Total cases today from the three nations with England to come is 1442

Last 5 weeks:

3056 v 2186 v 1960 v 1611 v 1442 Today

So, yes, still a fall but now really slowly as is inevitable when you get this low.
One outbreak can really distort the general picture when they start to get to low levels. This would go relatively unoticed a few weeks ago but now can cause a spike in figures that mask the general picture..

Official Scottish Prison Service (SPS) statistics showed the number of virus cases increased from 189 to 364.
The spike has been driven by a major outbreak at HMP Kilmarnock, where 247 positive cases have now been recorded.

Still dangerous considering where most infections are at the moment:
- Primary Schools
- Work
- Multigenerational households.
There's an obvious common denominator there.
Returning all kids to Primary School at the moment will double cases overnight
Primary Schools? Not according to Chris Whitty. Clearly stated that younger children (primary school age) transmit the virus least. Cases down at 10000 with schools at 50% attendance. Of course cases could go up and that’s why it’s schools first before anything else. Kids have missed long enough. No evidence to support doubling of cases overnight at all from primary schools.None.

It's still 10% down, same as 2 weeks ago (about 14% last week), you have to remember that as the number gets smaller, so does the 10%, so next week will be ~1300 if it continues at 10%.

Yes one of the factors that mean you find it harder to fall the lower you are. A problem boroughs like Trafford in GM now have.

Week to week in past 5 weeks they have scored 137 v 111 v 78 v 62 v 41 v ??? (it was 41 yesterday). Small things move you up or down now.

Why trends matter and the Weekly Pop Scores are the key measure to judge progress and I post them much more than I once did as they smooth out the blips across 7 days.

Another point I’ve not seen discussed is that each household should’ve been given stimulus cheques, like the States, boosting the economy. So much money has been wasted, I say wasted but really lining the pockets of friends, which the tax payer will suffer for. Best roadmap is Johnson out and Jeremy Hunt in.
Agree with this (Only the bit about stimulus cash)

i actually think all parents homeschooling (and working) should be given a tax break.

Question to teachers or partners of teachers .What are the teachers union views on get teachers vaccinated before they go back to work ? Surely they should be pushing the government hard for this to happen
I’m not a teacher but I do think the government should swerve away from this as much as they can.

There were unions in the US that did this and when they received the vaccine, they still refused to go back. Now certain states are stuck in a battle against teachers unions. Also a question opens up; if teachers should receive vaccine priority, what about those in supermarkets and manufacturing who have been working flat out from the start of the pandemic? Should they also receive priority, what about police? If a teacher who just so happens to be elderly or have an underlying health condition, it’s likely they are high up on the priority list already.

Merely my own view. I really don’t think we want to open up this pandora’s box while we’re trying to get deaths and hospitalisations down.

Any vunerable or elderly teacher will have had an opportunity for the vaccine by 8th March

Regional Summary:

Almost everywhere down - (East Midlands the exception - up 19 1187)

South East and East both below 1000 London only just above.

The three main north/midlands regions as close as they have been together in a while:

Yorkshire down 134 at 1157, West Midlands down 79 at 1263.

North West was the highest again but it was a very goof day here.

Fell by 424 to 1308 - the biggest drop of the day and making it closest it has been to several other regions.

This is actually the lowest NW total since 13 December.

About 800,000 less than last week unfortunately.
Think we are still hitting over 2 mill this week though which was the original target, if this week and next they drop to 2 mill and then get back to 3 mill / week in March and kick up from that through spring it's no major issue.

The vulnerable being vaccinated doesn’t stop cases amongst the under 60s where most of the spread occurs though. So until we are down that road, probably August ish then restrictions will be lifted with caution.
Not sure what you were expecting. Be thankfull for small victories like sitting in the garden or a park with friends and family.
Or be grateful those that need to can visit and hold the hands of loved ones in a care home.
We all want to get back to normal but also none of us want to end up ever needing a full lockdown to be needed again.
Sitting with someone in the garden after 11 months of restrictions and fuck ups back and forth isn’t a small victory to me
