Maybe, just maybe a little normality can return mid to late April once some sort of immunity kicks in 7-10 days after last jab has been given in this group.
"Some sort of immunity" kicks in after about 10 days from the first vaccine, the problem is, it's quite likely those vaccinated can still it carry and pass it on, and we won't really know much about that for several months.

Looked at tomorrow's paper front pages. Times is reporting that over 50s will be vaccinated by the end of March.
Another paper says daily vaccinations to climb to 500k per day next week.

Its a nice headline but I'll believe it when I see it.

they can pass it on but if they pass it on to someone who has been vaccinated or recently had they aren’t getting ill.

challenge trials. Take a vaccinated group and experiment on them. Infect them and see if they have virus in their throats. Easily said but is it ethical? They have been vaccinated after all and we are told the vaccines 100% protect against illness. Try it on Boris and Hancock?

And if they haven't had it or not been vaccinated ?

I've said before we need to use caution not rush things. I'm in my lat 50's, and still think I'm 2 months at least from getting enough vaccine to make a difference, it's typical britain, to want everything right now, be patient, the good times will come, but rush them and it'll be another fuck up.

Are you going to volunteer when you have the vaccine ? No thought not.

Good advice mate.
Remember these weird states as a kid...the bed would seem to grow huge and the universe with it. Hypnagogic?

been getting early nights (ish) but it’s never a thorough nights sleep unfortunately.
Racked with guilt over my new job...I know it’s impossible fir me to attend can’t online meetings (I look physically wretched and voice is all but gone) and I struggle to concentrate fir any longer than ten minutes. I was flying high last week and now I’m physically & mentality banished to the pits.

thanks for all the kind words...day 5/6 (from initial symptoms) so hoping I start picking up soon.
Why do you feel guilt over your job? Getting ill is beyond your control. Your priority is yourself and recovering is the best you can do for your colleagues too right now. Take it easy

then they are likely in a low risk group and will in the vast majority of cases be fine and improve the r rate still further?

and in your last paragraph the balance between the harm of what your propose and the harm of opening up too soon is an impossible balance and I would hazard the government will be keen to release the break quickly and the opposition parties will say it is too soon. Leave it too long and they will say it is stifling the economy.

my opinion for what it is worth, once the nhs is under less strain and the over 50s vaccinated - away we go. I trust more informed people such as Whitty to get the balance as correct as is possible in conjunction with the health minister and treasury.

the news of 500k vaccines a week suggest they are desperate to get the economy going. The lock down is impacting mental health, jobs, education and there comes a point that is worse than covid. Clearly not yet but not a million miles away once vaccination progresses surely????

I've said before that you are far too optimistic, and I'll stick by that.

I (late 50's) probably won't get the first vaccine until late March, the second mid-April, so early May is the earliest I'll be trusting anything, if I don't get it in the mean time, which I intend to do my very best to avoid.

That's effectively out of my hands, as my missus works in a busy dentist 3 days a week, and I still have to go into a very poorly ventilated (underground), and not very well socially distanced office, full of younger (and in some cases irresponsible) people who travel from all over the country to work for 7 days at a time.

Whitty will keep the breaks on if he can, I'm not convinced he'll be able too, largely because of views like yours, and much worse, that we need to open ASAP, we do, but ASAP to me is later than yours.

We've rushed before, but never to do the right thing like "close down", every time we have rushed to open up it's made matters worse eventually, not trying to pick an argument, just trying to stay realistic, we should all stay realistic, but each to their own I guess.

no argument from me just debating and you put your point across well. I am seeing the suffering of people in business when putting my view across and the impact it is having on my kids and everyone else’s. Let’s see. Keep safe.

But you hate politics on this thread, unless of course you're playing lickspittle to certain politicians (no naming names) who thought best to take Coronavirus on the chin and go shake hands with some hospital patients. Face palm.

I so hope you do get your wish and go independent.
