He's not saying that though is he....

Are you an Athletic reader Frank?
If so, you will know many of his articles on there are informative, interesting and without bias. And for me that makes a refreshing change compared to much of the BS in the MSM.

Sam was utterly clueless on FFP and his co-contributor on the FFP articles was the Athletic's financial "expert" Matt Slater. Slater's position changed during the events ( a shift from biased to objective IMO) and the final detailed summary of CAS moved our very own legal expert projectriver to comment it it was a very fair and balanced piece.
Prestwichblue said it was shit. So disagreement with the 2 most valuable FFP contributors on here with CAS yet both on the same side as for loyalties etc!

I was mate until Boxing day but too tight to pay the full price so waiting for any deals they offer. Think they offered half price a day or two back.

I agree, I have really enjoyed a lot of the Athletic stuff, particularly the stuff on Italian football etc and some of the more obscure articles on clubs I might not know that much about. I also like how they weave stories together by interviewing people directly involved at the time. It reminded me of writing academic papers.

Completely agree, its mainly without any bias although I did accidentally stumble on one or two Liverpool articles which weren’t to my liking.

Yeah I think Sam Lee was out of his depth there with the FFP stuff. Not his fault he is more a football tactical analyst rather than a financial whizz kid, it could be argued he should not have been put in that position. But overall its been great and its like night and day compared to mainstream media.

Is he not defending a colleague / his employer / and ultimately a shit point of view?

He has a history of having a pop at City supporters, he should be above reacting in that manner, or think about staying on social media....all in my humble opinion.

To be fair, he even says in the response it’s not the rating he would have given.

Fuck Sam Lee, guy‘s a prick.
Called him out on something he said last game about us & Covid, resting players etc....can't remember exactly what now. The best I can say for him is that he replied to me basically calling him unprofessional and crap at writing if we all 'read' his twitter comments wrong.

He didn't block me but he may as well have as I'll not be wasting time (I know I'm typing on here about it) going into dialogue again with him.

yeah, imagine being on the bench and watching Fred kick it into touch every ten minutes
The weird thing is a lot of them love Fred on their sites, some of them seem convinced he's their second best performer after Fernandes.

my concerns with him have always been that the biggest story of the year he was way off & people say he’s well connected. He’s well connected with blues who knew the truth & nothing & not only that but that seems to be ok.

surely the editor would be pissed at getting it wrong, I wasn’t wrong & I’m a no nowt.

no doubt there’s a big article about the documentary released after buying the fa cup & with that he’ll talk about us being Manchester’s first club & first trophy winner.

Yes he did get it wrong, but I think deep down many blues probably thought we might lose at CAS.

As I wrote previously not sure football in finances is his specialism and so it was probably unfair to put him in that position. Being wrong though is a big difference from being biased, which seems to get levelled at him.

I've no issue with Sam at all, anything I've seen from him has been fair.

But like the MEN, the fact that a United fan is the City correspondent is ridiculous and speaks volumes.

A reasonable view given he’s absolutely transformed our defensive solidity in 4 short months!

The twat that wrote the article has been shown up for his bias, which makes paid sites like the Athletic a non event for most blues.

On a side issue I also saw an article on sly’s website - Kings of the Premier League. A dipper and Eni Aluko couldn’t find a place in their teams for any City player, even when their rankings indicated they should have. Managed to find slots for Slabhead and Fofana ahead of Dias.

It’s simply tiring watching/reading the MSM and something I do little of now, although there has been some decent stuff about our return to playing great football and also CB in the interests of being fair!

Criticism of the initial article and disagreeing completely with that, I get completely. Not sure why it’s generated so much conversation about someone that didn’t even write it though and has been effusive in his praise of Dias.

My opinion of Sam Lee is pretty simple, he spends a lot of time with dyed in the wool blues like @BillyShears, Mooney, Lloyd, Howard etc. on various podcasts and none of them have a bad word to say about him, and all of them want to keep working with him. In fact I'm yet to hear anyone who has actually met him or spoken to him outside social media have a bad word to say.

As a reporter, his long form Foden and Aguero pieces have been probably the best pieces of Manchester City journalism I've read int he past 5 years.

He's not Delaney, he's not Alyson Rudd, he's not even Jamie Jackson. The worst thing you can say about him is there are quite literally dozens of worse journalists to read or listen to as a Manchester City fan.

It’s not about winning or losing it was about the possibility of winning or losing. Recently here was a serial killer on trial here & they still discussed possibility of guilty or innocent.

Since then where is the follow up, how could it go that far? Why are UEFA & G14 .......

Heres a few articles for him;

Foden 100 games & what’s his best position?

Manchesters first trophy

That is pretty much my take. All the blues who actually know him speak highly of him, he comes across well on the podcasts and has wrote some decent articles and although I have not always read them, thinking I agree 100 percent with them, not really noted any bias.

Don't see what purpose trying to alienate him achieves, but opinions often seem very black and white nowadays.

100% this.

I particularly enjoyed the Gundogan "pausa" article trying to get to the bottom of the importance of Gundogan to Pep and City. Totally a unique take by Sam Lee and not replicated or considered anywhere else. Proper journalism.

As an aside, I don't think tolmie has any time for Sam Lee. Not sure if that's personal or mnore to do with his disdain for the Athletic and the impact on media business.
