Still can't shake the impression it's positively hectic out there. Schools are shut ...but everything else apart from luxury retailers is open and going like the clappers. Would definitely welcome a bit of a reboot. Don't want to leave my home right now, it's so busy and dirty. Can't socialise again for months, but everyone doing any job whatsoever is back at it. Seems wierd to me. TBH I've found the last 72hrs as difficult as any point. I can't accept we're just going to save the economy and screw the people.

But maybe I'm being too optimistic in hoping for a change.

I like the idea of us trying to punish China as well. Like, what? Make them sit in the naughty corner?

Hope you feel better soon. This won't last forever and, hopefully, cases will start coming down again in a few weeks.
 
Not sure if it’s been posted or not but I saw a quote from a local doctor in London, on LinkedIn today.

Professor Chris Witty was volunteering on a Covid ward during Christmas time and apparently getting stuck in as well.

Fair play to the man. I think he’ll get a knighthood at the end of this.

He is passionate about the nhs , jonathan van tam has been giving the vaccine as well , anxious to help out , i am sure most of sage are the same

Whatever cock ups have been made, we must appreciate these men haven’t always been listened to and Witty and Van Tam and the rest of them have probably felt a ton on their shoulders for the past 10 months.

I doubt they’ll do any of their own internal changes of systems and laws neither.

New strains of flu will still come out of China every year as they always have, then in another decade something massive will happen again. Everyone will say “why were they not investigated back in 2020 and made to change?”

The Chinese government cant be trusted, this is an authoratarian dictatorship that controls and manipulates everything. They spend about a tenth of what European countries spend on health care per person and tens of millions of their people live in very crowded housing, yet they expect us to believe they have just had their first covid death in 8mths and about 4600 deaths in total. They then refuse the who investigation team first off. Any investigation will be a sham. The western world should be putting trade embargos on this nasty dictatorship and demanding reparations.

Yes it must have felt like they had the weight of the world on their shoulders , still do . People didnt want to listen to whitty but he was right with his warnings and numbers

Ferguson's prediction isn't looking as ridiculous as people made out now btw. Excess deaths are around 100k already. He said 500k if no one did anything at all. With even more overrun hospitals and literally zero measures i don't think that that would be that far off over the course of the entire pandemic. We'll probably be looking at 130k by spring. Not hard to imagine it being 3 times that with life carrying on as per usual and zero interventions

Ironically, the main thing Ferguson got wrong was that he underestimated how fast it spreads
