Colin Bell RIP - Ian Cheeseman interview with Jon Bell (P142)

Just watching Sunday's match again and the tribute to Bell before kick off, noticed how keenly Bernardo Silva was watching the video playing on the screen. Not sure they all were, but Bernardo especially had his eyes on it. Hope all the players at the club know what Colin Bell was and is to MCFC.
I was thinking that City's players should have been stood facing the screen and not with their back to it. Wouldn't have been difficult to arrange before the game regardless of which way the team were kicking in the 1st half.

Mrs Vienna has just told me that Cheesy was asked when the funeral is.

His reply was that the family has expressed their wishes that it's not made public, as they don't want anyone to be arrested for breaking COVID regulations.

Right. Bernardo was looking over his shoulder so he could see it. Couple of players seemed fascinated by their bootlaces.

His exact reply was:
"I won’t make it (the date / venue) public at the request of the family and due to fears of people breaking Covid rules - I hope you understand"

Which is the correct answer

Come on mate, you’re surely not being critical of players lowering their heads during a 1 minute silence. The big screen wasn’t for them
I thought it was clear that some wanted to watch the video, whilst others didn't really know how to react, so they just bowed their heads as is usual for a minute's silence.

Fair enough. My original thought was that Bernardo seemed the most alert to the occasion. I think he "gets" the club in the way that Zabaleta and Kompany learned to do after they arrived, and Uwe Rosler, going back a bit. It'd be a good idea if all the players spent an occasional hour with Gary James on a laptop, or Ian Cheeseman or the old fella who's been doing the video previews of matches recently. Then they could go for a drive through Rusholme and down Claremont Road to see where it all happened.

Here is a Bristol City one that might be especially interesting to older Bluemooners:

Amazing and very touching that another team's forum speak so well of him. I think even in these lack of respect times and the cesspit that can be the internet few football fans could have disliked Colin Bell if he was playing today. So quiet and humble I don't remember one negative headline about him, he just played football to a very high level. I think the most daring thing he ever did was the Frosties adverts with Tony the Tiger. "They're greeeeeat!!!"

I've just read all those posts. Every one kind words. Friendly lot are Bristolians. I seem to recall a few of them joining here before a cup tie a few seasons back.
