You either base your policies on evidence based science or you don't. As such India should be on the red list based on evidence, but it isn't.
Why?

Given the numbers above bit of a surprise that England cases are well up.

UK total 2963 today. So 2550 of those from England.

!. 67 Million tests apparently. Way up on recently.

4 All settings deaths as expected.

There will be a lot of false positives in there though, which doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of things, unless ‘case’ numbers are being used to inform decision making.

Over here we're down from over 17000 cases 6 weeks ago to under a thousand today (lowest since Sept). Vaccinations picking up too and they're expecting to have all over 40s jabbed by the end of June.

The government will probably relax the restrictions too quickly and balls it all up (based on recent experience) but good news for now.

POSITIVE Lateral Flow positives backed up by NEGATIVE PCR test are removed from the case lists going forward (this change was made over Easter). They slso told people to get a PCR test again if they got a positive LFT test.

I meant there will be a lot of false positive PCR tests in there, which becomes increasingly important as prevalence falls.

Greater Manchester Cases

183 cases today - up 58 on yesterday slightly down as a % of the NW which rose by 112 today.

This is down 35 week to week from 218. And means every GM total in the past 7 days has been pretty consistent and under 200 for the first time in six months:- 171 - 175 - 173 - 156 - 136 - 125 - 183.

Manchester top scores on 57 - most in a while and up 34 on day but down 3 week to week.

Bolton stays at 20 but up 10 on last week. Still struggling a bit.

Rochdale on 19 - up 10 in the day and 2 wk to wk.

Wigan at 18 is up 9 on the day but well down on the week from 34.

Bury with its highest score in a while on 16 up 13 on the day and 9 from last week

Stockport - too - up 3 to 15 on the day but down 4 week to week. So not hurting the pop score.

Salford on 14 up 3 on the day but down 7 on last wk.

Oldham down 3 to 11 which is down 10 on last week.

Just the two T's in single figures today:

Tameside on 7 down 13 on the day and 8 from last week. Good day here.

Trafford is best score today on 6 - up 2 on the day but down 8 wk to wk. Also captures the weekly cases title by one from Bury. With Stockport, Tameside and Salford now not far behind either - just 17 between these 5.

Weekly cases:-

Trafford 61, Bury 62, Stockport 72, Tameside 74, Salford 78, Rochdale 99, Wigan 109, Oldham 136, Bolton 156, Manchester 277.

Czech Republic.
Good news.
Czechia has been top of the bad news pile for a while with 2,660 deaths per million - second only to Gibraltar in death.
(The UK is 1,867 desths/million)

GM Weekly Pop Data after today:~

Borough / Pop Today / 7 days ago / up or down wk to wk/ Testing is % of local population who have tested positive for Covid over past year.

As ever with Pop going up is bad, going down good - the higher the number the better or worse depending on direction moving. The Pop is total cases in past week versus 100,000 POPulation to even out the comparison versus size and expected cases based on numbers living there.

Oldham 57 / 49 UP 8 Testing positive 9.7%

Bolton 54 / 32 / UP 22 Testing positive 9.0%

Manchester 50 / 46/ UP 4 Testing positive 9.6%

Rochdale 45 / 45 / LEVEL Testing positive 9.5%

Tameside 35 / 19 UP 16 Testing positive 8.0%

Wigan 33 / 32 / UP 1 Testing positive 8.8%

Bury 33 / 13 / UP 20 Testing positive 9.0%

Salford 30 / 27 / UP 3 Testing positive 8.9%

Trafford 25 / 19 / UP 6 Testing positive 6.9%

Stockport 25 / 24 / UP 1 Testing positive 7.1%

Stockport cling on to top spot but Trafford level with them.

But nobody really struggling. These are really excellent low scores for GM.

I know. Things looking much better here. The worry is that the govt. will try and relax things too quickly. I can understand the temptation as we've been under restrictions for 5 months or more now but if they could hold off another month or two, we could hopefully be well over the worst.

HOSPITAL DATA

Summary:

This data is for three days Sat/Sun/Today with the usual ups and down over the weekend.

In England there was a big fall on Saturday (109) followed by another fall (44 ) on Sunday and then a rise (41) today. This pattern is common week to week but means a good fall over the weekend of 112.

For comparison last weekend the three days were fall of (131) Saturday, fall of (94) on Sunday and a rise of just (12) on the Monday so in total a 213 fall over the weekend.

As you can see this is the same pattern but the numbers are significantly less this week than last. Though pro rata less dramatically than it seems as there were about 22% fewer patients in this week versus last week so some fall was inevitable even staying at the same % drop.

Ventilators followed the same pattern of fall fall, rise on Monday but only dropped by 7 across the weekend. Last week that fall was 40 so a much more obvious slowing down here. UK total fell to just over 300. With England under that at 291.

There were also small falls in the other nations across the UK and we just missed going below 2000 Covid patients there as well as England. Now just 2011.

In the England regions the North West did well with a good 10% fall Friday to Monday in both patients and ventilators.

UK total:

Patients down to 2011 - it was 39, 248 at the peak on 18 Jan - (fall of 37, 237 in 91 days) :- lowest since 24 September

Ventilators down to 321 it was 4077 at the peak on 24 Jan - (fall of 3756 in 85 days) : lowest since 30 September

England only:-

ADMISSIONS
:-

135 Covid admissions (16 April) following 148, 127. 156, 153, 173, 175, 151 in the week before.

Patients down by 112 to 1732 v 2108 last week :- lowest since 26 September

Peak was 34, 336 on 18 Jan (fall 32, 604 in 91 days)
