We're all in the same boat mate. What we don't need at the minute, is people rocking the boat and sinking it, after we have been at water for a year.

You have had a bit of a rant this morning, but you don't know what the proposals actually are. From having a look, it seems the media are scare mongering again. No verified source and no actual details. Stop winding yourself up.

I don't watch the news I scramble for the remote to switch channels as it comes on as it totally depresses me. I do however see bits on here and other places and what I'm seeing has caused the rant.

The boat we are sailing in is slowly sinking in spite of the valiant efforts of the crew due to the incompetence of the officers and captain on the bridge and at the helm. We are all ready to abandon ship and take our chances in the stormy sea.

Did you see that news report about that woman who killed her disabled son? She was obviously mentally broken and the lockdown was actually cited as a contributory factor. I said in the first lockdown that it must be horrendous for full time carers on their own. The usual avenues for ongoing support and allowing her some respite had been with withdrawn, and I bet there are hundreds of thousands in the same position.

It is beyond cruel and sadly I fear she won't be the last. Even machines pushed too hard cease functioning never mind humans.

There's a balance here between having people working in essential services and non-essential. In the grand scheme of things, going to a football match or having a beer sat in a pub aren't really essential for the majority. I appreciate everyone is handling this differently and I know you live alone from your previous posts, so understand that for mental health reasons others need these escapes, which is why I think they will open soon(er), but how do they ensure everyone has been vaccinated who attends - sadly not everyone is as respectful to others.

A lot of the problems arise with self entitled people thinking they are essential workers. This week in our cul de sac I've seen builders across the road doing an extension with no safe distancing, a local blind company measuring up in another house and a local hairdresser sneaking into another house

if you work in the public sector you have been on a 100% salary throughout this .

if you are a middle class family you are having nice family time. your kids are probably getting good home schooling , warm weather soon it’s going to be lovely .

If you are a family of 4 living in a tower block you won’t feel like we are all in this together and your kids are probably not getting a good home schooling experience , or any kind of happy families

if you have a little high independent street shop or restaurant in Manchester you think you can survive throughout this forever ?

don’t even get me started on footballers, soap stars and daytime tv hosts who not only can get on with their jobs and lives but seemingly all have their hairs nicely cut to a good style or styled for the females.

I thought all barbers and hairdressers were closed in the uk ? How is that possible ? Oh they are famous and on telly so that’s ok. Those rules just apply to us plebs.

the rules state work from home if you can if you cannot work from home and it is essential for you to travel to do your work then you can do that.

there is nothing about you can only go to work if you do some kind of essential work (Is work in a hospital) .

both those companies are allowed to work.

the rules state work from home if you can if you cannot work from home and it is essential for you to travel to do your work then you can do that.

there is nothing about you can only go to work if you do some kind of essential work (Is work in a hospital) .

The hairdresser and blind measuring aren't. The rules on working inside houses are essential work / repairs only. That's why BT can't come into our house to finish the fibre broadband fitting,only the outside work up to the front door.

There is nothing wrong with builders working although they should be trying to be socially distant, likewise nothing wrong with the blind company doing what they are doing. We have had a blind company come into our house recently, all masked up and sanitised their hands before entering. We were socially distant and left the windows open for them. In and out in ten minutes. They are legally allowed to do what they have done and have had it confirmed to them. Hairdressers however aren't allowed to work, even mobile ones so that is bang out of order.

Surely it gets to a point when everyone has been offerd a vaccine,those that don't take it have to be allowed to take the risk of attending and hoping, maybe correctly, the immunity around them will protect them. As I said earlier, we never used to worry if those sat next to us at a game were putting themselves at risk from hospital or worse by catching flu having turned down a vaccination.

Yes, you're right, I alluded to it in an earlier post. The thing is, the flu jab is given during the period Oct - Jan, to ensure that everyone has some protection during the peak flu season (December - March). Currently we don't quite know what sort of protection those getting the second jab over the next few months will have come October, so it is possible that there'll need to be booster jabs before the end of the year as well as vaccinating the remainder of the population. The status we are at currently is that we are aiming to protect all over 50s upto the end of this year, but the virus will continue to circulate amongst the others - and indeed the vaccinated can probably still do so - (who will need hospital admission or die in much smaller numbers - sorry to be blunt). Then for next winter we need to try and vaccinate everyone. It's a big task, that. I think the problem is that the government need to be sure that everyone has had a good chance of getting vaccinated before changing the stance from mandatory to optional. And the situation overseas will be a big factor in that too.

Why then are we told to stay at home whilst the Bristol variant is being investigated unless absolutely necessary? These are not essential, that is my point

Yes, the weaker the guidelines, the more people make their own rules up. It's better to have stricter-than-needed rules but there'll always be some that question it. Maybe I'm just too compliant.

Why are people so worked up about a rumour that probably surfaced on twitter. FFS wait and see what is announced before flying off the handle. We are in a global pandemic and rules / laws have to change constantly to ensure we try and stay on top. We are now winning the fight, it won't be much longer before things are relaxed. It's as if we have been in a marathon uphill all the way and we are now in the last couple of miles and the road has leveled out and is slowly going downhill.

That's the part lockdown hardliners always seem to ignore. If the economy collapses there won't be a functioning NHS or anything else in the future.

exactly piers Morgan caused all this fucking confusion during the first lockdown.

yet it was twisted by piers Morgan who started to shout at people not doing essential work, which was totally wrong.

people still wrongly think you can only work if you are an essential worker which is crap.

and piers Morgan doesnt do essential work unless you think the worlds Covid response needs piers interviewing Gemma Collins on tv .
