defend depends on the strikers and the same happens up front. The strikers have more responsibility but everyone is involved to try to win games

Pep Guardiola on signing someone to score: "Absolutely not. Sergio could not play much and Gabriel has incredible numbers of minutes and goals since he came - he is one of the best in history. We took 13 corners last game so everyone can score goals

Pep Guardiola on
@SouthamptonFC
: "They know exactly what they have to do in different stages, every department, every situation. The position they are in right now speaks for itself. When a team is up there after 12 fixtures, they are doing really good things

Pep Guardiola: "They [strikers] know they have to score, everybody knows it, but everybody is involved to create more clear chances. This is all we can do."

Pep Guardiola: "We have to play better. We create chances and we can play better. We were not able to do some principles perfectly lately and we have to come back on this. It is not just the responsibility of the strikers

Pep Guardiola on fans at
@SouthamptonFC
: "The government decided, nothing more to add. I wait for them to take good decisions for society. If they believe they can, I am happy. If they believe we cannot have fans for the welfare of everyone, that is welcome

Would like to see something like this:

Ederson
Walker
Stones
Dias
Cancelo
Fernandinho
Gundogan
De Bruyne
Bernardo
Torres
Aguero

Aguero is struggling apparently. Training but not throughout the entire week. Sounds like he might be a sub

Obviously I would like to see AGuero fit but I don't think Aguero would make a difference. It's not taking chances that the problem, it's creating them.

People see the headline stats re lack of goals and assume strikers but other than the odd game we've really struggled to create chances.

The plus point for this season is the defence, and the fact that the other leading clubs are also struggling.

Abandon the double pivot please.
You think City's struggles come down to tactics? I

My solution would be to select players who play with the intensity associated with Manchester City. No one wins games in this league unless they work hard and our midfield is too often at snail's pace. Passes move faster than players but you also need players to have the power and speed to create space for themselves.

I am not as confident that "goals will come". I think teams have decided to collapse on our forward skill players 2 and 3 on 1 in possession in the box and man-mark De Bruyne because (1) an unmarked Rodri with possession 30 yards out is no threat to pick a pass or score; our FBs often aren't either (2) we aren't a threat on aerial crosses, especially as we don't make runs, nor corners; (3) if you man-mark DeBruyne -- denying him time and space -- we don't have a different creative outlet and when Silva played a alongside him you had to choose who to shadow, and if you shadowed them both you left gaps; and (4) there's no reason to be dragged wide because we almost never run an overlap. What we get is plenty of the ball and opportunities to score, but not as many good opportunities.

We're an odd duck. We're a defensive-minded side with zero counter-attacking goals because we always have possession.

We are creating chances but not taking them, you think sergio being on the end of them wont help ?

Because he has been shit . do you want people to say well done your having a blinder . I have always stuck for him in past seasons but at the moment he is dire
And taking all of the blame , he is not a striker for one , gabby doesnt get half the grief he does

Why not make a virtue out of a problem?

With City's current defence we can expect clean sheets. With clean sheets you can expect to win games even if it's 1-0, I don't care. That's partly why I would play Foden and Bernardo together whenever possible. They would make it even more difficult for teams to score against us and hence we' could win games despite not scoring anything like as many goals.

This to me seems the most likely way out of this. Even though we played very badly at home to WBA, we really should have won that game 1-0 and would have done had it not been for a fluke deflection. They say you make your own luck but in that game WBA had about 2 attacks and in one of them their shot got a deflection that took it away from Ederson whereas we had about 20 attempts and although they were far from clinical you'd expect some lucky bounce but no, didn''t happen.

Sterling not been great 3 goals in last 3 games 1 goal 2 assists sterling so hes doing better than a lot of others.
