Guitar Thread

Yes I can see that but life moves on and I’d much rather be a punter in the pub than suffer the ball ache of lugging all my gear about, setting up, playing, taking it all back down and generally being sober amongst a load of pissed up punters :)
Oh no I can agree on that bit if you no longer fancy it - I meant purely from a picking them up and playing them perspective..........

Fair enough not missing the graft of pub gigs, but it's a shame to give up completely. There are some very wealthy guitarists that haven't got any further than that pentatonic scale mate ;-)

If money wasn't a factor, would you end up with a D45 or the like or are they literally no better (granted you may be paying thousands for that very small edge of any)?

I'd love to proclaim myself as a 'mix' but I'm pretty much a decent strummer (still like playing my Neil Young at present) - although the last day or so I have tried picking up Fleetwood Mac never going back (I'm shite at finger picking)..........
I play mainly fingerstyle these days and prefer the smaller bodied and slightly wider necked guitars. Martins dreadnought are monsters and I’d love a D28, never mind a D45. That said, for just less than £10k the world is your oyster and you can have just about anything you want. Based on my own personal taste the D45, whilst fantastic, wouldn’t not be my dream guitar, although it might be yours? You need to go and try one.

My son bought the first guitar - same green colour and it looks great. Have you had any problems with it staying in tune ? It’s driving him mad and he‘s thinking of selling it.
The Bigby will be the problem with keeping it in tune. ..they're a bollix....

Has he been playing long?....if he's fairly new to it, he needs to make sure he is stretching new strings enough too

I have a Ibanez acoustic, Hofner verythin 6 string electric and an Eastwood 12 string electric. They’re all gathering dust, sadly. Lost all interest in playing as I have kind of hit the wall with regards to my ability. I have played in a band since I was at school but tbh I was never that good. All my lead guitar breaks are based around the pentatonic scale and I just can’t be arsed progressing beyond it. It’s served me ok for 30 odd years winging it in pubs and half the time (most of the time) the punters don’t hear my mistakes. COVID has killed it stone dead really for me. Not missed playing one bit and wouldn’t bother me if I don’t play ever again. I’m 53 now and I’ve had my day playing at being a rock star. Enjoyed it though, usually.
I'm the same mate for the last 14 months no gigs.
The band I was in has given up and recently I've had two offers to join other bands but turned them down.
I just can't be bothered with the practising midweek lugging gear about, setting up and playing for 4 hours for peanuts.
There's hardly any gigs anymore since covid and to be honest I've lost interest in playing in a band.
Covid has finished it, leave it to the younger generation I think.

Always waned to learn how to play but never got round to it:(
Just buy a cheap decent acoustic and learn off YouTube.
My kids got me this one for xmas two year ago and I love it. so cheap too.
Although this would be better for a beginner: https://www.gear4music.com/Guitar-a...c-Guitar-by-Gear4music-and-Accessory-Pack/8I8

Yeah, forgot about the practising- what a ball ache that is! We used to go to a place in Bury but still had to take my own amp. It’s £5 each and usually by the time a gig comes around you’ve spent your gig money on practise sessions!
Like I say though, I have enjoyed it and we have had some belting gigs over the years and have entertained thousands of people so mustn’t grumble.

I feel a @Bill Walker and @JOGAMIGMOG remote super group coming on............. ;-)

They really are cheap as chips - you would pretty much get your money back flogging then on eBay or the like if you didn't stick with it...........

Not bought one yet mate other things keep getting in the way. Not heard any problems like that though.

I have a Faith Naked acoustic...lovely tone...had some problems staying in tune but resolved with a lighter gauge string. I noodle blues and Spanish / classical on this. Also have a Gibson SG standard in red....rarely out of its sumptuous pink fur lined case these days.

It’s definitely a younger person’s game with all the lugging etc When I was young it didn’t bother me. More energy I suppose. But if I was asked now at 56 I would turn it down. Done my bit and enjoyed it. But I still go and watch plenty of local bands with 50 plus people playing and they seem to love it.

Cheers for the response. Yes he’s been playing for a number of years- he barely uses the Bigsby and we’ve tried different gauges of string with no success. Might be worth taking it to a Guitar Tech for a quote.
