Barcelona now have the reality of excessive debt rather than the contrived sin of investment that FFP brought to City.
And to think we have been lectured by all and sundry on financial fair play - how we can be painted as a negative to the sport compared to these and Rags is utterly scandalous.Martin Samuel's reveals the extent of Barcelona financial plight.

MARTIN SAMUEL: Barca cannot afford Eric Garcia let alone Lionel Messi
MARTIN SAMUEL - CHIEF SPORTS WRITER: Eric Garcia has said he would play for Barcelona for nothing. Given the latest news about their finances, he may have to.www.dailymail.co.uk
There was also a brilliant line that confirmed something like their last 6 month wage bill had been 'state funded', a 'crime' constantly labelled in our direction...........Barcelona now have the reality of excessive debt rather than the contrived sin of investment that FFP brought to City.
Seems like it’s between 200 and 300 judging by twitter. Can’t believe how anyone wouldn’t want Messi at City. Best player of all time and he would end up paying his own wagesCan see why they didn’t want Messi to go if he brings in Revenue of around 200m while there other star players bring in a pittance compared to messi.
Barcelona will be in a lot more trouble once Messi leaves! 200m is a lot to recoup!
With a painting of a Spitfire as a parting gift :- )They should cancel his contract by mutual consent and let him go.

Certainly if a debt no matter how big can be serviced like Man U then no problem but the exceptional Covid times have made the risk a reality for all.Barcelona are like Michael Jackson.
They are always going to be valuable, even if like MJ, they die.
That’s why the Catalan state Banks will always borrow them money.(to get them out of this mess)
But, but, where the f*ck is Tebas in all of this mess?
Speak out, you f*ucking hypocrit!

How did they have Barca over a barrel, surely Barcelona had the same band width as all other clubs and players in rejecting their demands (or am I missing something)? In a nutshell, Messi and his Father(Agent) had Barcelona over a barrel. They probably got everything they wanted from Barcelona when Messi and his Father negotiated contracts.
On a serious note. I sincerely hope if City do sign Messi, our Sheikh Mansour and the Directors don’t go down a similar road paved with gold. If these figures are true, let PSG have a free run at Messi. Even though I would love Messi to play for City.
| 53. | Member States that intend to grant restructuring aid must provide a comparison with a credible alternative scenario not involving State aid, demonstrating how the relevant objective or objectives in section 3.1.1 would not be attained, or would be attained to a lesser degree, in the case of that alternative scenario. Such scenarios may, for example, include debt reorganisation, asset disposal, private capital raising, sale to a competitor or break-up, in each case either through entry into an insolvency or reorganisation procedure or otherwise. |
Cruyff is one of the very few people who really could turn in their grave.it's what happens when the institution ends up being run by the sycophants, suits and hangers on rather than the people that made it great in the first place. Cruyff would be turning in his grave if he saw shit like this. The reason Barca mean anything is because of what they instilled on the pitch, they never had the right to dictate things off it and it's now biting them.
It`s absolutely not. That would be 26m a year, and he would generate far more than that through shirt sales, increased sponsorships etc. Reports says he generates over 200m a year for Barca. Even though he`s old, he would be an incredible addition to the squad. If his signing costs £500k a week then for a player in the twilight of his career it is madness
True, the whole thing is crazy and we are in the middle of it. I remember the head of the FA Graham Kelly going on Saint and greavsie discussing the new Premier League coming in and said individual stating that “football has been under financed for years in this country”; well you can’t say that now!On the flip side Messi generates more income for Barca in shirt sales, sponsorships ect than his yearly wage so the club will think that's a good deal.
Where they have fucked up is the wages they are paying other players which are completely crackers
Griezmann £550,00 a week
Coutinho. £350,00 a week
Dembélé. £245,00 a week
De Jone. £300,00 a week
