It’s two places for all of Europe based on a 5 year European coefficient and isn’t limited to any team in the G14. It could work for Leicester or RB Leipzig or Seville.
Absolutely. I'd rather those 2 places didn't exist but it's a long, long way from the closed shop of the ESL.

I'm more bothered about the fact they've squeezed yet more meaningless "group" games into the schedule.

I have to say I'm shocked at how many posters are bending over backwards to act as apologists for the club. The club behaved in the most deplorable way and we need to accept that. It doesn't reflect badly on the fans, the players or the manager but the club fucked up and we can't defend that.
There is a big distinction between Manchester City the team and Manchester City the club as of today. I'm not sure I can ever "love the club" again but we can always love our team.

Dubai. Look at the current coefficient standings. Leicester are light years behind the red shirted brigade and unless the points allocation calculator is changed will never catch them.

No, I posted it to suggest a scenario you probably wouldn’t back the club on.

You were happy to back the club on this shit idea, whereas the vast majority of fans weren’t.

It doesn’t make you a bigger blue. It makes you a blind disciple.
Bigger Blue? Where did I say it makes me that? That's a weird thing to say.

Khaldoon in May 2019:

“I will not accept for this club to be used as a diversionary tactic for poor investment decisions by other clubs”

Yet by signing up for what was in essence nothing more than a guaranteed income stream/bailout for our debt riddled, poorly managed enemies, that is precisely what he did. I don't think it’s unreasonable for the fans to expect him to explain himself in that context

Yeah but they manoeuvred themselves into even more important roles and positions with the UEFA conference elections at the weekend
That's true, to be honest I'm not too concerned about PSG but it's always felt like Bayern pretty much ran UEFA already along with the people who lost out yesterday.
I think that for us Tebas getting involved will be a bigger issue but as he's always lumped us in with PSG during his episodic ramblings he may calm down a bit now he's working with them rather than just on behalf of Real Madrid and Barcelona.
I still think we're more likely to be able to build a better working relationship with UEFA now than we were last week. More through luck than any Macchiavellian plans though.

well said. Too many posters on here clutching at straws and trying to defend the club. Our owners have behaved disgracefully

I thought that statement about City from Cerafin came out a bit sharpish, not sure that was off the cuff. Perhaps wheels had been put in motion earlier than being quoted
I don’t think there’s any perhaps about it. They will have been talking all day and perhaps even the prior day. I reckon even at Ceferin’s public address yesterday morning he will have known City are giving serious thought to coming out of it. He then just offered the olive branch publicly that he will have already offered privately. I hope there is something in it for City. The ultimate thing would be a seat at the table but I don’t know how realistic that is.

I’m hoping that the lunacy of the Perez interview, in which he personally ridiculed Tebas and his level of influence, will put Madrid in his crosshairs at least in the short term

There is no such thing as winning silverware "organically"
That is just cartel bullshit speak to excuse themselves as part of the problem.
Some football related words, or phrases, should be outright banned!!
There is. If the takeover hadn't happened, that team of 2008 would have carried on winning nothing, most likely the odd drop in division and our only success getting back to the PL.

The take over did happen though, and a rather huge amount of money has been pumped into the club to transform it from what it was, to what you see now - pretty much unrecognisable from the bottom up. So no, we wouldn't be where we are organically. Barnes, amongst some other shite he said, had it right earlier. If the game is to attract these billionaire owners and investment, you can't have it both ways.

Yeah that direct plea to the English clubs was pretty obviously aimed straight at us and maybe Chelsea

Exactly the same, try to refrain in front of Mrs H but when the match is on I do let the odd expletive slip. I never swore in front of my Mum in 59 years. My Dad tells the story of when I was four years old I asked what the two fingered salute meant, he told me it was not good but I continued to ask. In the end he said "I'll tell you but you must never use these words". He said it means "fuck off"

Later that evening he said "time for bed Mark"

I replied ""Fuck off Dad"

I don't remember it but my Dad says him and my mum absolutely pissed their sides laughing.
That actually reminds me of a story that my Mum told me.
One evening in the early 1950`s (Mum said I was only about 4 years of age) and I went to the local grocers with her.
As we were just leaving the owner said "Goodnight Alan " and by all accounts without even batting an eyelid I retorted "Goodnight you old buggers" !!!!
Mum said she scarpered quickly and never went back to the shop for months.
By all accounts the owner and the customers laughed like hell after we`d gone.

Agree it’s nowhere near the ESL proposal but the UEFA reforms are essentially attempts at appeasement. If the breakaway clubs are finally faced down over ESL plans then surely the endless shadow of the break away threats goes away for a very long time (or am I being naive?). If it has gone away then it is an opportunity to reform the tournaments around other criteria than purely maximising revenue and keeping certain clubs happy. But again that’s probably me being naive.
There are now three years to debate and reform those UEFA changes to the CL. With the threat of a breakaway now neutered, it may be that something more acceptable to all is in place by 2024

In the 9 years since I moved from Manchester I’ve not missed any game home or away (came close once at Notts County - I think - but for the fan that streamed it live on periscope) even at unpalatable hours but I genuinely don’t reckon I’ll be watching all ten of the group games when the revamp kicks in (should we qualify). The last 2 or 3 are likely to be completely meaningless.

Like I said, I don't want those 2 "historic" places being awarded and hope they're removed. I think it's a sham and goes against everything we've all been saying for the last 2 days. BUT i've seen people on here say things like the new CL is basically just as much of a closed shop as the ESL, and that's patently nonsense.

Yeah, me too. It looks like they're all falling out with each other all over the place while Perez is doing his best to take the "Biggest Mouth Frothing Basket Case Spaniard of the Year Award" off Tebas.
This whole situation has just been bizarre in so many ways.

Honestly just so relieved that this isn't going ahead. And that we were the first to back down. It has still tainted my opinion of our owners, who I admired so much for all these years in footballing terms.

Anyone got a link for full Pep comment's on this?

Ceferin's statement yesterday morning was when I fully started to believe we were backing out, I mentioned it being an olive branch. I was expecting a lot sterner words from him but he was speaking as though he'd already spoken to someone at the club.
