New striker?

NO way we will go for him.....He is a decent player but his presence in the utd team when we played them was a huge weakness as he couldnt/wouldnt press our back four.. I was always happy to see him play against us as it meant one of their more mobile forwards wouldnt play....

Haaland for £66.6m in 2022 sounds like an ideal plan - his release clause which activates then apparently.

He’s worth waiting for. We desperately need a striker but we can’t be signing second a rate one. Sign Messi this summer and give Sergio another year. Ideally though, we should just throw everything we can at Dortmund to sign him this summer.

Usually when there's smoke, there's fire but I just can't see Lukaku here at all. He's not a bad player by any means but he seems an awkward at best fit for Pep's style.

I'm not sure he'd be a good fit for us but if we are interested i would think Pep would have got a lot of input from De Bruyne and it seems to work at international level

Lukaku is a misunderstood and underrated player who had his reputation destroyed by United.

Mourinho misused him. Despite being absolutely huge Lukaku has never been a target man or a hold-up forward. He might be a giant but he plays like a midget. He's a pure goal getter.

His entire career outside of United he's always been a really good scorer. Not great, but still really good.

He's not exactly someone I'd want as he'd be nowhere near worth whatever money he'd cost but if we signed him I wouldn't be upset. As a stylistic fit he's no worse than Haaland (I'd obviously prefer Haaland in case you misinterpret that).
I think he struggled at Utd with a digestive/health issue, looking at him now he looks in great nick

My theory is that one day after training he accidentally knocked a wall panel that opened up the secret room where Luke Shaw stashes all of his snacks. And the rest is history..

Belgium would have won the World Cup if Lukaku hadn't missed all the sitters KDB set up for him. He is only good enough for the slow-paced pub league in Italy these days.

Lukaku simply doesn’t fit the profile.

Look around for a young, no drama, goal scorer, who is mobile, can press, doesn’t have ANY “attitude” that could disrupt the dressing room and has an excellent OFF FIELD life.

Find THAT guy and the club will move Heaven and Earth to sign him.

Lukaku is a compleatly different player to what he was at united, iv watched him at Inter and hes turned into one of the best Strikers in football. I have no idea where he has got this pace from but he's so fast which i thought i would never say about Lukaku hes combined his new blistering pace with power.

At inter he plays yes as a striker but he shows up everywhere accross the front 3 his hold up play has increased significantly plus his dribbling has improved he can actually use skill instead of just relying on his power to beat somone 1v1.

His finishing has improved as well 23 goals last season, hes on 13 and 3 assists this season. hes Inters kingpin hes making goals himself as well, game against Juve last season he nutmegged De ligt and then dribbled from the half way line taking players on to create an oppertunity at goal for inter. thats not just a one time thing he has that ability now.

I can see why Pep would want him his first touch has improved, hes brilliant at linking up play with other attackers in the Inter team bullies defenders Conte has transformed him hes nothing like he was at united. looking at City hes a massive on upgrade on Jesus and i never thought i would say that. also one thing that has gone under the radar at Inter is his passing he creates oppertunities out of nothing. theres a clip from a champions league game where he outside of the foot crosses the ball past 2 defenders to Martinez in the box which Martinez finishes.

ill link this vid i know its youtube highlights and its not the best but you will see what i mean by hes different than he was at united.

That's the funny thing, because Conte has actually turned him into being an elite hold-up forward, its now become his strongest asset at Inter.

Mourinho saw his build and wanted him to be that, it's not wrong (and Conte has validated that Lukaku is great at it), but Mourinho probably thought Lukaku didn't need time to learn it, and Conte realized Lukaku didn't understand how to play that role.

It's actually encouraging for anybody who is a fan of Lukaku that he was able to learn this role (although physically it was easy), he just needed time and for somebody to teach him, Mourinho was awful at this it seems.

Am I mad for thinking that Danny Ings might be worth us having a punt on?

I rate him.
Not at all, Haaland & Ings anyday for me.

Ings would absalutely score goals in this City team

Remember many games we wont need that robust quick striker we will need a player of Tevsz & Aguero mould

Ings, Dybala or Icardi that sort of player

Thats my worry under Pep would Haaland get more frustrated playing against 2 blocks

All matter of opinion but Haaland I would have in a heart beat but 2 new players like Ings & Lukaku would be pretty decent

Gabby for all his work rate Ings is the better finisher

Its going to be fun these next few months
Alaba also now played his cards free agent lets push the boat out for him he is everything we need

Always thought he was pretty fast when he was at Everton, seemed to score a lot where he played off the last defender and raced past them onto through balls and powered a shot past the keeper.

As people have said, he was misused at un*t*d and I think his head probably went a bit. He piled on the pounds and became pretty unfit, and as a result his first touch suffered. When you're concentrating on huffing and puffing the oxygen into your lungs, as he probably was, you're not concentrating on the tiny details that result in a perfect first touch.

It's ALL about fitness.

I don't doubt that Lukaku would be great for us, I just feel like Haaland is going to be one of the greatest strikers of all time and he could do it in sky blue.

At the other end of the spectrum I really like Ings and Antonio. I love Dybala but strikers require a bit more physicality imo. False 9 Messi would be incredible (duh) but I feel like sterling would hit new records for chances missed playing alongside Messi
