It just seem like a negotiation, there is likely to be a hybrid compromise between the ESL and the new UCL.

You don't start a negotiation by saying you want to stay.

The other version is the ESL expanding to take in any up and coming club expanding like the PDC did and drain the life blood out of all else.

The Gov can't stop it as thy will end up being based in Switzerland, Luxembourg or the UAE.

(Bloomberg) -- UEFA is discussing a 6b-euro financing proposal from U.K.-based asset manager Centricus, as the soccer body seeks to stop a new breakaway “Super League,” people with knowledge of the matter said.

  • Top UEFA officials have been discussing the potential financing package with Centricus, which would help bankroll an overhaul of its flagship soccer tournament, the people said, asking not to be identified because the information is private
  • Negotiations are ongoing and there’s no certainty UEFA and Centricus will reach an agreement, the people said
  • A spokesperson for UEFA didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment, while a representative for Centricus declined to comment

True but far too late, we have shot our load, the damage is done and the same for all 14 clubs, Bayern are the clever ones, waiting for the mess to settle and take it from there.
Why is it too late. SOme sort of financial penalty?

The reports suggest City joined for pragmatic purposes. It seems an impossibility to me so exit, and do it quickly. I am still hoping that there is a way out here that leaves me with a football club I can support.

Can't wait to see him on the gravy train commentating on games being show on Amazon. Happy to throw money into his own team that means they beat everyone around them and doesn't allow them to compete then goes crying to the masses when it happens elsewhere. Hypocrite.
I'm beginning to think this is a ploy by Sky. All day "pundits" on Sky have been saying how bad this is for everyone involved in football.

however I absolutely guarantee if Sky were behind this and were bidding for the TV rights they would be saying the exact opposite.

They are towing the Sky line as Sky are shitting themselves because if this happens and I think it will they would lose millions in TV subscriptions and the Billions they spent on TV rights will be for fuck all. Make no mistake they'll be part of this meeting of the premier league teams tomorrow trying to convince them to let the 6 clubs stay in the league and to come to some kind of agreement with them.

Or am I being too cynical?

In the next five to ten years the Rags are going to release a statement to say they've assessed the costs of renovating the swamp, found it makes no economic sense and so, inspired by their Italian founder ESL members, they are delighted to announce they have agreed to ground share with their English founder partner, Manchester City and I WILL BE FUCKING SICK.

This is going to collapse. An error of judgment I feel. UEFA will ban City from this seasons Champions League. Indeed if I were them I'd cancel all revenue we've earned to date.

If I were City I would move very quickly to exit from this. We've probably got 48 hours to get out.
Too late.
All clubs involved, including City, have resigned from the ECA.

You have lost the plot.

LOL collateral damage , we have made our bed, now take the consequences.

We want the cash on offer, that's all you need to know, cash is king, don't forget our owner sold a part of this club to one of the largest investment funds in the world, they and him were well aware what was going down.

I think Pep is a man of the people, he truly believes that football is all about the fans and I don't think he'd be afraid to say what he thinks

I'm sure he will be totally up to speed with all this so his press conference tomorrow will be very very interesting

If he doesn't criticize the plans, what does that say? I'm hoping it would suggest that there's details we don't know about which would make things seem a bit better if we did know

If he does come out and slams the plans, effectively also slamming his employer, where does that leave him? In an untenable position?
I'd be more interested to hear what the scrote at the swamp and kloppy have to say, after all its their paymasters driving this

With the income the SL would generate, tickets wouldn’t even account for 8% of revenue. I’m sure they could make tickets £10 and fill the place up.
So, yet again, the fans would be used as commodity. Just sweeteners handed to be part of the scenery, to create atmosphere because that's one thing the clubs can't achieve on their own!!!

But you know as well as I do that there is no fucking chance ticket prices will drop.

is this reversible then? I guess it would be before a ball is kicked. Of course will be a lot of political fall out.

I can not see how this can be executed which means that the architects are fools. It also will probably end City fans honeymoon with the owner for good.

City need to back out and start talking and explaining.

You can start a negotiating by saying you want to stay - 'we really love the CL and would love to continue taking part but UEFA are making it impossible with their inflexibility etc. etc.' so that the other side can see you do actually want to negotiate. Instead we seem to have adopted the scorched earth tactic such that, whatever happens, someone will be seen to have won, and someone to have lost.

In ESL, we are Spurs and Spurs are Burnley.
Disagree, I think we’re the best team in the competition at its inception (now).

In a couple of years however - once RM, the rags, scousers, Juve and Arse have rigged it so they get the lions share of the money for whatever reasons they invent; things will be different.
