7 all settings deaths

2874 cases - creeping upwards

was 2657 last week and 2613 wk before

1, 163, 678 pillar 1 & 2 tests today - up around 443, 000 on yesterday.

managed to scrape some data up to about May 18th for some key NHS Trust areas around Lancs. I think we know this from the news anyway but Bolton hospital cases on the way up. East Lancs (Bunrley/Blackburn etc) admitting at a similar rate actually, according to that, but total cases staying steady so they must be kicking em out just as fast (whether that's older cases or not i dont know)

The fast majority of vulnerable and elderly people have been double Vaccinated, but the use of the term 3rd wave is coming is going to scare a lot of people that have isolated and followed the rules, I know my mum who's 90 is scared stiff of leaving the house
Just read a article that said a further 3 deaths that makes the death toll surge to 129000, FFS still 3 to many but talk about scaremongering

Bolton is up huge today - to 280 cases. Up from 183.

It was 189 last Thursday. Which was before now the highest.

Almost 10% of all the cases in the UK today are in Bolton.

2874 UK cases reported.

280 in Bolton (!) (!!)

Even given all the caveats about surge testing, local issues etc. it seems near certain that this is driven by the variant, its just too large a spike, rising too fast to be explained any other way. Unless there's something weird about reporting today (hopefully there is...)

A nationwide wave then seems very likely at this point, and June 21st further relaxation unlikely. The good news is that hospitalisations still don't look to be following remotely in proportion. Fingers crossed.

Just for reference, hospital situation with Bolton.

Edit - this was up until Tuesday. It's now 30.

Unsurprisingly given the Bolton numbers North West is the highest by the largest margin in a long time.

686 cases - up 227 in one day. And 108 up on last week.

As I said on the previous page 10% of all cases in the UK today are in Bolton.

Going to be a lot of pissed off people if 21st June put back..feel for the younger generation

Worrying numbers from Greater Manchester today.

Unless you live in Stockport.

I find that hopeful - because if you recall I posted a couple of days ago some % numbers for GM boroughs of how many had been vaccinated and the % in Stockport was very high. I did not check every borough but it was easily the most of those I did.

If this variant is taking root in Greater Manchester then it would be encouraging to see the most vaccinated boroughs doing the best.

Stockport today has just 6 of the 481 cases in Greater Manchester. The only good news on a day with pretty large numbers elsewhere,

Bury - who I warned the other day was starting to look like a problem as it not only has proximity to Bolton but was at very low levels of 3 or 4 cases 2 weeks ago - best in GM - so its spike was quickly evident

Today it shot up to 28 cases - more than double yesterday and triple last week.

Manchester also up on 77 - its highest in some time.

Wigan - also bordering Bolton - up on 23.

And Trafford still higher than it should be.

Even Tameside was on 13.

Stockport the only single figure number today. Indeed the gap to Trafford in overall Pop Score has been falling steeply from 200 a month ago. Today it is down to 128.

IF - and it is a big if obviously - Stockport stays low then it would look like the high vaccination level there versus other boroughs might be a factor. Which would be very encouraging news for everyone.

Also note that those 481 Greater Manchester cases today come from a total of 686 in the whole North West.

Over 70% of the total cases. Well over what it should be getting. Obviously largely because of Bolton but other areas are starting to tick up too.

GM had nearly 17% of the total cases in the entire UK. That is very high.

it is and Bolton is in greater Manchester. anyone else see what is coming next (again) ???

in more positive news over 600k jabs administered

5,500 first doses (Scotland). Draw your own conclusions, but that 45-64 group and even more so the one below, numbers will continue to grow until we start getting first doses in arms. I'm going to bang the astrazeneca rethink drum pretty relentlessly it seems.

According to the surge data on the gov.uk web-site the vast majority of the voc cases were within one district of Bolton. 62 cases in Bolton 4, 0 cases in Bolton 3. I don't know what is meant by Bolton 4. But the data is over a week old.
