Most places seem to ban them except for matches now, but for fish that size a micromesh net like that is fine. Great for kids too to see their entire catch at the end of the day.Did my usual fishing for bites hoping a big one would show up but it didn't. Still, had a bagful of small roach, dace and bleak.
A guy came up and we were talking and he said he hadn't seen a gudgeon out of the river for years. You want a gudgeon ? Who ya gonna call ? I produced one next bite !!
I know people don't like keepnets but I wanted to make sure I wasn't catching the same fish over and over !

There must be 40 odd fish in there mate! What were you doing? Maggot?
Well done though. Serious respect :-)

Sounds like a bloody fine day though. Did you spot anything interesting?Yes maggot. No skill involved just a high boredom threshold as your tip is going all the time. I always think "next cast something decent will turn up" and sometimes it does, like those chub I had and that roach but, most times, it doesn't.
Plus I spend a lot of time looking at the bird life so miss a lot of bites.

Long tail tits are my favourites. We get them coming to the coconut feeders. If the raptors were small probs Kestrel or Sparrow Hawk.Less than usual funnily enough despite it being the first time out for my new binoculars. I could hear a green woodpecker chuckling away but couldn't spot it. Then the bloke I was talking to (who claimed to bave seen a woodcock) said "there's a tree creeper" but I couldn't spot that either.
Saw a couple of small raptors too which I'm not very good at identifying so no idea what they were. Other than that, just the usual great fits, long-tailed tits etc.
Close - its Sandmere , I haven't fished Shakerley to be honest , the dog walkers etc put me off !!! are you local ?Brilliant mate, thats a serious pan you got there, water looks a bit like shakerley mere?
Nantwich, we walk around shakerley sometimes, but not with a dog. I got my local nantwich anglers card this week(after being told I cant buy one yet for the last month!). So hope to get out myself soon, weather and workload permitting of course.Close - its Sandmere , I haven't fished Shakerley to be honest , the dog walkers etc put me off !!! are you local ?
Good luck mate, you deserve it: )Wye salmon season starts Wednesday.

They can be quite fiesty.Currently enjoying my first blank of 2021. Sat here since 6 am watching a motionless quivertip. I did get one line bite but I think it was a Moor hen.
Lake of Menteith Pike of over 30lb say hi and when are you going to visit?I’ve been going out nearly every day for an hour or two with the lure rods, sometimes fishing 3-4 waters in the same session. ThIs has been because of the longer nights and also because I’m working hard learning to use my GoPro. It’s been utterly dire. Blank today. Yesterday I hooked and lost a Jack pike and got that on camera. So I’m making slow progress. I did land a pike last week but I think I posted about that: I cut my finger badly on its teeth as it went in a death roll.
This time of year is rock hard and winter high pressure like we have now is usually really difficult. However the fish, particularly the predators as they are getting ready to spawn, are at their biggest so I’m going to keep plugging away even though endlessly chucking lures is boring me at the moment. Deadbaits in the morning I think. I have to keep telling myself that these long barren periods often precede a special fish. And I’ve never had a really big pike.
