Political relations between UK-EU

when published the Q1 trade figures are going to need explanations and invention of epic proportions - I know 11 years on the state of the economy is the fault of the last Labour Govt but will "teething problems" be acceptable as an excuse for that length of time?

Explanations like we’re in a pandemic so don’t have any comparable data? You simply can’t put and credence on Q1 numbers given the context, we already know Q1 was a shit show. We also already know Q2 trade with EU will be impacted by continuing slow vaccine rollout there and potentially further restrictions there, Q3 and Q4 we may start to see the EU beginning to recover economically.

But still lots can go wrong for all of us in the next few weeks let alone few months. Assuming it doesn’t we won’t really be able to get a proper barometer of brexit impact until 2022.

its already a major mess with nothing more than added costs for the average person... have you tried buying anything off eBay /abroad recently ?

When you say abroad do you mean from the EU?

It’s a big world out there, I’ve just brought a gazebo/pergola off Alibaba, direct from the manufacturer in China, made to my exact measurements for 40% of what they wanted to charge from an EU based supplier and it wouldn’t have been custom made to the size I wanted. That’s 60% less all in delivered DDU so I have to pay customs tax ...but I’d have to pay that either way (if getting from anywhere outside UK) so I’m happy.

I do know what you mean on EU sellers though. Plenty refuse to send here now or costs get lively, some car parts I can only get from EU and that can be a bit of a nightmare but I hope it’ll sort out soon else I’ll just have to use non-OEM parts which will be a bit annoying but nothing more

No one is winning when we can’t get what we want and they can’t sell what they’ve got (particularly the lower value things that are just uneconomical to export). I do hope they figure some of this out soon for everyones benefit.

Alongside some of the Tory rhetoric about global Britain, are we also getting a shift in their claim that we were leaving the EU but not leaving Europe? I get the impression that global Britain is transforming into Britain as a nationalist state of nowhere.

Racist Government produces a report that confirms that there is no evidence of *checks notes* institutional racism in the country.

Gaslighting at its peak.

Mr Tayto was designed by a neighbour of mine when we were growing up. Still know his son.
Mr. Tayto has a black hat and stripey trousers. I can’t accept anything else.
Red hat? Imposter!
Stripey trousers eh? Proddy bastard. Next they'll be making Tayto soup.

oh dear

What a daft article saying Britain has lost it’s ability to control its own destiny and its primary premise of size has nothing to do with it.

Exhibit A. Size. Haven’t the EU/US only just recently agreed a ceasefire in their own long running retaliatory tariff war? A war we were forced to wage irrespective of Britain’s own views?

Exhibit B. Destiny. At least we have the option to back down on taxing big tech (although I don’t think we should), isn’t that controlling our own destiny?

Bias journalism by someone with an axe to grind to feed the masses who have the same axe to grind.

I think being coerced into doing something by a bigger country is peak ‘controlling our own destiny’.

Your last sentence sums up pre and post brexit UK perfectly. I wonder how leave won..
