Political relations between UK-EU

I can imagine what you’d have said if we acted in the same way, your postings tonight have been in defence of them and you know it.

Hmmm, just to recap. We put in the AZ contract that we wanted the UK produced supply to come to us first, and the EU have now issued a transparency order to ensure the EU produced supply *checks notes* comes to them first?

You see my dilemma...if I criticise both actions I will be accused of dissing the UK and if I support both actions I will accused of defending the EU.

Of course I could support the UK decision and criticise the EU decision, but that would be a tad hypocritical don’t you think?

The Guardian are not even attempting to support the EU position, which is incredible as they have to pander to an almost 100% Remain readership.

The EU have completely lost the plot here.
Anyone attempting to defend the EU over this just look ridiculous.
Those that do choose to say silent...

They two are not remotely comparable at all and you know it

It's the perfect 'opportunity' (for want of a better word) for them to rightfully criticise the EU's actions and show to other's that they aren't just EU fanboys.

As you say, it is very telling and kudos to the ones who have done because we're all together in the criticism of this action. I'd say it's laughable but this situation isn't funny at all and do hope that common sense prevails, the EU holds its hands up and rescinds the invocation of A16.

It's a matter of supply chain and distribution to key strategic locations. All EU designated vaccine is being manufactured in the EU. AZ owns the knowledge, they transfer that knowledge to the capable manufacturing sites and support them technically to implement that knowledge. This is called technology transfer.

This issue has resulted because AZ briefed the EU they would only be able to supply them with ~60% less than they promised to deliver. That's entirely because an EU Contract Manufacturing Organisation has produced a batch with a 60% deficient yield. It's only on the CMO.

If you add a kilo of ingredients to the pan to make a kilo of food and you only get 200g would you ignore it? At this point AZ are technical support and distribution / production coordinators

Your second sentence is just simply not true and also contradicts the contract. There’s always been planned distribution to the EU from the U.K. sites and vice versatility, the company I work for does some of the logistics for it.

You’re right that’s the main reason for the shortfall. It’s the reason AZ gave for not providing some (more) from the U.K. site that’s caused the issue though.

Again, that’s an AZ issue and why the EU released the contract though. For them, there’s no such thing as EU or U.K. yields, it’s just AZ. The uk plant had a shortfall too and AS used stock from elsewhere.

For sake of clarity, let me be very clear here. The EUs actions today are cuntish to the extreme and personally I don’t think are justified or condonable.

That doesn’t mean there’s a need to be a disingenuous interpretation about what the underlying issues are and why it’s in the situation it is though. AZ haven’t fulfilled their contract, that’s led to a breakdown in trust between them and the EU and the EU are now acting like twats to try and get around it.
Have you read this? It explains a lot.
Please read this for info from the boss of AZ. What the issues are etc etc.

I think the big one that people are missing is that Oxford only gave AZ permission to distribute the vaccine because they promised the UK 100million doses from it's UK sites as a priority.

Without that deal, there's no deal for the EU, US anywhere

Bingo

Yes and I can see why it pissed the EU off and why they wanted to release the contract. Like i said earlier, i imagine our government weren’t happy with that interview either.
And the point you dismissed about yields? Its explained in the interview why the EU factory yields are poor compared to the UK factory yields. The EU's vaccine planning and rollout has been a disgrace, anyone defending their incompetence needs to give their head a good fucking wobble. Thank fuck we are out as we'd be looking at about 1/3 of our current number of vaccination's if that.

It‘s a contract, they don’t actually work on a first come, first served basis.

Contract A: We agree to supply you with ten nuts by Jan 31st.

Contract B: We agree to supply Bob with twenty nuts by Jan 31st.

Come Jan 31st I want my twenty fucking nuts as per the contract. Not five nuts and wibble about having to give ten to someone else. Not my problem.

The next bit is me having a temper tantrum and flicking my poop at the walls because I haven’t got my nuts, which is pretty much the EU right now, and while momentarily satisfying it isn’t going to get me my nuts.
