Coronavirus (2021) thread

Brother caught in middle of Feb had no symptoms thankfully and nobody else in the house hold caught it and we had all been in close proximity of him, I even accidently drank out of his can of larger when we had a drink and thought I better get myself tested so I did a week later and it came back negative.

The amount of people who think the vote is a vote to extend the lockdown rather than a vote to extend the lockdown laws is off the scale. Granted, some are naively falling for it in good faith but it's also brought all the tin foil hat wearing fuckwits out of the woodwork again who are busy spreading their lies and misinformation. I'm going to take great delight in ramming their shitty conspiracies back down their throats in the summer when we're all back out on the piss again. Sure, foreign holidays will probably be off the agenda for now which makes sense for both the UK and our European friends until they get up to speed on vaccinations, but the UK will be back to relative normality and it'll be interesting to see what new shite the conspiracy theorists will come out with then.
Might be worth asking for a heads up on the next one so we're all prepared.
I'm stumped for the next big thing if I'm honest, but for the ones with the conspiracy agendas (whether they actually believe them or not) their Amazon book sales will be off the scale this year.

Well all have our hobbies and interests I suppose, but I think this year exposed how these thoughts can be dangerous and drive another wedge between people.

Had a cold recently....I thought (after the news about cold booting out Covid) this would help my own long Covid...but nope sadly.

all i've seen on social media are the same people more interested in jetting off for a summer holiday moaning about being banned from leaving the UK.

These can and should be very beneficial for those of us in the UK. Health and business wise.

I don't think we should normalise making people craving a very normal thing (a holiday) as the villains. It's nonsense. They've get every right to be upset. We're all missing living. It doesn't make them selfish.

Just had my first Jab, ran like clockwork so well done to all volunteers and professionals concerned.
Sunday I had mine. Woke up yesterday feeling a bit fatigued, but by 4pm I was flat out on the sofa. Not asleep, but completely zoned out. Ached to walk around and my arm felt like it had been battered. All fine today.

I wasn't calling them selfish.

I was supposed to go Amsterdam last year with a friend, and had it deferred until June this year,

No point in going over if were just going to keep going back to square one every 5/6 months.

The ones on social media (mine in particular) are the ones who have been out all through lockdown partying at peoples houses, going abroad last summer catching covid, continuing with what they want again after being ok.

If we have the weather like we did last year during lockdown 1, UK holidays will become so much more appealing

The implication seemed pretty clear to me, but fair enough if you didn't mean it that way. The UK is great, but a glorious getaway it is not. I'm sick of this place right now. Last place I want to be is in the UK. I won't go abroad cos its not worth the hassle, but I certainly understand why many are craving it. I get your point re the square one stuff, but as always, two contrasting things can be right at the same time. They've got every right to moan about if they want, cos they're not wrong are they?

AZ again under fire for the manner in which they've presented their data, this time on their announcement yesterday morning.

People are not selfish for wanting to do things. Doing them - when in contravention of the rules - is selfish however.

We are all making huge sacrifices so that as a whole, we can get out of this mess sooner rather than later and with the minimum numbers of deaths. People who ignore the rules and who therefore by their actions, increase levels of infection, prolong how long we all have to put up with restrictions, and also who contribute to higher numbers of deaths? If that is not selfish, I do not know what is.

in today's cases, there were 1,914 LFD tests positive reported from Sunday 21st in England, by far the largest amount from that source yet. Which means there'll either be a bit of a cases increase this week or the PCR positives are going to crash and the line stay flat. I think the former. fair warning folks, probably a case increase by specimen date (which we wont know until next week probably!!).

so, an interesting total Cases number yesterday, Monday 22nd (5,342). This number had 1,914 Lateral Flow positives in it from Sunday 21st, an unusually high % of the total from the day before (for date of specimen within day reported).

so, will cases drop again today should that LFD contribution come down again to it's previous level of about 700? or will we continue to see a plateau of ~5,500 cases? i reckon the former, i reckon a drop on cases by date reported (today) by ~1,000 IF the LFD returns to 2 week average. If it doesn't, there'll be a bit of covid in schools that'll want addressing.

No exactly they can moan.

But i suppose if the plan is set out more clearly than we may have less moaning about it.

We are giving up something atm.

I know you may not like UK for holidaying but there are so many places we can visit here that are beautiful

But they're not ignoring the rules, so that's a weird leap! Talking about wanting a holiday on facebook isn't ignoring the rules is it? You're creating an entirely different scenario. Why on earth are you doing that? I'm not sure you've even realised you've done it, but either way it's totally unfair and proves entirely what I was saying. We're painting people as villains, and now in your eyes they're alongside the rule breakers just for even thinking about going on holiday!

Mate i've holidayed in just about every corner of the UK. I love the place for trips, but right now I'd rather be anywhere else, for very obvious reasons.

Well said, who is anyone to judge what upsets someone else? Everyone is different and has different motivations in life. Some people would have loved 365 furloughed, for others its an absolute nightmare not having any kind of control about your job. Doesn't make anyone a better person.
