Lol - I suppose if you get them all in one place at least you can keep an eye on them and see what they're up to!

She was lead candidate for Tinge UK in the EU elections. She was a lib dem member before that and before that a Conservative. Now independent. Sounds like just a grifter like her dad and older brother tbh.

I thought of typing something clever about her being the balance but couldn't be arsed. Thing is if you were to deliberately assemble a news network of a cross section of diverse races and gender/sexual identities you would probably find more talented presenters and produce better and more interesting programmes than the gammon news network.

I wonder how many of the middle aged and OAPs are gonna tune into watch their views reflected back at them. Is it going to be a subscription based model?
Free to air with all revenue coming from advertising. I would assume it will be products that appeal to their demographic. Adverts for gay conversion therapy etc.

Why are the BBC chasing ratings?

The program is tax payer funded so if it gets 1 listener or 1 million it matters not a fucking jot.

If it wants to operate in a commercial way it can do it in a commercial way.
It does matter, because if “everyone” pays the licence fee, then they should provide content for all across their services. There’s a balance to be had between not chasing ratings and going uber-obvious, and but also not trying to be niche all the time. I don’t see an issue with their most listened to radio station playing the popular content it does and aiming to reach as many of the population as they can.
I do agree they don’t need to be getting any bidding wars for presenters (calling them DJs would be pushing it).

Plastic patriots :)

Course it is, a front for rich men who want more riches.

It does amuse me that Orwell described Patriotism as having nothing to do with Conservatism, that i reckon was a tongue in cheek dig at the right , it worked though because they go into fits of apoplexy about it.

Found the full quote,

Patriotism has nothing to do with Conservatism. It is actually the opposite of Conservatism, since it is a devotion to something that is always changing and yet is felt to be mystically the same. It is the bridge between the future and the past.

George Orwell, The Lion and the Unicorn (1941)

I think this will do very well, the BBC will be the main one to suffer, and they're already dropping viewers, hey-ho.

I read a report in an American news outlet about how Britain could be set for its own Fox news style channel and I guess this is it?

They warned that just like in America one of the first things they will do is attack ofcom and argue for free speach.

I think they'll do well, there's a big market for Fox style news and all of the fake news they have pumped out (ultimately to convince the people that they should overthrow their govn.) but hey ho.

Telling poor white folk that at least they're not black will make money, and if it doesn't some old rich white men will keep it afloat.

Hearts and minds, hearts and minds. Things are going to go seriously south, so it's more important than ever to give cover for the real criminals. The ignorant will need someone to blame and this dog shit right wing channel will give it to them.

Fumbs gave the perfect reply, a bit before this one.

It wont fail, because this is what all the culture war stuff has been leading up to in my opinion. I have a mate who cant wait for this channel to start because......cultural marxism,...lefty beeb....Lamestream media....blah blah blah...I just told him he was a fucking crackpot

Predicted this would happen. This will be the number one rated news channel within a month of it’s launch.

I'm not so sure.

There's an appetite for right wing, woke buster, class warrior bullshit, of that there is no doubt, but Tory TV will have difficulty replicating the success of FOX, Newsmax and One America. Because unlike MAGA Trump, the UK Conservative party, and particularly Johnson, have only a tenuous hold on their new northern outlands and not just because they're inept. Johnson doesn't have the visceral appeal that Trump has with the MAGA crowd, and it was Trump's visceral appeal that meant the orange bastard could lie to them, cheat on them, steal from them and do fuck all for them and they still loved him.

Johnson on the other hand has been running on empty for some time, his political capital is spent.

Telling people what to hate, shout "over there, over there" to distract attention from rich folks crimes and misdemeanours can only work for so long, after a while jam tomorrow won't cut it when there's never any jam today.

Murdoch producing his own UK news channel as well. With the BBC claiming "neutrality" it looks like we'll have a further dominant right wing editorial slant on the news of the day.

Tories attacking workers rights and cutting benefits to pay for a natural disaster. It's all set up nicely for a boogieman to be used as a distraction whilst more tax is being siphoned off to the rich.

The left news Networks have to rely on the internet as they don't have rich "patriots" tax dodgers able to find them.

I was hoping Neal would put Journalist integrity at the top of his production list. It's looking more Like his TV network will a version of the Torygraph whilst Rupert reverts to his his trusted The Sun White Van Man demographic.

What do we have to do to get properly balanced news coverage in this country?

I knew it would happen, the BBC is fast losing credibility, SKY news has lost around a third of viewers over the past few years, and Beth Rigby and Kay Burley haven't helped.

Ironically since Sky News was bought by Comcast I feel they've become the most balanced news channel. That's not saying much mind. Rigby didn't force her own opinions on government policy unlike the Client Journalist at the BBC who called universal credit "generous"

To be honest I'd be glad if all rolling news was fucked off. Four times thirty minute bulletins a day unless there's a major news story that requires a special report is enough.

I was kind of curious to see how many actually watch News programs and it was more than I thought. On line media seems to have had the biggest impact on figures, but BBC at 18m and Sky at 12m were larger audiences than I expected. Plus you have ITV and Channel 4 news.

Outside of something major happening, I haven’t regularly watched news programs in years, with probably CH4 news and Newsnight my preferred choice if some event warrants it. Can’t remember the last time I watched either of them though.

Personally, I can’t think of anything worse than tuning in to watch 24 hour news on a daily basis, let alone have RW propaganda rotting my brain, but I guess there is a market for ‘news’ consumption.

How many on here watch nightly news bulletins? My mother watches them religiously and I have yet to divine the appeal.

I don’t do facebook, the only social media I do is Twitter and I use that as a news aggregator and it’s mainly sports, and that is daily, so it’s kind of the same I guess.

Bear in mind a Fox News type channel still can’t happen here due to the regulations we have in place around balanced content and impartiality.

What will be the true warning sign will be if the government does anything about that, which I wouldn’t put past them.

I think channel 4 is as good as it gets. The BBC definitely suffer from the need to fill the 24 Hr cycle and it becomes quantity over quality with fox style headline chasing. I like to go on youtube ans try to take an equal dose of far left and far right stuff on the assumption that I might be able to discern the middle myself.
